I wanted a simpler Brave alternative, and this new browser surprised me

I’ve been using Brave for a while now, and it does exactly what it promises. The privacy defaults are solid, the ad blocking works, and the Chromium foundation means it runs right. However, I found myself curious whether something even leaner existed, a browser that covered the same privacy ground without accumulating quite so many features around it. Brave has grown into a fairly full-featured platform, which is great if you want that, but I wanted to find out what the experience felt like closer to the essentials. That curiosity eventually led me to Helium, an open-source browser built by a two-person team with a clear and almost stubborn philosophy: do less, but do it right. I wasn’t expecting it to hold up for more than a few days of testing. A few weeks later, it’s still my main browser. Those Viral Posts About the Brave Kidnapped Dogs Escaping and Finding Their Homes Together Are Fake, You Gullible Buffoons

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech In Disney’s beloved 1993 family film, “Homeward Bound,” a ragtag group of two dogs and a cat embark on a daring quest through the wildness of the Sierra Nevada mountains to return to their owners. The movie was a major success, tugging at the heartstrings of pet owners everywhere. Now, viral video footage of a group of dogs stranded on the side of a busy roadway in China has drawn plenty of comparisons to the story, showing a reminiscent group of household critters huddling together. It didn’t take long for imaginations to run wild. “Seven stolen dogs broke free from thieves working for a dog meat shop and trekked [ten miles] home together, led by a Corgi,” one X account claimed, tapping into racist stereotypes. “Across highways and fields, moving as a team, these dogs refused to be separated from their humans.” Seven dogs stolen from their owners have gone viral after escaping from an illegal transport truck …

‘Incredibly brave’ man traps armed robber inside shop he tried to raid | News UK Video News

Police have paid tribute to the bravery of a shop worker who was assaulted and threatened with a large knife by an armed robber, but managed to trap him so he could be arrested. Jordan Peebles, 32, pulled out a kitchen knife as he robbed an off-licence in Coventry on Christmas Eve. But as he filled his bag with goods the shop worker he had assaulted ran outside and lowered the shutters. Image: Peebles pleaded guilty to robbery at Warwick Crown Court last week. Reflections on the ‘Brave New World’ of Farming

Reflections on the ‘Brave New World’ of Farming

Farmers across the West are socioeconomically not in a good place right now. Many are leaving the profession, which used to be a vocation, due to big payoffs by the EU and other such wealthy bloated Net-Zero globalists encouraging them to sell the land. There is also the allure of AI and Hi-Tech machinery, which I’ll come to later. I used to work as an agricultural correspondent and editor of a farming magazine some 20 years ago and things were financially bad back then for farmers throughout the West but things are now a lot worse. The war on farming in the past was less obvious, but it goes back a long time to late-1950s/early ’60s, when new expensive machinery led to bigger intense farming and less farm employees, amongst other labour-led factors. With AI technologies, some farms are already hosting robotic ‘workers’ toiling away on the land, from dusk to dawn. These tend to the livestock’s needs, but there are also plans to have them watch over crops, while other agri-robots hoe weeds and …

Hear Aldous Huxley Read Brave New World. Plus 84 Classic Radio Dramas from CBS Radio Workshop (1956-57)

We seem to be living through yet another major moment for podcasting. Over the past two decades, the medium has gone from niche experiment to mainstream habit, becoming a regular part of how we learn, entertain ourselves, and pass the time. The popularity of podcasts—in an age of ubiquitous screens and perpetual distractions—speaks to something deep within us. Oral storytelling, as old as human speech, never really disappears. The medium evolves, platforms shift, distribution changes—but the basic appeal remains constant. But the differences between this golden age of podcasting and the golden age of radio are still significant. Where the podcast is often off-the-cuff, and often very intimate and personal—sometimes seen as “too personal”—radio programs were almost always carefully scripted and featured professional talent. Even those programs with man-on-the street features or interviews with ordinary folks were carefully orchestrated and mediated by producers, actors, and presenters. And the business of scoring music and sound effects for radio programs was a very serious one indeed. All of these formalities—in addition to the limited frequency range of …

As Outlander Ends, Caitríona Balfe Enters a Brave New World—One She’s Long Been Building For Herself

Heughan and Balfe as Jamie and Claire on season eight of Outlander in 2026.Robert Wilson Now that the horny antics of Heated Rivalry are sweeping the globe, what would Balfe tell breakout stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams about navigating their newfound fame? “I haven’t seen Heated Rivalry yet,” she admits. “But it seems that phenomenon far eclipses our show. You got to just be grateful for the experience,” Balfe continues, adding with a laugh: “And make sure that you send messages to your parents not to watch certain episodes.” And a word of warning from one half of TV’s most beloved onscreen couples to another: know when to log off. “The fans have been beyond generous, sending so much love towards us, and initiatives we’ve supported. That has far eclipsed the negativity,” says Balfe. But she’s also learned the value in staying offline. “In the beginning, we were all so much more active on social media, or at least I used to be back in the day before it became a cesspool,” she says. …

Resist the panicky zeitgeist and be brave curriculum makers

Resist the panicky zeitgeist and be brave curriculum makers

We can shape the curriculum to broaden horizons and ensure young people find work or training, but it takes time and courage, says Carolyn Roberts How do leaders think when they make choices? Could they be helped to resist the panicky zeitgeist and think about what’s best for children in the longer term? The Framework for Ethical Leadership in Education was designed to encourage us all to understand our responsibilities as public servants, so it starts with the seven values of the principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.  School leaders were never meant to be robots, but role models for the young. How they behave is as important as what they do. Leadership is rooted in personal characteristics and these are the virtues of the framework: trust, wisdom, kindness, justice, service, courage and optimism. Let’s become curriculum makers We hold trust for children when we think hard. How can we take advantage of reduced prescription? What local opportunities open up, especially for those who cling onto academic expectations by …

Giddy EU Elites Gush Over Newsom & AOC’s Brave New World (Same As The Broken Old World Order)

Giddy EU Elites Gush Over Newsom & AOC’s Brave New World (Same As The Broken Old World Order)

Authored by Jonathan Turley, This week, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) joined the many Californians now seeking their fortune elsewhere. The difference is that Newsom is planning to come back to California, even as billionaires, investors, and companies flee his state for greener pastures. Newsom and Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) were selling a brave new world that looked a lot like the broken old world. It was an ironic moment. They were addressing countries at the Munich Security Conference that had previously destroyed their economies through socialist and far-left policies. The rush of liberal Democratic officeholders to Europe was telling. A new poll shows that a record 58 percent of voters believe their party is “too liberal.” But Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez found a welcoming audience in Europe. The global elite gushed over Ocasio-Cortez and sat enraptured as she rattled off socialist platitudes. That included New York Times correspondent Katrin Bennhold, who thrilled the audience by treating it as a given that Ocasio-Cortez will run for president. Both Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez spoke of returning the U.S. to the good graces of …
