Apple Store Becomes Backdrop for Honor’s Brazen Hong Kong Ad Stunt

Photos have been making the rounds on Chinese social media today showing an Honor-branded advertising truck parked directly in front of Apple Canton Road store in Hong Kong, promoting the company’s new Honor 600 series smartphone. The truck’s ad features the slogan “It’s our HONOR” alongside the phrase “orange to orange,” which appears to be a play on the English idiom “apples to apples” – referring to a like-for-like comparison. The slogan is paired with an image of the Honor phone, in a finish that bears more than a passing resemblance to the iPhone 17 Pro’s Cosmic Orange. It’s a brazen stunt for a brand that spun off from Huawei in 2020 before being sold off to another entity to bypass U.S. sanctions. Using Apple’s retail store as a backdrop to pitch your rival device with a similar color is one thing, but when the design is arguably a shameless copy, you’re definitely out of ideas. Apple is unlikely to make a big stink about such guerrilla marketing, as it would only amplify it. And …

Moment brazen thieves calmly go through pub-goers’ bags during £15,000 crime spree

Two brazen thieves caught on CCTV rummaging through pub-goers’ bags and stealing contents in London’s Square Mile have been jailed. Majazy Latif, 28, and Youcef Aliouat were seen pinching a laptop at a bar on Cannon Street while the unsuspecting owner Ayotunde Ariyo stood nearby. City of London Police and the “professional criminals” spend some seven minutes going through punters’ belongings in front of oblivious bar staff. After ordering a drink, 32-year-old Aliouat pulls a chair in front of the bags – which had been left on the floor near the bar – in a bid to hide his crimes. He and Latif then proceed to scour through the customers’ possessions until they come across a laptop – which they remove and place into their own rucksack. Majazy Latif (City of London Police) Final seconds of the footage show Latif shamelessly sipping his drink while strolling to another part of the venue with the laptop stashed in his bag. Latif, of Alvey Street, Southwark was jailed for 23 months after pleading guilty to nine counts …

‘The cover-up is brazen’: one journalist’s tenacious, traumatic fight to expose Ghislaine Maxwell | Ghislaine Maxwell

On 9 September 2022, Lucia Osborne-Crowley flew from London to Miami and caught a Greyhound bus north to West Palm Beach. The writer and journalist had arranged to meet Carolyn Andriano, who was abused by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell from the age of 14 until she was 17, starting in 2001. Andriano had been a crucial witness in the trial against Maxwell in 2021. When the two women met, Andriano said she had just been visited by a private investigator – a man in his 60s, who had heard she was talking to someone about a book. In a restaurant that afternoon, Osborne-Crowley was approached by a man in his 60s. What was she writing, he wanted to know. He offered her drugs, cash and a meeting with one of Epstein’s pilots, then put his hands under her skirt. When the manager asked him to leave, he waited in the car park; Osborne-Crowley had to escape through a staff exit. She had been following the Epstein case for six years by then and had …

“Brazen attack on our children”: Trump admin freezes billions in funding for blue states

“Brazen attack on our children”: Trump admin freezes billions in funding for blue states

The federal government froze $10 billion in childcare funding from five Democratic-led states on Tuesday, citing systemic fraud following a welfare fraud scandal in Minnesota. In letters from Administration for Children and Families, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, Minnesota, Colorado, California, Illinois and New York will lose access to three major childcare funds. Funding will be frozen until investigations into each state are concluded. The largest freeze is from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, which provides cash assistance for family living expenses. Around $7.3 billion is cut off from TANF, $2.4 billion from the Child Care and Development Fund and $870 million from the Social Services Block Grant program. The freeze is being justified in part because of the social services scandal in Minnesota, which found some Minnesotans fraudulently using pandemic and social safety funds without providing social services. Prior to these most recent funding stops, $185 million in annual aid to Minnesota day care centers was frozen. Some of the accused individuals belong to the state’s Somali …
