‘Bath, Harrogate … Woodhall?’ A short break in one of the UK’s most forgotten spa towns | Lincolnshire holidays

It was 6.30am, the cockcrow slot at Jubilee Park lido, and still not quite light. I hadn’t wanted to come this early – it was the only time I’d been able to book. But as I slid into the pool – heated to a delicious 29C – I realised it was a gift. Vapours rose dreamily into cool air laced with owl hoots and the whiff of dewy blooms, and I swam into a sunrise that became more vivid with every stroke. A man in the next lane paused to admire the reddening dawn too; he was hungover, he said, but had come to do his morning lengths nonetheless. A cure of sorts. This Lincolnshire village isn’t one of Britain’s headline spa towns. Most probably don’t know where it is – 18 miles (29km east of Lincoln, for the record. But at the turn of the 20th century, Woodhall Spa was …

Fighter pilot Rumen Radev looks to break Bulgaria’s political deadlock – POLITICO

Fighter pilot Rumen Radev looks to break Bulgaria’s political deadlock – POLITICO

Eclectic supporters Despite years of speculation that he would go for the prime minister’s job, Radev only finally revealed his Progressive Bulgaria project in March. While Radev doesn’t formally lead Progressive Bulgaria, he is unmistakably its face. The movement features a motley assembly of politicians close to him or some who changed their allegiance, and also includes military figures, newcomers and former sports personalities. Only six women lead party lists across the country’s 31 electoral districts. “His face is everywhere, which is probably what matters, because nobody else is recognizable,” said Dimitar Bechev, a senior fellow at Carnegie Europe. Progressive Bulgaria has attracted an eclectic range of backers. Polls show it has drawn some supporters of the pro-Russian far-right Revival party. Ahmed Dogan, the founder of the ethnic Turkish DSP party and now a major rival of Peevski, has also expressed his support. And VMRO, a smaller nationalist grouping, has formally endorsed Radev’s party. Yet the party’s program offers few specifics, and Radev has not positioned Progressive Bulgaria clearly on the political spectrum. His economic …

Wait, could they still actually break up Live Nation?

Wait, could they still actually break up Live Nation?

A federal jury found Wednesday that Live Nation has been operating as an illegal monopoly — a verdict that could lead to the breakup of the entertainment giant and its ticketing subsidiary, Ticketmaster, and bring relief to concertgoers who are sick of dynamic pricing and inexplicable service fees. The ruling came as internal Slack messages surfaced during the trial showing Live Nation employees joking about taking advantage of customers — including one conversation about parking prices that prosecutors argued revealed the company’s true attitude toward its customers. The verdict is the latest development in a web of litigation that began when the Department of Justice and 40 state attorneys general sued Live Nation in 2024 for alleged monopolistic practices. The two companies had merged in 2010 to form an entertainment giant that came to control the majority of ticket sales and venue bookings in the country, which made it more difficult for other companies to compete, according to the lawsuit. Without meaningful competition, customers had no choice but to accept Live Nation’s dubious pricing models, …

Man ‘tried to break into London’s Israeli embassy armed with two knives’, court hears | UK News

A man who twice entered the UK by small boat tried to break into the Israeli embassy in London with two knives to “exact revenge” for the killing of children in Gaza, a court heard. Kuwait-born Abdullah Albadri is accused of planning a terror attack when he took weapons to the consulate while wearing a red and white scarf wrapped around his head and face. The 34-year-old is said to have climbed an 8ft (2.4m) fence in a bid to enter the embassy grounds in Palace Green, Kensington, west London, on 28 April last year. A trial at the Old Bailey on Wednesday heard that Albadri was “almost successful in his attempt to scale the fence”, but armed diplomatic protection officers reached up and grabbed him. This was said to be a reference to the Israeli war in Gaza, …

Tax Day proposal from House Dems would give break to poll workers

Election officials assist voters in casting their ballot in the primary vote at Bruns Avenue Elementary School, Mecklenburg County Precinct 12, on March 3, 2026 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Grant Baldwin | Getty Images House Democrats on Wednesday are introducing a proposal that would give tax relief to election poll workers. Under the legislation, led by Reps. Joe Morelle and George Latimer, both New York Democrats, the stipend poll workers receive for working elections would no longer count as gross income for federal income tax purposes. The measure was obtained first by CNBC. “Cutting taxes for poll workers recognizes their vital role in safeguarding American elections,” Morelle said in a statement. “The Poll Worker Tax Cut Act will ease financial burdens while encouraging participation, strengthening election integrity, and ensuring these civil servants are properly valued for their effort, dedication, and patriotism.” Morelle, in his capacity as the top Democrat on the House committee with jurisdiction over federal elections, is leading efforts to counter President Donald Trump’s election priorities, which include reining in mail voting, and …

Why Feeling Heard Can Make or Break a Relationship

Why Feeling Heard Can Make or Break a Relationship

A couple sits down to dinner at the end of a long day. One partner starts describing something upsetting that happened at work. Before the story is over, the other jumps in. “You’re overthinking it.” “You should have said something.” “Why do you let this bother you so much?” There is no shouting. No insult. Nothing obviously dramatic. Still, something important has already been lost. What was needed in that moment was not analysis, advice, or a fast solution. It was listening. In romantic relationships, people usually talk about love, trust, attraction, and commitment. All of these matter. But there is another part of relationship life that often gets less attention than it deserves: whether a person feels genuinely heard by their partner. Shaping a Relationship’s Emotional Climate That experience can shape the emotional climate of a relationship more than many couples realize. Feeling heard can calm people down. It can reduce defensiveness. It can make difficult conversations feel less threatening. Over time, it can become one of the clearest signs that a relationship is …

How to Break a Loop of Stuck Thinking

How to Break a Loop of Stuck Thinking

Let me tell you a funny story: A few days ago, my 3-year-old told me she had a sore armpit. I asked her some questions, concerned. I assumed she’d strained her lats hanging from the jungle gym, or something similar. Then, she showed me her “armpit.” She was showing the inside of her elbow, where she gets eczema that flares up periodically. Poor baby had a red patch that needed ointment. But what was amusing was when I said to her, “Oh, it’s your elbow,” she kept insisting it was not her elbow that was sore. It was her armpit. She adamantly told me the pointy part was an elbow, and the part she was referring to was most definitely her armpit. Her explanation was smart; it just didn’t match my terminology. Why am I telling this story? Because it illustrates one of the fundamental root causes of stuck thinking: We try to solve a problem based on an assumption of a reliable narrator. Medical doctors, mechanics, and tech troubleshooters all face these types of …
