Britney Spears has pleaded guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and drugs. She did not attend the hearing Ventura County Superior Court on Monday and entered the plea via her lawyers. The decision is expected to allow her to avoid jail time. The 44-year-old pop star had been charged with a single misdemeanour count of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and at least one drug on Thursday. A representative for the singer said in April that Spears had voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation facility ⁠after the arrest. On 4 March, Spears was arrested after she was pulled over for driving her black BMW fast and erratically near her home, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said. At the time, the CHP said the singer was arrested and taken to a Ventura County jail after taking a series of field sobriety tests during which she seemed to be impaired. Britney Spears has been charged with driving under the influence, following her arrest earlier this year. In March, the Grammy winner was pulled over by the police while driving in California and taken into custody. The Ventura county district attorney’s office has since confirmed on Thursday evening that the Piece Of Me singer had been charged with a single misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and at least one drug. Following her arrest, it was reported that Britney was due to appear in court on Monday 4 May. However, because her charge is a misdemeanour, she will not be required to attend in person. Britney Spears has gone into rehab, five weeks after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The 44-year-old pop star voluntarily checked herself into a substance abuse treatment facility, according to an email sent to The Associated Press on Sunday. Spears was arrested on 5 March, after California Highway Patrol officers received a report that a BMW was driving fast and “erratically” on US 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County line. She was later arrested for “driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol” and taken to Ventura County Main Jail, north west of Los Angeles.
