The broadcaster revealed that “after careful consideration”, showrunner Russell T Davies and production company Bad Wolf “collectively decided not to go ahead” with the episode. “This decision was not taken lightly, and we know it will be disappointing for fans, but in order to set the show up for future series, it was decided that rather than bridge the gap with a one off special, we are choosing to push forward to invest in the long-term future of the show which ensures that when the TARDIS lands once more, it does so in all its glory,” the BBC said in a statement. It was also announced that the BBC would be putting Doctor Who out to competitive tender – …

FIFA cancels mispriced free World Cup tickets after website error

FIFA cancels mispriced free World Cup tickets after website error

June 5 : FIFA has cancelled World Cup tickets for about 60 fans who were able to mistakenly purchase them for free due to a website error, and world soccer’s governing body is now asking for them to be paid in full.  The affected fans were notified on Wednesday about tickets that were “allocated at no charge (0 USD) due to a prior payment issue during the checkout process”, FIFA said on X.  “The tickets requested by these fans remain reserved, and the affected fans have been invited to complete payment of the correct amount. FIFA regrets the error and any inconvenience caused.” It was the latest hiccup in what has been a controversial ticketing process for the tournament co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Last week the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey said they had issued a subpoena to FIFA over its ticketing practices amid concerns about ‌fans’ seat locations at the World Cup.  The 48-team tournament runs from June 11 to July 19.  Source link

FIFA Cancels World Cup Tickets to About 60 Fans Who Got Them for Free Due to Error

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — FIFA has canceled World Cup tickets issued to about 60 fans who mistakenly got them for free because of a website error. “FIFA regrets the error and any inconvenience caused,” soccer’s ruling body said. “The tickets requested by these fans remain reserved, and the affected fans have been invited to complete payment of the correct amount.” The mispriced tickets were sold through the official World Cup site on May 21, FIFA said in an email message to buyers. That date was more than three months after FIFA President Gianni Infantino said all 104 World Cup games had sold out. Tickets are still being sold by FIFA for games at the World Cup, which opens next Thursday in Mexico City. It is unclear if seats for games in less demand will drop in price under FIFA’s surge pricing model that has been controversial for fans. FIFA also is operating its own resale platform — and taking 15% commission from both buyers and sellers — in order to cut out ticket dealers …

The project works to break down barriers in the local community. For the past four years, Café Laziz has played a crucial role in St Helens’ Refugee Week celebrations, providing food stalls with offerings from all over the world for community events. Emma said her team were all set to go again this year, with the annual Refugee Week event landing between June 15 and 21. However, this has all changed after the new Reform UK leader of St Helens Council announced that the local authority would be withdrawing all support and funding for the Refugee Week events. The right-wing party …

US Homeland Security Cancels Most Pending Noem-Era Contracts After Review

By Ted Hesson and David Shepardson WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is canceling most pending contracts initiated under ousted Secretary Kristi Noem, the current secretary said on Wednesday, a move that follows congressional scrutiny and an internal watchdog review of her contracting practices. During a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, Secretary Markwayne Mullin also said he ‌would restore longer training for federal immigration ‌officers, reversing a Noem-era decision that shortened training during a hiring surge and drew bipartisan concerns in Congress about whether recruits were adequately prepared. Mullin faced questions from a top Democrat about what steps he had taken to roll back Noem-era contracts. “We are looking at the contracts that weren’t already signed, and we did go through and cancel most of those,” Mullin said. The move is part of a broader effort by Mullin to unwind contracting practices under Noem that drew bipartisan criticism. U.S. President Donald Trump fired Noem in March as public support for his immigration crackdown diminished and …

The crime drama series has officially been canceled after two seasons, marking the eighth NBC show so far this year to be pulled amid a shifting TV landscape that is moving away from syndicated TV programming. NBC’s drastic overhaul comes after the network signed an 11-year deal with the NBA, meaning the TV schedule had to clear space in its original programming to prepare to air up to 100 regular-season games in the fall. Regarding the decision, NBCUniversal spokesperson Frances Berwick told The Hollywood Reporter, “NBCUniversal is making changes to our first-run syndication division to better align with the programming preferences of local stations.” NBC did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment. They include the “recent successes of the administration including economy and small business wins, Task Force to Eliminate Fraud highlights, and foreign policy updates,” the official told the Post.
