Coronation Street airs Debbie and Carl showdown as she orders him to leave

Tensions are rising in Coronation Street, as mother and son Debbie (Sue Devaney) and Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) had an almighty argument ahead of ‘Murder Week’. Carl may well be the resident who meets their maker during an epic series of standalone episodes, and let’s face it – there’s plenty of people who would like to see him leave Weatherfield forever. Earlier this week, stepfather Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) knocked him to the ground with a punch, warning him to stay away from Debbie and stop trying to siphon money from her. Following the brutal attack, Carl was hospitalised, and he spelled out to Debbie that he knew who was responsible. However, while being interviewed by the police, he pretended that his memory was hazy and that he couldn’t remember who assaulted him. Carl only did this for financial gain, having told Debbie that she must sign over 50 per cent of the Chariot Square Hotel to him or Ronnie would face prison. Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) attacked Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard). ITV In today’s episode, …

Nothing CEO Carl Pei says smartphone apps will disappear as AI agents take their place

Nothing CEO Carl Pei says smartphone apps will disappear as AI agents take their place

Carl Pei, co-founder and CEO of Nothing, is imagining a future beyond the iPhone — and it’s a device powered by AI agents, not running apps. “In terms of AI in software, I think people should understand that apps are going to disappear,” said Pei, whose consumer electronics brand makes unique smartphones and other accessories. “So, if you’re a founder or a startup and your app is like where the core value lies, that will be disrupted whether you like it or not.” Pei made these comments during an interview at the SXSW conference in Austin on Wednesday. The founder has talked about an AI-first device before, as this vision helped the company close its $200 million Series C funding round last year. At the time, Nothing was pitching the idea of a new kind of smartphone using AI and personalization technology that’s accurate enough for its users to not feel they had to go behind the AI and double-check its output. At SXSW, Pei expanded on his vision for the AI-first device and the …

Coronation Street sets all-out villain head-to-head for Theo and Carl

Coronation Street sets all-out villain head-to-head for Theo and Carl

James Cartwright has revealed that his character Theo Silverton will lock horns with fellow antagonist Carl Webster in Coronation Street. The ITV soap recently confirmed in a flash-forward whodunnit that five Weatherfield residents could meet their fate, including Theo Silverton and Carl Webster, both of whom have a long list of enemies ready to see the back of them. Theo has been physically, verbally and mentally abusing Todd for months, with his latest act being stripping Todd of any financial assets, and joking about opening up a junior savings account for him to start collating the meagre amounts of ‘pocket money’ he’s been handed. “Theo’s driven through Coronation Street like a truck with three wheels, and crashed through everybody, hasn’t he?” James said to Inside Soap. “He’s upset Carl. They’ve got a bit of a funny thing. There’s James, who is physical, he’s got motive. There’s Summer, maybe she doesn’t like what’s going on, and there’s also George.” Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) killed Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank). ITV “Sarah is Todd’s best friend,” he continued. “And …

What Did Carl Rogers Really Say About Therapy?

What Did Carl Rogers Really Say About Therapy?

Carl Rogers is probably one of the most well-known names in psychology of all time. His work is still often featured in introductory textbooks, even though he died almost 40 years ago in 1987. He is best remembered for developing client-centered therapy in the 1940s and 1950s. At the time, it was a radical new way of doing therapy because it turned the world of therapy on its head. Therapy was no longer something that the therapist did to a patient; it was about creating a relationship that freed the client to be an active agent for their own change. This was a truly innovative approach that went against the grain of previous psychoanalytic or behavioral therapies, and to this day, it is an idea that permeates the helping professions. Few therapists or psychologists today will not be influenced by Rogers and his idea that it was not so much what the therapist did to a client, but the way in which they related to a client. Specifically, he is remembered for proposing that empathy, …

With a history of bigotry and racism, Trump nominee Jeremy Carl gets a Senate hearing

With a history of bigotry and racism, Trump nominee Jeremy Carl gets a Senate hearing

A nominee selected by President Donald Trump will get a Senate hearing on Thursday for a top State Department position, in spite of a long, documented history of “violent” and “racist comments.”  Jeremy Carl, the president’s pick for assistant secretary of state for international organizations, is set to appear Thursday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He previously served in Trump’s first administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior. If confirmed, Carl will oversee more than 100 diplomats worldwide and work closely with the United Nations agencies on human rights, immigration, refugees, and global development, including UNICEF and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.  “It’s quite a powerful position,” Desirée Cormier Smith, former U.S. Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice at the State Department, told Salon. “He would be in charge of determining how the U.S. works with those bodies.” However, a long trail of inflammatory and divisive comments is following Carl to his hearing. In September, a CNN KFile investigation found that he attempted to delete thousands of social media posts before …

Carl Sagan’s 9 timeless lessons for detecting baloney

Carl Sagan’s 9 timeless lessons for detecting baloney

The more informed we are, the more successful we’ll be in our decision-making endeavors. That’s only true up to a point: it’s only true if the information we’ve acquired is accurate and truthful. Making good decisions doesn’t merely rely on how much information we take in; it also depends on the quality of that information. If what we’ve instead ingested and accepted is misinformation or disinformation — incorrect information that doesn’t align with factual reality — then we not only become susceptible to grift and fraud ourselves, but we risk having our minds captured by charismatic charlatans. When that occurs, we can lose everything: money, trust, relationships, and even our mental independence. This isn’t a problem that’s new here in 2026; this is a problem as old as humanity itself. When someone is compelling to us, and their arguments are convincing to us, we tend to go along with them, lauding both the idea and the one who puts it forth. We’re even more vulnerable if the idea is something that appeals to us emotionally, …
