Joanna Gaines’ son is all grown up! Teen gets ready for new chapter as he appears in rare home video

Joanna Gaines’ son Duke is growing up fast! The Fixer Upper star’s third child will be turning 18 in May, and will no doubt be flying the nest like his older siblings, Drake and Ella, come the summer.  Ahead of this new chapter, Duke celebrated his prom with his school friends earlier in April, which Joanna documented in a video – which can be viewed above.  In the footage, Duke looked dapper as he got ready for the big day, dressed in a smart suit accessorized with a beautiful flower pin, fresh from the family’s garden.  © InstagramJoanna Gaines’ son Duke getting ready for his prom In fact, Joanna was in charge or all the flower arrangements, which were given to all of Duke’s friends. Alongside the video, Joanna wrote: “Prom 2026. Nothing like hanging in the garden all day for prom prep with some sweet mamas. When the kids showed up they were gracious to let us take a million pics of them.”  The proud parents is known for going all out for special …

A dark chapter returns: Stripping citizenship

A dark chapter returns: Stripping citizenship

One of the lesser-known effects of the Trump administration’s commitment to mass deportations is the right’s newfound freedom to talk of expelling anyone of whom they disapprove. You’ll hear people casually talking about deporting New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, or Donald Trump suggesting that “the Squad” — the self-proclaimed group that includes Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, all women of color — should “go back” where they came from, despite the fact that three of the four were born in the United States. Even though Omar, who was born in Somalia, became a naturalized citizen when she was 17, Trump has said many times that she should be deported. It has become commonplace to hear such threats in the political discourse on the right. Even former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, herself the daughter of immigrants, said in 2022 that Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., should be expelled from the country. (Warnock was born in Savannah, Georgia.) Now the Trump administration is …

‘Very happy’ Nicole Kidman enters new chapter without Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman is showing no signs of slowing down, having taken on the lead role in Scarpetta, a new crime thriller for Amazon Prime Video. She plays Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the iconic character from Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling book series. Described as a “gripping, multi-layered thriller,” the eight-part series is told across two timelines: from Scarpetta’s early career as a Chief Medical Examiner in the late ’90s to the present day. In the latest edition of HELLO!, the actress opened up about the role and shared an insight into her personal life following her divorce from Keith Urban in January. “It’s actually a role that first came to me a long time ago,” she explained. “I loved the idea of playing her then but the script wasn’t quite there. It’s taken time for us to get here and to really feel we are doing justice to this truly iconic character Patrica Cornwell created, and the source material.” She continued: “But there is no method to the madness. There is a want for spontaneity and a desire …

5 Laugh-Out-Loud Funny Early Readers and Chapter Books

5 Laugh-Out-Loud Funny Early Readers and Chapter Books

This content contains affiliate links. When you buy through these links, we may earn an affiliate commission. There’s nothing better than silliness to get a new or reluctant reader to pick up a book. I know this from years of being a teacher, and because I was a late reader, who didn’t learn to read until around age ten. Some early readers or beginning chapter books are a slog. They focus on the words more than the experience of the story. But when you can combine laughing with reading, it’s a lot more fun and motivating. Humor also helps children who have an easy time learning to read, because it helps them choose books over screens and other exciting distractions. Whether it’s fleas fighting for a spot at the top of the mountain, fascinating facts about animal poop, or a very silly mouse delivering the mail, the books on this list will make readers (and also adults listening) laugh out loud. They range from a level 1 reader to a 160-page chapter book—truly something to …

Casey Bloys on HBO’s next chapter: Harry Potter, The Pitt and big new bets

Casey Bloys on HBO’s next chapter: Harry Potter, The Pitt and big new bets

The man shaping HBO’s future is thinking less about algorithms and more about instinct. As Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, looks ahead to the UK launch of HBO Max on Thursday 26 March, his guiding principle remains strikingly simple: make television people will pay for – and make it unlike anything else. “One of the things about working at HBO for as long as I have… is that, before streaming, we were unique in that we were television people were asked to pay for,” he says. “So in development, we would naturally ask ourselves: does this feel like television worth paying for?” It’s a deceptively powerful framework – one that has shaped everything from Game of Thrones to Euphoria – and continues to underpin HBO’s strategy as it expands its direct-to-consumer offering in the UK. Bloys is clear that there is no single answer to that question. “Does it feel like a spectacle? Does it feel cinematic? Does it feel like it’s pushing boundaries in some way? Does it feel …

The least surprising chapter of the Manus story is what’s happening right now

The least surprising chapter of the Manus story is what’s happening right now

Okay, so the U.S. and China are locked in an all-out race to build the most powerful AI on the planet. Beijing is throwing billions at homegrown models, tightening its grip on the tech sector, and watching nervously as its best AI talent gravitates to U.S. companies. Yet Manus — one of China’s most buzzed-about AI startups — quietly relocated to Singapore and sold itself to Meta for $2 billion. Did anyone think there would not be a reckoning over this tie-up? As industry watchers know, Manus burst onto the scene in the spring of last year with a demo video showing an AI agent screening job candidates, planning vacations, and analyzing stock portfolios, and it cheekily claimed it outperformed OpenAI’s Deep Research. Within weeks, Benchmark — the consummate Silicon Valley venture firm — led a $75 million funding round at a $500 million valuation. That was surprising. (Senator John Cornyn had thoughts, tweeting at the time, “Who thinks it is a good idea for American investors to subsidize our biggest adversary in AI, only …

The Last Chapter Isn’t Over: The Value of Storytelling in Caring for Our Elders

The Last Chapter Isn’t Over: The Value of Storytelling in Caring for Our Elders

“People need a function, he believes. And he has always been functional, no one can take that away from him.” — Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove Fredrik Backman’s “A Man Called Ove” follows a protagonist who has lost his wife and has hardened into a bitter and solitary figure, a curmudgeonly presence in his neighborhood. His character is reminiscent of Scrooge in Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol,” described as “hard as flint.” Yet Backman’s novel slowly reveals that Ove was not always this way. Moving between past and present, the story offers glimpses of the man he once was, the version of Ove who seems to have disappeared alongside his wife. In remembering Sonja, we learn that after her cancer diagnosis she “found it easier to forgive than Ove did. Forgive God and the universe for everything.” Ove, by contrast, felt that “someone needed to remain angry on her behalf.” As we read, we come to realize that his seemingly petty frustrations, his arguments with council representatives and “the men in white shirts,” even …
