Crypto industry scores win as Clarity Act bill clears Senate hurdle

Gopixa | Istock Editorial | Getty Images The cryptocurrency industry notched a key win after a Senate panel on Thursday approved the Clarity Act, the first wide-ranging piece of legislation pertaining to the new industry. The Senate banking committee largely voted along party lines, 15-9, with Democratic Sens. Ruben Gallego, of Arizona, and Angela Alsobrooks, of Maryland, joining all Republicans on the panel to vote for the bill. The measure has a long way to go before becoming law, given both powerful opposition and the fact that it would need to clear the full Senate as well as the House before heading to President Donald Trump’s desk. During the hearing, both Republicans and Democrats committed to continue working through areas of disagreement, including how best to ensure bad actors using digital assets can be caught and ethics language to address the issue of elected officials, such as Trump, profiting from crypto. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., one of several Democrats who has worked with Republicans on the bill, said while he was in “crypto hell the …

Can Leaders Create Clarity When the Future Isn’t Clear?

Can Leaders Create Clarity When the Future Isn’t Clear?

We all have a picture of the kind of leader people tend to respect and look to for direction: They’re decisive, they create a clear roadmap, and they help their teams understand where they’re headed and what it will take to get there. And yes, those qualities still matter. But they also come from a version of leadership that assumes things are fairly steady. And that, with enough experience, enough data, and enough business acumen, a leader can make a smart call and have a reasonable sense of what’s coming next. Today, many leaders are making decisions amid moving targets, shifting priorities, and changing market conditions. New pressures show up before the last ones are fully sorted out. Sometimes the data helps. Sometimes it doesn’t. That doesn’t let leaders off the hook when it comes to creating clarity. It means the job has changed. Clarity is no longer about having the perfect answer or laying out a flawless long-range plan. It’s about helping people move forward when not everything is known. It’s about naming what’s …

US Senator Urges Delay Of CLARITY Act Senate Markup Until May: Report

US Senator Urges Delay Of CLARITY Act Senate Markup Until May: Report

Authored by Brayden Lindrea via CoinTelegraph.com, A US senator has reportedly urged Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott to delay the markup for the crypto market structure bill until May, as banking and crypto representatives need more time to resolve disagreements over stablecoin yield provisions. US Republican Thom Tillis of North Carolina told reporters Monday that he does not expect the Senate Banking Committee to mark up the legislation, also known as the CLARITY Act, in April and has recommended that Scott schedule it for next month, according to Punchbowl News. Tillis, who has been leading discussions between crypto and banking members, reportedly told Scott: “It’s very important to me not to accelerate things, to hear everybody, and give them a rational basis for what we do accept.” Continued delays have sparked concern that the CLARITY Act may not pass before the US midterms in November, an event that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said could reverse momentum of the bill. A Newly Discovered Recording Lets You Hear Delta Blues Legend Robert Johnson in Stunning Clarity

Great swathes of rock music since the nineteen-sixties would never have existed, we’re sometimes told, were it not for the recordings of Robert Johnson. Certainly the likes of Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, and Bob Dylan have never hesitated to acknowledge his influence. “From the first note the vibrations from the loudspeaker made my hair stand up,” Dylan writes in his autobiography of his first encounter with Johnson’s music. “The stabbing sounds from the guitar could almost break a window. When Johnson started singing, he seemed like a guy who could have sprung from the head of Zeus in full armor. I immediately differentiated between him and anyone else I had ever heard.” Not bad for a recording older than Dylan himself. In the early nineteen-sixties, the blues as Johnson played it seems to have sounded electrifyingly revelatory to the generation of then-young musicians who managed to hear it, regardless of their own origins. All such recordings date from 1936 or 1937, the fruits of just two sessions in makeshift Texas studios overseen by producer …

The Obsessive-Compulsive Pursuit of Clarity Over Freedom

The Obsessive-Compulsive Pursuit of Clarity Over Freedom

We chalk up idealism to youth, but it’s fair to say that most of us, even if we consider ourselves to be adults, struggle with tolerating uncertainty. Personally, my obsessive-compulsive mind detests it. I want my life to appear as a clear narrative, where everything I do and everything that happens to me is part of some grander play, with me at its center, of course. A recent meta-analysis of meaning and depression (Ouyang et al. 2026) concluded that coherence—the ability to make sense of one’s experiences and fit them neatly into a worldview—had the strongest negative correlation with depression, as opposed to other forms of meaning. While this is a hopeful perspective, it hides the reality of rigidity. The caveat is that coherence must be possible for it to matter. So, what happens if it isn’t? What if the data don’t fit one’s worldview or challenge it altogether? Arguably, from the obsessive-compulsive perspective, where coherence is a necessity, its lack can and likely will be destabilizing. In treatment, a patient may tell us they …

Coinbase Exec Says Senate CLARITY Act Deal On Stablecoin Yield “Very Close”

Coinbase Exec Says Senate CLARITY Act Deal On Stablecoin Yield “Very Close”

Authored by Amin Haqshanas via CoinTelegraph.com, Coinbase chief legal officer Paul Grewal said the US Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is “moving toward” a markup hearing in the US Senate Banking Committee and could eventually move to a floor vote if senators resolve the stablecoin yield dispute and schedule a markup. Speaking in a Wednesday interview on Fox Business, Grewal said lawmakers are nearing agreement on core elements of the crypto market structure bill, even as debate continues over stablecoin yield. “I think we’re very close to a deal,” he said. The remarks point to possible movement on one of the last major sticking points in Senate talks over crypto market structure legislation: whether stablecoin issuers or platforms should be allowed to offer yield or similar rewards. The dispute has helped delay a Senate Banking Committee markup, leaving the broader effort to set federal rules for digital asset oversight still unresolved. US banks have pushed for restrictions, arguing that such incentives could draw deposits away from traditional institutions and disrupt the banking system. Grewal pushed back on …

Special school leaders call for clarity on future funding

Special school leaders call for clarity on future funding

Plans for national bandings on specialist provision packages ‘deeply concerning’ Plans for national bandings on specialist provision packages ‘deeply concerning’ Ministers have been urged to clarify how special schools will be funded under their white paper reforms.  The document pledged a “fundamental reset” for special schools, including new funding bandings for provision, a curriculum review and a plan for the institutions to provide outreach and short-term placements for mainstream pupils. But few details – beyond a £800 million fund to help towards outreach – have been given on how the changing role of special schools will be paid-for. Government wants education, health and care plans to be reserved for pupils with the “most complex needs” from 2035.  Under the proposed system, a child will be placed on a “specialist provision package”, which will secure the right provision before an EHCP is issued. Funding for the packages will be set by national banding rates. ‘Deeply concerned’ Pauline Aitchison, deputy director at School North East, which represents the region’s schools, said there were “hundreds of different conditions” …
