This Manchester Mansion Has the World’s Largest Private Collection of 20th-Century Vermont Art

This Manchester Mansion Has the World’s Largest Private Collection of 20th-Century Vermont Art

Lyman Orton arrived at a local auction six decades ago in hopes of furnishing his first house, only to spy a seemingly simple yet thought-provoking framed landscape. “The whole idea that artists fell in love with the state and then painted it was just fascinating to me,” the patriarch of the family that owns the Vermont Country Store recently recalled. The Southern Vermont Arts Center, a 120-acre Manchester campus anchored by the century-old Yester House mansion, is set to open a two-floor, 12,000-square-foot addition as part of a $14.5 million capital project. “I feel this has been a hidden gem for 100 years,” Executive Director Amelia Wiggins said in an interview. “We’re trying to unhide it.” The Richmond-based architecture and building company Birdseye designed the new wing to feature Orton’s “For the Love of Vermont” collection, as well as a rooftop terrace and lower-level gallery named for Bob Van Degna, president of the center’s board of trustees and a top project donor. The expansion includes a climate-controlled storage space for 1,000 other works accumulated since …

Kacey Musgraves on New Lee Collection, Online Stunts and Acting Future

Kacey Musgraves on New Lee Collection, Online Stunts and Acting Future

Fresh off of the release of her new album, Middle of Nowhere, Kacey Musgraves is not slowing down. Before she heads out on the road to tour the record later this summer, the country star is dropping a capsule collection with denim brand Lee, featuring more than 100 men’s and women’s items that span jeans, tees, jackets, dresses, sleepwear, swimwear, accessories and pet accessories. The collection is titled Kacey Lee, in a nod to her middle name, and has been designed exclusively for Walmart. “It was my dream to make a collection that was available to all people everywhere, even people out in the middle of nowhere,” Musgraves tells The Hollywood Reporter of tying the collab in with her new music. “This collection is going to be spread way out across America, big cities and small towns, and so I was thinking about fans in big cities as well as people even in my tiny hometown.” She has been working on Kacey Lee for about a year — designing as she was wrapping up work on …

Wellcome Collection to Transfer 2,000 Manuscripts to Jain Community

Wellcome Collection to Transfer 2,000 Manuscripts to Jain Community

The Wellcome Collection in London announced Friday its plans to return 2,000 manuscripts to the Jain community. In an unusual move, however, they will not be returned to Pakistan, where many of the manuscripts were purchased a century ago, or to India, where the majority of Jains live today. Instead, they will head to the University of Birmingham’s Dharmanath Network in Jain Studies, which was established in 2023 and is wholly financed by Jain communities living in the UK, the US, and India. Related Articles In a release, the collection said it “believes this to be the most appropriate place to maximise community access, deepen research opportunities and safeguard the future of this significant collection.” The transfer comes after “several years of open dialogue” between the Wellcome Collection and the UK-based Institute of Jainology. The release adds that the Dharmanath Network “will open the collection to those researchers and faith communities who are best placed to read, interpret and translate their content for a global audience.” In a statement, Marie-Helene Gorisse, an assistant professor at …

Adidas and Song for the Mute Are Dropping Their Freshest Collection Yet

Adidas and Song for the Mute Are Dropping Their Freshest Collection Yet

Adidas has no shortage of high-profile fashion collaborators these days, from Willy Chavarria to Wales Bonner. But the German sportswear giant’s ongoing linkups with the Australian menswear label Song for the Mute—one of the Stripes’s most singular and fruitful partnerships in recent years—has often felt overshadowed by those bigger names. That looks set to change this weekend, however, as the duo unveil their ambitious seventh project: a wide-ranging footwear and apparel collection dubbed ADI007 (no relation to James Bond, unfortunately). The capsule takes inspiration from the school uniforms that Song for the Mute founders Melvin Tayana and Lyna Ty wore growing up. On the footwear side, that means bold reimaginings of two of Adidas’s most popular silhouettes: the Tokyo and the Samba. The latter is a new spin on the Samba LX Freizeit, a beefed-up iteration of the classic soccer shoe kitted out with a hefty tread sole. SFTM’s take mimics a school boy dress shoe with full leather uppers—in either black or brown—and a perforated toe box. The sleek Tokyos, meanwhile, take a less …

Frick Collection Announces Three-Year Partnership with Louis Vuitton

The Frick Collection in New York has announced a three-year partnership with Louis Vuitton that will see the fashion house sponsor a number of initiatives at the museum. Louis Vuitton will be the lead sponsor of three of the Frick’s upcoming exhibitions: “Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450–1500,” which will look at the Italian city as an epicenter for innovation in bronze during the Renaissance, opening this fall; “Painting with Fire: Susanne de Court and the Art of Enamel,” a survey of the 17th-century French enameler, opening in spring 2027; and a third exhibition that has not yet been announced but will focus on 19th-century paintings and open in late 2027. Related Articles This curatorial support will also extend to a two-year position that will be known as the Louis Vuitton Curatorial Research Associate. The recipient of this position will be Yifu Liu, who is currently a curatorial fellow at the Frick, where she is researching “cultural exchange and the hybridization of artistic practices between Europe and China in the eighteenth century,” according to a …

From School Run To Pool Side: Regatta Launched The Summer Collection Of Dreams

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication. For the last few years, I’ve been struggling to find the balance between comfortable and cute in my summer wardrobe. The clothes that I do have fall into one of those two categories, but never both. If you ask me, the platonic ideal for summer clothes is pieces you can picnic and lounge around in during the day, and wear straight out to drinks. And of course, they need to be breathable and flattering at the same time. While I’ve been searching high and low for that combination, I somehow always end up with grass stains on some of my more precious clothes, or feeling severely underdressed while sipping on my Aperol. Needless to …

7 jewellery basics you need in your collection

7 jewellery basics you need in your collection

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more We often talk about wardrobe staples – the perfect white T-shirt, simple straight-leg jeans, a comfortable but smart shoe – but jewellery basics can be just as transformative. According to personal stylist Deborah Sheridan-Taylor, jewellery foundations are “your baseline, your starting point. The place from which everything else begins and builds.” Much like fashion basics, the best jewellery pieces are the ones you barely think about because they work with everything. “That masculine pinky ring, the piece you feel genuinely naked without,” says Sheridan-Taylor. “These are your foundations and once you have them, everything else you add becomes intentionally more considered.” From layered chains to everyday hoops, here are the jewellery essentials worth investing in. 1. A fine chain necklace Every jewellery collection starts …

Ikea’s New Designer Collection Is Home-Office Heaven

Ikea’s New Designer Collection Is Home-Office Heaven

Meanwhile, Ikea’s new flexible floor lamp marks the Swedish brand’s first collaboration with designer Lex Pott, who wanted to create a “lamp that bends,” and did so by inserting 45-degree swivel points into the light’s stand to fashion a metal lamp that transforms from an uplighter to a spotlight to a floor or reading light. Mikael Axelsson, who designed Ikea’s excellent new blowup chair, has also created another of our favorite pieces from PS 2026: a stool with a ratchet-toothed construction inspired by simple woodworking tools acting as a low-tech height adjustment mechanism that is also delightfully and unapologetically analog. As with his inflatable chair, Axelsson enlisted his four daughters to strength-test various prototypes to nail the lever system, and he found that the design’s elementary nature only encouraged his children to use it more. Wihlborg also designed a whimsical bedside table from pine that draws direct inspiration from traditional birdhouses, an idea that supposedly came to Wihlborg as he strolled through his garden. The table, with its familiar birdhouse hole on the front, hides …

Hurley Is Collaborating with Keith Haring Estate on Capsule Collection

Hurley Is Collaborating with Keith Haring Estate on Capsule Collection

The streetwear brand Hurley, which is known for surf and swim apparel, has released a capsule collection inspired by Keith Haring, one of the most recognizable and oft-licensed American artists. The collection includes cotton T-shirts, board shirts, bucket and trucker hats, bathing suits, and sweatshirts for men and women, with prices ranging from $28 (a black mesh trucker hat featuring one of Haring’s blue dancing figures astride a two-legged figure that looks like some kind of dolphin/human hybrid, standing in the waves) to $100 (a reversible one-piece women’s bathing suit featuring dancing daisies on one side and an allover flower print on the other). Related Articles Haring died of AIDS-related causes in 1990, at age 31. By then he was internationally known for his graffiti-inspired artworks and recurring motifs like the radiant baby, dancing figures, barking dogs, UFOs, and pulsing hearts. His subway drawings, done in white chalk on the black paper filling empty frames where advertisement were placed, became so popular that collectors and fans would follow Haring onto trains, snatching the drawings as soon …

How Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys Built a Best-in-Class Art Collection With a ‘Collect What You Feel’ Philosophy

How Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys Built a Best-in-Class Art Collection With a ‘Collect What You Feel’ Philosophy

Swizz Beatz: She did too. Alicia Keys: So when you say, what do you learn about each other? Realizing that we have no idea the depth that’s inside of each of us. That was one of the most exciting things to learn about him in our relationship is how much he knows, how versed he is in the world of art. That’s one of my favorite things to learn about you. And I continue to learn that from him. Swizz Beatz: And then to add to that, yes, we’re Black collectors—but we’re art collectors and we feel that we can represent our tribe and also shine light on other people’s tribes. It was only right to start with our own tribe. We have artists of all colors in our collection, but it was only right to highlight our tribe. But we plan on doing Giants 2, 3, 4, 5, 6—keep changing the shows up, maybe change the titles. Can you guys talk a little about the different emotional responses that some of these different works …
