The AI race has grown so frenzied that, by 2035, U.S. data centers are projected to consume more natural gas than Germany and Japan combined. Over the next decade, data centers are expected to be the second-strongest driver of natural gas demand growth after LNG exports. The facilities could consume about 18 billion cubic feet per day, according to a new report from BloombergNEF, nearly double the amount the organization predicted just nine months ago.  The new forecast takes into account that not all announced data center projects will be completed. Data centers that produce power onsite have grabbed headlines in recent months, with Meta, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon all announcing plans for new natural gas power plants that will bypass the grid. Projects such as these will consume 2.9 billion to 3.4 billion cubic feet per day by 2035. That’s about as much as all data centers consume today, including natural gas used to generate power for the grid. According to The Block’s data dashboard, Kalshi, Polymarket, and Polymarket US posted $50.59 billion in combined monthly trading volume in July, marking a 7.8% increase from June’s $46.95 billion monthly volume. Kalshi remained in the lead, and recorded $37.7 billion in the past month. This marks a 14% month-over-month growth. Notably, the monthly data indicates a shift in volume between Polymarket and Polymarket US. While Polymarket’s monthly volume contracted 26% to $7.9 billion, the U.S. platform saw its volume rise 54% to $5 billion. The combined volume of Polymarket and Polymarket US decreased from $14 billion to $12.9 billion. The U.S. platform, regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, dropped its initial waitlist restrictions in May, opening the platform to all U.S. users. Apple is facing a new lawsuit from three customers who allegedly lost a combined $1.8 million after falling victim to a fake Bitcoin wallet app in the App Store, according to a complaint filed in California federal court on Friday. The complaint alleges that Apple violated California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and other laws by failing to adequately review and monitor apps distributed through the App Store, despite marketing it as “a safe and trusted place to discover and download apps.” Due to these assurances in Apple’s marketing, the complaint said the plaintiffs trusted that a Sparrow Wallet app they downloaded from the App Store on iOS was legitimate, when in reality it was a fraudulent spoof designed to steal Bitcoin from users. Sparrow Wallet is only available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. A cloud of water larger than anything ever seen in space has turned up around one of the brightest objects in the early universe. The reservoir surrounds the quasar APM 08279+5255, a blazing source powered by a supermassive black hole more than 12 billion light-years from Earth. The scale is hard to grasp. Astronomers estimated that the water there equals about 140 trillion times the volume of Earth’s oceans. It is also the most distant water reservoir ever detected, placing it in a period when the universe was far younger than it is today. That alone made the finding unusual. What made it more revealing was the setting. The water is not sitting quietly in a cold cloud. It exists in a harsh, energized region around a black hole with a mass about 20 billion times that of the sun. Eldest sister Levita de Deus Nunes is 108 years old, four years older than her younger sister Zoraide de Deus Mota, who is aged 104. Their younger sister Zulina de Deus Nunes is also a centenarian, aged 103. The siblings were born in the rural district of Cedro de Sao Joao in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Sergipe. Daughters of Manoel and Jovelina de Deus Nunes, they grew up in a family of eight, valuing hard work, unity, discipline, and solidarity. Levita was born in 1917 and spent her youth managing the family home before moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1953. She worked behind the scenes for national broadcaster Rede Globo. Born in November 1921, Zoraide defied traditional gender norms at the time by qualifying as a primary school teacher. She later graduated from the prestigious Anna Nery School of Nursing. Total global defense spending also reached a record $2.6 trillion, signaling a major shift in geopolitical priorities. Using data from the International Institute for Strategic Studies, this visualization, via Visual Capitalist’s Dorothy Neufeld, ranks the 15 countries driving this surge in military spending. While the U.S. still operates on an entirely different scale, the biggest shift is happening in Europe, where countries are no longer just maintaining military capacity but expanding it significantly. The $2 Trillion Arms Race: Defense Spending by Country The U.S. defense budget reached $921 billion in 2025, larger than the combined military spending of China, Russia, Germany, the UK, India, Saudi Arabia, France, and Japan.
