Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) faced a serious dilemma in today’s (23 July) episode of Coronation Street. During a disastrous dinner party, where she decided to challenge the pair over their ‘infidelity’, a flashback revealed the truth to viewers. Actress Elizabeth Rider is returning to Coronation Street this summer. The star, who has appeared in Line of Duty, Sister Boniface Mysteries and Call the Midwife, also has an impressive wealth of soap roles under her belt. She’s appeared in four different Casualty, Holby City and The Bill roles, three in Emmerdale, and one each in EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road. Rider also had a recurring part as DCI Lynette Roberts in Doctors between 2009 and 2017. From August to October 1999, she played Kathleen Gutteridge, the biological mother of Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) on Corrie. This week, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) will finally come face-to-face once more in Coronation Street. Last week, Betsy suffered two strokes in the ITV soap as part of a wider storyline that will explore the devastating, life-altering reality of a non-fatal strangulation on the character, which happened as part of consensual sex between Betsy and Dylan, with both parties believing that the pressure applied was minimal.
