Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) is in quite a predicament in Coronation Street.
She’s facing spending the rest of her life behind bars for the murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), a death that could’ve been prevented if she climbed down from the scaffolding that he was atop of, and hadn’t listened to the vile comments that he was making about her and his husband Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).
Instead, enraged and infuriated with the justice system, Sarah clobbered him around the head with a metal pipe and sent him flying over the edge.
Terrified about the consequences that would undoubtedly follow, she summoned ex-boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North) to the scene of the crime in the hope he could help.
The pair have been keeping the secret under their hats for months, something which infuriated Sarah’s copper boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) when he found out. You’d have thought his biggest issue would be the fact his girlfriend was a killer, but no – Kit wished that he was the one she’d have called in her hour of need.
Although he was pretty sure that the spotlight was firmly on Gary, even Kit couldn’t have foreseen the clothes that Sarah wore on the night of Theo’s death still being held in an evidence bag at the station. He rushed over to try and retrieve them, but it was too late.
His colleagues had already smashed their way into Sarah’s flat and arrested her.
In today’s episode, despite protesting her innocence, DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) struggled to believe her. With no explanation for how Theo’s blood had appeared on her clothing, they would have no option but to charge her.
Swain also warned Kit that their superior, McLaughlin (Michelle Tate), suspects he was helping to protect Sarah. If he valued his career, he would effectively have to throw her to the wolves to prove that he was innocent.
Later, in the cell, Kit broke some bad news to Sarah. He said that once she was charged, it would be likely that she’d be held on remand until her trial and therefore wouldn’t get home.
He also advised to claim that the death was called by acting in self-defence, and to dob Gary in for helping her cover it up.
What will Sarah do, and is this the end of Gary’s freedom?
