‘Maury,’ ‘Ricki’ and End of Daytime Talk Shows for TikTok, Reality TV

‘Maury,’ ‘Ricki’ and End of Daytime Talk Shows for TikTok, Reality TV

In August 2019, Sholonda was back in the studio for the 19th time to film for Maury — but this time, she wasn’t the one who would run. She received the typical boos and thumbs-downs from the studio audience at the Rich Forum in Stamford, Connecticut when the host revealed how many times she’d graced the daytime talk show’s stage to air her personal drama. But she quickly won them back, earning a wave of cheers when it was announced she had recently lost 150 pounds. But Sholonda was about to get a slap in the face. Before she even stepped onto the set that journalist-turned daytime talk show host Maury Povich used for the final 14 years of his 31-season run, the audience had learned that her husband, Tyrell, and daughter, Deanna, were having a shocking secret affair — and that Tyrell was claiming to be the father of Deanna’s toddler. A challenge to the family dynamic, to say the least. Throughout the now-infamous segment, Povich encouraged Sholonda to “let it all out” as …

Coronation Street and EastEnders icons in first look for daytime TV thriller

Two soap icons are set to unite in upcoming drama Number One Fan – which is coming soon to 5 – and Radio Times can exclusively reveal a first look trailer for the series. The show is set within the world of morning television, and stars former EastEnders actress Jill Halfpenny and Coronation Street legend Sally Lindsay as TV presenter Lucy Logan and her somewhat intense fan Donna respectively. The trailer – which you can find below – begins with Lucy signing off from one of her broadcasts by saying: “That’s it for today, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Without you, there is no show.” We then cut to Donna speaking to her outside, telling her: “Oh my gosh, it is you. I watch Lucy Logan Live every day. I’m your number one fan.” Soon, Lucy has invited her into the studio to watch them record an episode, but it doesn’t take long before she confesses that “Donna’s starting to creep me out” – which isn’t altogether surprising given she’s leaving …

Why aren’t Lorraine or Loose Women on ITV today? Daytime schedule changes explained

Why aren’t Lorraine or Loose Women on ITV today? Daytime schedule changes explained

ITV’s daytime schedule is undergoing a major shake-up affecting both Lorraine and Loose Women with bosses citing budget cuts. In the last episode of Loose Women on Friday 6 March, Kaye Adams confirmed the daytime staple would be off the air for some time. It comes as part of a wider schedule shake-up which sees the long-running ITV show cut from running year-round to a 30-week seasonal schedule. Episode lengths were also cut in half from an hour to only 30 minutes, meaning the show has effectively lost over 70 per cent of its previous yearly airtime. Loose Women was initially removed from air to make room in the daytime schedule for the 2026 Cheltenham Festival which ran from March 10 to 13 but will now remain on its scheduled break before returning next month. The chat show Lorraine is also receiving the same treatment, reducing to a 30-week seasonal schedule and episodes cut to 30 minutes. It is also now on its scheduled break and will return at some point in April. Neither show …

6 daytime habits that may help you sleep better at night, according to science

6 daytime habits that may help you sleep better at night, according to science

Much of the advice about improving sleep focuses on what to do shortly before you go to bed. Turn down the lights, stop scrolling, keep your bedroom cool, close your curtains. Those are all great strategies, said Joseph Dzierzewski, senior vice president of research and scientific affairs at the National Sleep Foundation. But many of the choices we make during the day are just as important for sleep as those we make at night, he said. 1. SOAK IN THE MORNING SUN Getting sun exposure within one hour of waking up can have a powerful effect on your sleep later that night, said Dr Indira Gurubhagavatula, a professor of sleep medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. The light suppresses hormones that make you sleepy and shifts your body into wake mode, setting you up to be tired again by bedtime, Dr Gurubhagavatula said. Ideally, we’d all get out in the sun for an hour every morning, Dr Dzierzewski added, but that’s not always possible. “You might have to get creative,” he …

MS NOW shakes up daytime lineup; Ana Cabrera to exit

MS NOW is making sweeping changes to its daytime programming, moving hosts Stephanie Ruhle and Alicia Menendez to new time slots. The changes include the departure of Ana Cabrera, who told viewers about her plans Wednesday. Cabrera joined MS NOW — formerly MSNBC — from CNN in 2023. Chris Jansing, the current noon Eastern host, will become chief political reporter. Stephanie Ruhle is the new anchor for MSNBC’s “The 11th Hour.” (MSNBC) The moves announced by MS NOW President Rebecca Kutler are aimed at improving daytime ratings on the network, which changed its name from MSNBC after being spun off from Comcast into a new company called Versant. MS NOW has seen improved ratings in prime time with opinion programming since the network was re-branded in November. The politically progressive-leaning network will have hosts with a point of view in the daytime hours as well once the programming changes take effect in June. In a memo to staff obtained by The Times, Kutler said the daytime programming will “still be rooted in hard news.” Ana …

NBC’s ‘Access Hollywood’ is canceled as daytime TV audiences shrink

NBCUniversal is cutting “Access Hollywood” and several other of its daytime talk shows, effectively ending its first-run syndication business as daytime television atrophies. The company confirmed that “Access Hollywood,” and its counterpart “Access Live,” will be coming to an end in September. The shows, produced in Los Angeles, are currently hosted by Mario Lopez, Kit Hoover, Scott Evans and Zuri Hall. Talk shows “Karamo” and “The Steve Wilkos Show,” produced out of NBC’s facility in Stamford, Conn., are also shutting down. The programs have already completed their production for the season and will run through the summer. NBC previously announced that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is also ending later this year after seven seasons. “The Steve Wilkos Show” ran for 19 seasons. The host is a former bouncer for “The Jerry Springer Show.” Francis Berwick, chairman of Bravo and Peacock unscripted, said in a statement that the company will continue to distribute library episodes of its talk programs and network shows such as “Law & Order.” But NBCU’s days of launching series for daytime and …
