Known by friends and colleagues as a “planetary patriot,” a “happy warrior” and the “Golden State Eco-Warrior,” Rob Caughlan, a political operative, savvy public relations specialist and one of the early leaders of the Surfrider Foundation, died at his home in San Mateo on Jan. 17. PARIS, Jan 21 : French prosecutors are investigating Paris St Germain and France defender Lucas Hernandez and his partner following allegations of human trafficking and illegal employment by a Colombian family, a judicial source said on Wednesday. They pair denied any wrongdoing, saying they acted with good faith and kindness but had been manipulated. The probe, opened by the Versailles prosecutor’s office, concerns accusations that the family of five was employed without legal status between September 2024 and November 2025, according to the plaintiffs’ lawyer Lola Dubois. The Colombians, who performed babysitting and security roles, had no days off and sometimes worked up to 82 hours a week, Dubois told Reuters. Jan 11 : Former Arsenal defender Pablo Mari has joined Al-Hilal from Serie A side Fiorentina, the Saudi Pro League leaders announced on Sunday. The move will bolster Al-Hilal’s defence, with Kalidou Koulibaly still away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. Mari played 16 games with Fiorentina in all competitions this season. “Al-Hilal have signed a contract with Spanish defender Pablo Mari to join Al-Hilal from Italian club Fiorentina on a six-month contract, with an option to extend for another year,” the Saudi club said in a statement. Man City defender Gvardiol to undergo shin surgery
Jan 5 : Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol will undergo surgery on a shin injury this week, the Premier League club said on Monday. The 23-year-old Croatian was substituted early in the second half of Sunday’s 1-1 home draw against Chelsea. “The defender will have surgery later this week and assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis,” City said in a statement. City are second in the table on 42 points, six behind leaders Arsenal. Their defender Ruben Dias also went off due to injury in the Chelsea match and England centre back John Stones is sidelined too.
