Longtime correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi expects to depart ’60 Minutes’ as big changes loom

Sharyn Alfonsi, the longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent who clashed with CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss over a story on Trump White House immigration policies, said Wednesday her contract is not being renewed. “Over the weekend, my contract with CBS News expired, drawing to a close nearly twenty years with the network, including more than a decade at ’60 Minutes,’” Alfonsi, 54, said in a statement to The Times. “Following an intense editorial dispute over our CECOT story, repeated attempts by my representation to establish a path forward were met with absolute silence from network executives,” she added. “The message could not be clearer: my time at 60 Minutes is apparently over.” CBS News declined to comment on Alfonsi’s remarks. Her contract expired this past weekend but she remains employed at the division on an “at will” basis, which means she can be terminated at any time, according to people familiar with the discussions. Producers who worked with Alfonsi have been assigned to other correspondents. Alfonsi made her comments as the “60 Minutes” staff anticipates significant …

Buffalo AKG Art Museum Director Janne Sirén to Depart After 13 Years

Buffalo AKG Art Museum Director Janne Sirén to Depart After 13 Years

Janne Sirén, the director of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in Upstate New York, will depart his post in October after more than a decade, opening up yet another top role at a US art institution. Sirén oversaw the museum as it expanded dramatically in 2023, adding another building to its campus that doubled the AKG’s square footage. The expansion, which cost $230 million, was well-received, both within the art press and by locals, who flocked to the museum. The AKG reported that, in the year following the reopening, the museum received 340,000 visitors, a record for the institution. Related Articles But Sirén’s leadership has more recently come under scrutiny in the local Buffalo media. His departure was announced by the museum nearly three months after the Buffalo News reported that he had used a museum loan to help finance his $710,000 home. The Erie County Comptroller’s Office alleged that Sirén had failed to pay off the museum’s loan, leading one representative to say she was “not sure why.” The Buffalo News reported that the …

Grey’s Anatomy legends confirmed to depart series after 18 years

Grey’s Anatomy will say goodbye to two of its longest-serving stars, as Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd are set to leave the hit medical drama in its upcoming season 22 finale. Raver and McKidd – who play fan favourites Dr Teddy Altman and Dr Owen Hunt – will bow out when the final episode airs on Wednesday 7 May on ABC in the US. The pair have been central to the show for nearly two decades, with McKidd joining in season 5 in 2008 and Raver arriving in season 6 before becoming a series regular in 2010. Their characters’ on-off relationship – which saw them meet as Army majors in Iraq before eventually marrying in season 18 – has been one of the drama’s most enduring storylines. Despite a turbulent recent chapter, which saw Teddy and Owen divorce after a failed attempt at an open marriage, there are hints the duo could still get a happy ending. Series creator Shonda Rhimes teased as much, saying it was “both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple …

MCA Chicago Director Madeleine Grynsztejn to Depart After 18 Years

Madeleine Grynsztejn, one of the key figures of Chicago’s art scene, will leave her post as director of the city’s Museum of Contemporary Art at the end of the year, bringing to an end an 18-year-long tenure that has seen a range of celebrated retrospectives and a dramatic expansion of the institution’s collection and operating budget. In a phone interview, Grynsztejn pointed out that next year will mark the MCA’s 60th anniversary, and said that she felt it was time to step aside and allow someone else to take up her mantle. ‘CBS Mornings’ Executive Producer Shawna Thomas to Depart Network

Shawna Thomas, executive producer of CBS Mornings, is leaving the program as the new owners of Paramount are expected to reshape the network. Thomas has headed the morning show for the past five years and will step down at the end of March. Senior broadcast producer Jon Tower will run CBS Mornings on an interim basis once Thomas departs.  The news comes a day after anchor Gayle King renewed her deal to remain as co-host of CBS Mornings, after speculation about her future at the network under the new leadership of editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and president Tom Cibrowski. The show had been co-anchored by Nate Burleson, who was also confirmed to stay on with the show Wednesday, and Tony Dokoupil, who left the program to move to CBS Evening News.  In a memo to staff, Thomas did not cite an exact reason for departing the network, but said that it was a decision she had been thinking about for some time.  “I’ve had the privilege of helping to make 10 (now 12!) hours of television …

Did Alibaba just kneecap its powerful Qwen AI team? Key figures depart in wake of latest open source release

Did Alibaba just kneecap its powerful Qwen AI team? Key figures depart in wake of latest open source release

Alibaba’s Qwen team of AI researchers have been among the most prolific and well-regarded by international machine learning community — shipping dozens of powerful generalized and specialized generative models starting last summer, most of them entirely open source and free. But now, just 24 hours after shipping the open source Qwen3.5 small model series—a release that drew public praise from Elon Musk for its “impressive intelligence density”—the project’s technical architect and several other Qwen team members have exited the company under unclear circumstances, raising questions and concerns from around the world about the future direction of the Qwen team and its focus on open source. The departure of Junyang “Justin” Lin, the technical lead who steered Qwen from a nascent lab project to a global powerhouse with over 600 million downloads, alongside two fellow colleagues — staff research scientist Binyuan Hui and intern Kaixin Li — marks a volatile inflection point for Alibaba Cloud and its role as an international open source AI leader. These three Qwen Team members announced their departures on X today, …
