Olivia Rodrigo Slams 'Deeply Disturbing' White House Deportation Video Using Her Song

Olivia Rodrigo at an Oscars after-party earlier this year Olivia Rodrigo has said she was “disturbed” to see Donald Trump’s administration using her videos to soundtrack a video montage of ICE deportations on social media. Last year, the White House and Department of Homeland Security shared a joint post on Instagram warning undocumented immigrants to leave the US or “face the consequences”, while Olivia’s song All-American Bitch was playing. “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,” the Good 4 U singer wrote underneath the post at the time, in a now-deleted comment, which she was asked about during an interview with Dazed published on Thursday. “It was so deeply disturbing to see that propaganda, and the fact it was my song in there made me feel even more enraged,” the Grammy winner lamented. “What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel. I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK.” The White House’s video is still live, though it’s worth pointing out that the former Glastonbury …

British ‘mafia boss’ Steven Lyons kidnapped by law enforcement, lawyer claims, after capture in Bali and deportation to Amsterdam | UK News

Lawyers for one of Europe’s top “mafia bosses” have accused law enforcement of “kidnapping” the fugitive as part of an international underworld extradition saga. Steven Lyons, the alleged head of the infamous Lyon crime clan based in Scotland, is accused of running a global criminal empire involving money laundering, drug trafficking and shifting millions through shell companies. He attended an extradition hearing in Amsterdam on Thursday after being deported from Indonesia under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Spanish authorities. Extraordinary pictures from Bali captured Lyons, who they branded a “mafia fugitive”, being paraded by Indonesian authorities in an orange prison suit and handcuffs. Spain has no extradition treaty with Indonesia meaning he was sent to the Netherlands as part of the process. Today’s hearing, which was filmed by Sky News, marks a critical turning point in a years-long international investigation into what police claim is a multi-million-euro empire operating across Europe and the Middle East. What happened in court? While the Amsterdam proceedings focused solely on whether Lyons can legally be handed over to …

The Last Stop in the Deportation Pipeline

The Last Stop in the Deportation Pipeline

Early one morning behind the airport in La Lima, Honduras, before the first planeload of deportees landed, Sister Idalina Bordignon was meeting with her staff about an unsettling situation. Every day, parents were arriving without their children, and they were asking questions like What do I do if I don’t know where my child is? and Do I lose my rights as a parent if I’m deported? An American aid worker suggested a quick analysis of each case to determine which agencies or nonprofits might help the families. We’ll never have time for all this, Idalina thought. The Trump administration was sending too many people to Honduras too quickly, and soon the reception center that she oversees would be packed with more than 100 people who were exhausted, hungry, and in shock. They would need to be processed into the country as quickly as possible to make room for the next planeload. Shackled to a seat on one of those planes was a 39-year-old single mother named Claudia. After she emerged from the reception center …

Listen live: Supreme Court weighs Trump bid to curtail deportation protection program

The Supreme Court on Wednesday morning will consider the Trump administration’s efforts to curtail the Temporary Protective Status (TPS) program, which offers protections against deportation for noncitizens who cannot safely return to their home countries for a variety of reasons. President Trump, as part of his immigration crackdown, is looking to terminate TPS for 13… Source link

Brighton beach rapist housed in 3-star hotel after ‘murder conviction’ | UK | News

A small boat migrant convicted of raping a woman on Brighton beach had arrived in Britain after fleeing a murder conviction in Egypt, it has emerged. Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, was among three men found guilty yesterday of raping a 33-year-old woman who was dragged behind a beach hut, pinned down, spat on and kicked in the early hours of October 4 last year. The victim said she feared the laughing attackers would kill her as she lapsed in and out of consciousness. It reportedly emerged during an earlier court appearance that Al-Danasurt had written on his asylum application that he had been convicted of murder in his absence in Egypt — a capital offence. He is understood to have claimed mistaken identity and blamed his brother for the killing. His defence barrister disputed that he had been convicted of murder. The jury had not been told of this history before his conviction at Hove Crown Court, state reports. Questions have been raised about how Al-Danasurt could have been housed in a three-star hotel in Horsham, …

Reform candidate calls for mass deportation of Muslims

Reform candidate calls for mass deportation of Muslims

Nigel Farage has been urged to drop a Reform UK candidate who called for “every Muslim” to be deported from Britain because the public cannot tell them apart from terrorists. Kate Michaela, who is standing in Adur district council, in West Sussex, on May 7, shared several offensive posts, including one that said “every Muslim must leave the UK by 2030”. The Reform candidate also shared a post by Tommy Robinson, the far-Right activist, describing Yvette Cooper, the Foreign Secretary, as a “dumb b—-” who was allowing Islam to “take over Britain”. Ms Michaela, a beauty salon owner, also reposted a Kremlin conspiracy theory that linked Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted paedophile. Social media post The Labour Party and the Conservatives have both demanded that Mr Farage remove Ms Michaela from his candidate list and stop any funding or resources for her campaign. Anna Turley, the chairman of the Labour Party, said: “The comments made by this Reform UK candidate are racist, simple as that. “For Nigel Farage and Reform …

Everything Nigel Farage’s critics get wrong about Reform UK deportation plan | Politics | News

Never mind comparisons with Donald Trump, as someone who lives in Singapore, I can confidently say nothing Nigel Farage announced yesterday would look out of place here or in the other developed democracies of Asia. Yesterday the Reform chief announced asylum claims going back years would be reviewed with the possibility of over 400,000 folks being deported. The only difference is – unlike the enfeebled countries of the West – Asia would never have got itself into this mess to start with. No ECHR here, friends. As for the 1951 Refugee Convention Reform wants Britain to leave, Singapore isn’t even a signatory. Japan is. But Japan defines a refugee so narrowly it barely takes any in. These nations have strong borders and strong law enforcement. Sod the freedom to screech like a banshee, real freedom is being able to walk alone at 3am in total safety. That you can in Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo (and, to some extent, in Budapest and Warsaw). Now try London, New York and Paris. See the difference? Tough on …

Nigel Farage Criticised Over Reform UKs Deportation Plan

Nigel Farage Criticised Over Reform UKs Deportation Plan

Reform UK has been condemned over the party’s “cruel” plan to deport hundreds of thousands of migrants if it wins the next election. Zia Yusuf, the party’s home affairs spokesman, said a Reform government would review all successful asylum claims going back five years. Anyone found to have arrived in the UK illegally or overstayed their visa would be deported, he said. As many as 400,000 immigrants would potentially be affected by the policy, according to the party. Yusuf said: “Reform will reverse the invasion of Britain. Anyone who broke into the country illegally, or came in on a visa and overstayed to claim asylum (which is almost all of them) will have their status revoked and be deported. “This is an addition to all those currently in Britain illegally.” At a press conference on Monday, Reform leader Nigel Farage said Britain was being “invaded” by illegal immigrants. The announcement comes after 602 people crossed the English Channel on small boats on Saturday, making it this year’s second busiest day for crossings and bringing the …

House passes rare bipartisan bill to protect Haitians from deportation

House passes rare bipartisan bill to protect Haitians from deportation

(RNS) — The United States House, in a bipartisan effort that highlighted Republican division over the Trump administration’s immigration policies, passed a bill Thursday (April 16) to allow Haitian migrants temporary legal protections to live in the U.S. for three years. The vote came as the government is fighting at the Supreme Court to end Temporary Protected Status for an estimated 330,000 Haitians currently in the country. The bill now goes to the Senate, and President Donald Trump said he would veto it if it reached his desk. Introduced last year by Rep. Laura Gillen, D-New York, the bill passed 224-204, with the support of 10 Republican lawmakers. The bill’s text had been stuck in the House Committee on Rules and reached the full House after 218 representatives supported a discharge petition — the first time such a rare move enabled an immigration bill to pass.  RELATED: As Springfield’s 15,000 Haitians brace for deportations, local churches train to resist ICE The Rev.
