The 56-year-old has offered a rare glimpse into her daily diet, revealing how she fuels her body while maintaining that signature glow. Her mornings begin early, often in what she describes as a “super quiet house,” where she starts the day with a French press coffee before taking her dog out. © Getty ImagesCatherine enjoys her food while keeping treats to weekends Breakfast is non-negotiable, but it changes with the seasons. In winter, she opts for a comforting bowl of porridge topped with brown sugar, bananas and blueberries. The Real-Life Diet of Joel Kim Booster, Who Loves a Fasted Workout

The Real-Life Diet of Joel Kim Booster, Who Loves a Fasted Workout

You recently got married. You’ve described your relationship in the past as “a snack-based relationship.” Tell me how that developed. The relationship or the snacking? The snacking. I mean, I’ll be frank, it’s because I’m a huge stoner. After 6 p.m., when I start smoking weed, it’s game over. I mean, part of it is I have ADHD, so I take Adderall during the day, which makes it very easy to fast until a certain point. And then I smoke weed at night, which makes it very hard to fast at a certain point. Are there any particular go-to snacks you have to have? I mean, they’re not paying me to say this, but I’m a big Thrive market user because I know that I’m going to be consuming food. So what I try to do is only have available stuff in the house that is reasonably good for you, to some degree. I am big on fried chicken skin as a low carb chip substitute, fruit leather instead of candy, protein ice cream, shit …

The American Heart Association does not want you to follow RFK Jr’s diet

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore There are nine steps heart experts say you should follow to stave off life-threatening disease – and several contradict Health Sec. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s new “MAHA” dietary guidance. While the Trump administration’s January guidelines promote eating animal meat and full-fat dairy products, new guidance released by the American Heart Association calls for more plant-based protein sources. And despite Kennedy’s pledge to end what he claimed was a “war” on protein and saturated fats, the AHA says people should still choose low-fat or fat-free dairy products and replaced saturated fats with sources of unsaturated fats, such as nuts, avocados and seeds. The new guidance is aimed at lowering Americans’ risk of cardiovascular disease and other chronic health conditions, the AHA, which is supported by 30,000 scientific, medical and healthcare professionals, said. More than half of American adults have some type of …

A diet based on ultra-processed foods impairs metabolic and reproductive health, study finds

A diet based on ultra-processed foods impairs metabolic and reproductive health, study finds

An experimental study looking into the health effects of a 3-week ultra-processed food diet found that such a diet impairs both metabolic and reproductive health compared to a diet based on unprocessed foods. The adverse effects of the ultra-processed food diet were independent of total caloric intake. The paper was published in Cell Metabolism. Ultra-processed foods are industrial formulations made mostly from refined ingredients and additives rather than whole foods. In the NOVA food classification system, they are the most heavily processed category of foods. Ultra-processed foods typically contain substances such as refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, starches, and protein isolates. They also include additives like preservatives, flavor enhancers, artificial colors, and emulsifiers designed to improve taste and shelf life. Common examples are packaged snacks, sugary drinks, instant noodles, processed meats, and ready-to-eat meals. Ultra-processed foods are usually convenient, highly palatable, and aggressively marketed. They tend to have high energy density and low nutritional quality, with limited fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Studies report that individuals consuming high amounts of these foods are at an increased risk …

The Best Diet To Help Slow Brain Ageing

The Best Diet To Help Slow Brain Ageing

And a modified version of the approach, called the Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay or MIND diet, is designed to slow brain ageing in particular. It’s been linked to a 53% lower risk of dementia among its strongest adherents, and a 35% reduced likelihood among moderate adherents. It combines the Mediterranean diet, which focuses on heart-healthy foods like olive oil, fruits, vegetables, and fish, with the blood-pressure-friendly DASH diet (high in lean proteins, lower in salt, and also rich in fresh produce). Generally, the MIND diet focuses on leafy greens, berries over other fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains, fish, and olive oil. Source link

Growing evidence suggests it may also help support brain health as we age, with a brain-focused variation of the diet drawing increasing scientific attention. It is called the Mind diet. The name stands for Mediterranean-Dash Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay – though what matters more than the acronym is what it actually involves: plenty of green vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, berries, poultry and fish, with olive oil as the main cooking fat, and limited amounts of red meat, butter, cheese, fried food and sweets. It combines the most brain-friendly elements of two well-studied eating patterns: the traditional Mediterranean diet and the Dash diet, which was originally developed to lower blood pressure. A recent analysis from the long-running Framingham Heart Study …

There are proteins that are better for you. Here’s the foods that should be in your diet

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Protein seems to be everywhere these days for Americans. It’s in your shakes, it’s in your pancakes and popcorn. Heck, it’s even in your mac and cheese. Most Americans were already getting more than enough protein in their daily diet before the craze, according to experts. It just may not all be the best kind. “While meat provides high-quality protein, some meats also provide unhealthy amounts of saturated fats and sodium,” Harvard Health says. “If you eat meat, it’s important to choose leaner meats and poultry.” Protein has garnered new interest as political figures push Americans to eat more. But some proteins, such as those from red meat, come with an increased risk of other problems, such as heart disease. Experts say Americans are getting too much protein in their daily diet – and not enough of the sources that are …

The Real-Life Diet of Joakim Noah, Who Once Put on 10 Pounds of Muscle in One Summer

The Real-Life Diet of Joakim Noah, Who Once Put on 10 Pounds of Muscle in One Summer

There are few players in recent NBA history with a more distinct spirit than Joakim Noah. With his long, often unkempt hair and beard combo, side-spin jump shot, and appreciation for knit bucket hats, the two-time All-Star left his mark on the league in more ways than one. But after officially retiring in 2021 after a hard-fought 13-year career, Noah has realized that there is much more to life than, say, trying to beat the Boston Celtics. During his pro basketball career—nine years as a fixture of the Chicago Bulls, two with his hometown New York Knicks, and brief cups of coffee with the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers—the six-foot-eleven center was known for his nonstop intensity. When that went away, as he explained, the competitive drive that once defined him took on new forms. As he felt his mental approach to life changing, Noah found BetterHelp, the online therapy provider. A legend of the college basketball scene as well (Noah and his Florida Gators squad won twin national championships in 2006 and 2007), …

Popular AI chatbots generate unsafe diet plans for teenagers

Popular AI chatbots generate unsafe diet plans for teenagers

Many teenagers trying to manage their weight are turning to artificial intelligence chatbots to generate personalized diet plans. However, a new study published in Frontiers in Nutrition reveals that these computer-generated menus often fall short on basic calories and fail to provide the proper balance of essential nutrients. Following these flawed digital recommendations could put young people at risk of nutritional deficiencies during a period of rapid physical growth. Childhood and adolescent obesity rates are rising rapidly across the globe. This condition carries immediate and long-term health risks, including a higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. Health experts typically recommend that young people manage their weight through a combination of increased physical activity, behavioral changes, and specialized nutrition therapy. Dietitians are the ideal professionals to guide this process because they design sustainable meal patterns tailored to a growing body. A trained dietitian takes into account a teenager’s developmental needs, family habits, and the school food environment. Access to professional nutritional counseling, however, is often limited by high costs …
