‘Europeans Committing Demographic Suicide’: EU Politicians Gather To Discuss Immigration Crisis

Via Remix News, Europeans are committing demographic suicide and the tools used to managed migration are failing at every level, said Rodrigo Ballester, the head of the Center for European Studies at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium. He made his remark at a recent Ordo Iuris Institute event in Warsaw, Poland, which saw European politicians, policymakers, and other important players gather to discuss a groundbreaking paper: “Taking Back Control from Brussels. The Renationalization of the EU Migration and Asylum Policies.” “As Europeans, we are committing demographic suicide. We are a continent of old rich people, facing a continent of young, hungry, and determined people — ambitious people. We’re still trying to manage migration with hopelessly outdated tools, using conventions from a century ago. They have completely lost their meaning today. In practice, I’m talking about the Geneva Convention. This is the ‘sacred cow’ we should get rid of,” Ballester emphasized. The “Taking Back Control” paper, which was recently covered by Remix News, outlines 18 ways Europe can regain control of immigration policy. Ballester emphasized that these policies need …

Six Books You’ll Have to Discuss With a Friend

Six Books You’ll Have to Discuss With a Friend

The novelist Henry Miller once observed that “a book is not only a friend, it makes friends for you.” If you’re sitting in a café, someone might strike up a conversation by asking about what you’re reading; a kindred spirit on the train might wave the same title that you’re holding; an office book club could lead to lasting friendships. Reading in public, far from being “performative,” instead marks you as belonging to a particular, enthusiastic society that recruits from all walks of life, in all parts of the world. Over the past few years, many people have been pushing to make reading social: Book-club listings on Eventbrite have grown by 24 percent, celebrities including Dua Lipa and Reese Witherspoon have invited fans to join their own circles, and book-themed social gatherings have popped up across the United States. But to properly commune over literature, you need the right book—something that excites you and makes you think. The ideal choice is fun to discuss with both friends and strangers. If you’re looking for a pick …

Papers discuss future of Ukraine after Trump’s ‘Iran gamble’ – Press Review

PRESS REVIEW – Tuesday, March 3: Papers discuss the new war in the Middle East and what it could mean for Russia’s war in Ukraine. Also: Russian independent paper Meduza analyses the narrative of Russian state TV. Finally, did Jim Carrey attend the César Awards… or was it his clone?  International papers focus on the new war in the Middle East. “Struck at its heart, Iran is choosing a strategy of chaos,” reads the headline on the front page of French daily Le Figaro. The paper says that the Iranian regime is “faced with an existential threat”, so it chose to set the Middle East “on fire”, trying to save itself. “Devastating” reads the headline on the front page of the left-wing British daily Morning Star. The paper reminds us that “Iran has long threatened to drag the region into total war” if it gets attacked. Gloria Steinem Gathered Celebrities to Discuss Masculinity. They Argued Over the Dishes

Imagine your dad throwing your birthday party. It’s a chilly Tuesday afternoon on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but here, inside Gloria Steinem’s cozy, knick-knack-filled apartment, where a guest has just shared this prompt, the atmosphere is warm. Steinem, 91, is hosting one of her occasional “talking circles,” and the topic today is masculinity. The guests include celebrities Amy Schumer, Emmy Rossum, and the Real Housewife of Atlanta Kandi Burruss, as well as zeitgeisty experts like Dr. Corinne Low, associate professor at Wharton and author of Having It All, and the tatted, media-friendly divorce lawyer James Sexton, whose Instagram @nycdivorcelawyer boasts nearly half a million followers. Steinem’s living room before guests arrive. Photos by Jamie Pearl. The group laughs—even scoffs—at the idea of one’s dad organizing a birthday party. And why shouldn’t they? How many of us imagine a comedy of errors: last-minute invites, lackluster decorations, nonexistent party favors. The idea of this exercise, of course, is to illustrate how domestic duties usually fall on moms, while dads often fumble the basics (or worse, …

Taiwan Parliament to Discuss Stalled Special Defence Budget Next Week

Taiwan Parliament to Discuss Stalled Special Defence Budget Next Week

TAIPEI, Feb 24 (Reuters) – Taiwan’s parliament will discuss late next week the government’s stalled bill on a $40 billion special defence budget, which has been held up by opposition party objections attracting the concern ‌of U.S. lawmakers. Taiwan President Lai ‌Ching-te last year proposed the extra defence spending to counter China, which has ramped up military pressure to force the island to accept its claim of sovereignty. But the opposition, which has a majority in parliament, refused to review the proposal and instead advanced its own, less expensive proposals, which only fund the purchase of some of the U.S. weapons Lai wants. Earlier this month, a bipartisan group of 37 U.S. lawmakers wrote to senior Taiwanese politicians expressing concern about parliament stalling the proposed defence spending. Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party, the main opposition Kuomintang and its much smaller ally the Taiwan People’s Party have now agreed to schedule discussion on the government’s proposal on March 6, according to pictures of the agreement posted by lawmakers to social media. Taiwan’s parliament speaker and his …

But when it comes to-“ “I know you think it is,” Boebert shot back.  “They don’t eat babies. Democrats don’t need babies. You think they eat babies?” Maher replied. “There is a lot of consumption talk in the stuff that, no, are there babies? I don’t know. No, you can laugh all you want. But I mean, there is some sick stuff in here that is implying,” Boebert answered. “But that’s not eating babies. It’s — oh c’mon,” …
