JERA’s LNG purchase deal with US Commonwealth LNG terminated, DOE filing shows

TOKYO, April 3 : A long-term liquefied natural gas sales and purchase agreement entered into last year between Japan’s largest power generator, JERA, and U.S. LNG developer Commonwealth LNG has been terminated, according to a document filed with the U.S. Department of Energy. Last June, JERA, also Japan’s top LNG buyer, said it had signed a 20-year SPA with Commonwealth LNG for 1 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) from the developer’s Louisiana project. A notification of the deal’s termination, dated April 1, was filed on behalf of Commonwealth. The letter said the agreement was terminated effective March 3, without giving a reason. Bloomberg earlier reported the termination. JERA declined to comment, while Commonwealth LNG was not immediately available for comment. Source link

“Demand For Critical Isotopes Rising, Supply Limited”: Oklo Lands First NRC License & Another DOE Milestone

In a double dose of regulatory green lights delivered on the same day, Oklo and its wholly owned subsidiary Atomic Alchemy just notched two meaningful milestones that underscore America’s push to reclaim control over critical nuclear supply chains. *Oklo Announces DOE Approval for Nuclear Safety Design Agreement of Aurora Powerhouse at Idaho National Laboratory — zerohedge (@zerohedge) March 17, 2026 The news sent the stock flying in early morning trading.  What happened? First, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued Atomic Alchemy its inaugural materials license. The permit authorizes the company to receive, possess, process, repackage, and distribute up to 2 curies of radium-226 (material currently treated as waste) along with sealed sources of cobalt-60 and americium-241 for calibration. Operations will kick off at Atomic Alchemy’s Idaho Radiochemistry Laboratory in Idaho Falls, paving the way for initial commercial sales of recovered isotopes used in cancer therapies, medical research, advanced manufacturing, and national security applications. Oklo CEO Jacob DeWitte said, “Demand for critical isotopes is rising, but U.S. supply remains limited. This work helps create a more …

DOE Orders Diesel Generators To Be Ready As Electric Sector Prepares For Historic Winter Storm

By Robert Walton of UtilityDive Stakeholders across the U.S. electric sector are preparing for Winter Storm Fern, which is expected to impact an area stretching from Texas to New York, as far north as the upper Midwest and into parts of the Southeast. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration anticipates the storm to begin today and run through Sunday. Anticipating widespread power outages, local distribution utilities have been activating recovery plans and warning customers to be prepared. The North American Electric Reliability Corp. says it is “encouraged that industry has taken actions to prepare for what appears to be a very challenging winter storm system.” U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has asked grid operators to be prepared to utilize up to 35 GW of backup generation. In a Thursday letter to reliability coordinators and balancing authorities, Wright called for the Department of Energy to “prepare to issue orders” under section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act to “ensure that the tens of gigawatts of available backup generation, which would otherwise stand idle, is available …
