For Jenny Voisard, watching the daily antics of a bald eagle family perched above the shimmering waters of Big Bear Lake in Southern California is about togetherness as much as birdwatching.  “We’re all together as a community. We mourn together, we laugh together, we cry together. So it’s emotional and deep. It’s hard to explain in words, really,” Voisard tells Popular Science. A former corporate marketing consultant from Oregon, Voisard now works as the media manager for Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV). The non-profit is dedicated to conserving the land around Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. However, the organization is most famous for its eagles. FOBBV livestreams a pair of bald eagles named Jackie and Shadow in their nest …

Golden eagles could be reintroduced to England after more than 150 years | Birds

“The world is grown so bad that wrens make prey where eagles dare not perch.” So wrote Shakespeare in Richard III, in a line of social commentary that feels ever more relevant with age. A note of good news then, in a world of so much bad, that the eagles the Bard was probably referring to could finally be reintroduced to England after more than 150 years. The golden eagle, which was common in Shakespearean England – and which he mentioned more than 40 times, according to some scholars – has been largely absent from the country’s skies, with only a handful of pairs seen in the past 150 years. The majestic bird of prey with a 2-metre wingspan has been effectively extinct in England since the last native golden eagle is thought to have died in 2015, having lived alone in the Lake District. Their decline was largely due to centuries of persecution from gamekeepers and farmers, who viewed them as a threat to lambs and game birds. They are occasionally seen in areas …

How Jackie met Shadow: The story behind Big Bear’s famous eagles

How Jackie met Shadow: The story behind Big Bear’s famous eagles

When Big Bear’s celebrity bald eagle couple’s eggs were eaten by ravens in late January, they didn’t grieve alone. Thousands had watched Jackie and Shadow on livestream, as they meticulously arranged sticks in their nest high in a Jeffrey pine and nibbled each other’s feathers in preparation for laying. All seemed just dandy until both eagles left their nest unattended, and ravens swooped in. Fans recently faced more heartbreak: Last month, Sandy Steers, executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley, which operates the nest camera, died at 73 after a private battle with cancer. Sandy Steers, the late executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley, trains her binoculars on a pair of nesting bald eagles at Big Bear Lake in 2018. (Irfan Khan / Los Angeles Times) Losing Steers, and the eggs, unleashed an outpouring. Facebook posts announcing the tragic events received more than 12,000 comments. “Her stories just were so calming,” said Jenny Voisard, media and website manager for Friends of Big Bear Valley, they “would just bring you to the nest.” …

Eagles Move on From OC Kevin Patullo After One Lackluster Season With Him Calling Plays

Eagles Move on From OC Kevin Patullo After One Lackluster Season With Him Calling Plays

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles are moving on from offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. The Eagles (11-7) lost OC Kellen Moore after winning the Super Bowl in 2025 — Moore took the head job in New Orleans — and turned to Patullo to maintain familiarity and continuity for quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Patullo had been the Eagles’ passing game coordinator since 2021. But the in-house move failed to pan out. Philadelphia seemed out of sync most of the season, finishing 24th in total offense at 311.2 yards a game and 19th in scoring at 22.3 points a game. “I met with Kevin today to discuss the difficult decision,” Sirianni said in a statement. “He is a great coach who has my utmost respect. He has been integral to this team’s success over the last five years, not only to the on-field product but behind scenes as a valued leader for our players and organization. “I have no doubt he will continue to have a successful …

Eagles’ Season-Long Issues Apparent in Playoff Loss to 49ers, Sideline Spat Between Sirianni, Brown

Eagles’ Season-Long Issues Apparent in Playoff Loss to 49ers, Sideline Spat Between Sirianni, Brown

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A.J Brown dropped a third-down pass and was slow to get off the field when coach Nick Sirianni chased down the moody wide receiver on the sideline. Brown and Sirianni bickered in a sideline spat that quickly forced chief security officer Dom DiSandro to intervene. Brown ripped off his helmet in frustration and yelled more in Sirianni’s direction — perhaps he could have used a good book — after the Eagles punted to end a drive. Brown had nothing to say after the game – stay tuned for another possible cryptic social media post – his locker stall soon as empty as the offseason that awaits last season’s Super Bowl champions. The Eagles were ultimately doomed in a championship repeat bid by another uninspired offensive output – the drops piled while the total yards failed to reach explosive heights – and they lost 23-19 to the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC wild card game Sunday. Just trash littered the field after the game – courtesy of an unrelenting wind that threw …

Trump’s Post About Fallen ‘Eagles’ Embarrassingly Features A Totally Different Bird

Trump’s Post About Fallen ‘Eagles’ Embarrassingly Features A Totally Different Bird

President Donald Trump on Tuesday made a fowl suggestion in a post to his social media platform as he claimed that windmills “are killing all of our beautiful Bald Eagles” alongside a picture of a dead bird beneath a wind turbine. But the photo depicts a falcon killed by a wind turbine in Israel, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which published the image in 2017. The wind turbine in the picture, seemingly a screenshot from Google Images, clearly features writing in Hebrew. The president’s embarrassing suggestion on Truth Social arrived in a series of posts that renewed his war on renewable energy. Over the years, Trump has falsely claimed that windmills cause cancer, referring to them as “big, ugly suckers” and simply declaring that wind power is “bullshit” and “a hoax” last year. Trump posted a photo claiming it shows a bald eagle in the United States killed by a windmill. In reality, the image is of a dead falcon in Israel from 2017. pic.twitter.com/CequYzpH21 — MeidasTouch (@MeidasTouch) December 31, 2025 The president has …
