It’s not a revision of the old version,” Wilson told the Associated Press, adding that she was already “about halfway through”. Wilson’s first translation, published by WW Norton in December 2017, was the first complete English translation of The Odyssey by a woman. It became a major bestseller, selling more than a million copies, and was particularly praised for its contemporary, accessible English, and for matching the number of lines in Homer’s Greek original. Nolan later cited Wilson’s version as an influence on his adaptation, particularly its opening, “Tell me about a complicated man”. Released in July 2026, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus …

Blunt will be feted at a black-tie gala dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara — a fundraiser for SBIFF’s year-round educational programs — on Thursday, Dec. 10. Emily is set to say a final adieu. Netflix has confirmed that the sixth and final season of Emily in Paris will premiere on Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December 2026, drawing a close to the globe-trotting fashion comedy-drama that turned Lily Collins’s Emily Cooper into a streaming phenomenon. The season is currently in production in France, and creator and showrunner Darren Star has promised the show’s most expansive outing yet, with the action moving well beyond Paris. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Star said: “I wanted the final season to feel like the biggest Emily in Paris experience yet. Fox News co-host Emily Compagno is jumping from the network’s daytime chatfest “Outnumbered” to join “The Five,” the most-watched program on cable news. The conservative-leaning news network announced Monday that Compagno will fill the seat vacated last year by Jeanine Pirro, who left “The Five” in May to join the Trump administration as interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia before her Senate confirmation three months later. Compagno will be on daily starting Sept. 8 alongside fellow co-hosts Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino and Jesse Watters. Emily Watson has been a friend of the Sarajevo Film Festival since its inception. She was here in the Bosnian capital at its 2nd installment in 1996, only a year after the siege had ended, with Lars von Trier’s Breaking the Waves. Led by Watson and Swedish superstar Stellan Skarsgard, playing a married couple in 1970s Scotland, the film would go on to earn the British star her first Oscar nomination. Ten years later, in 2006, Watson returned to the festival with her six-month-old daughter. I first got lost in the mesmerizing world of an Emily St. John Mandel book when I read Station Eleven in 2021, back when we were still adjusting to life amidst COVID-19. It was cathartic to read a pandemic story during a pandemic. Mandel’s beautiful, affecting writing moved me in ways that left behind a permanent impression. It’s been four years since her last release, but we’re finally getting a new book from the author. Emily St. John Mandel’s highly anticipated book, Exit Party, publishes on September 15th. It’s a book her U.S. editor, Jenny Jackson, describes as “heady and intellectually rigorous, but poignant and emotional,” noting the “incredibly high EQ that permeates Emily’s books.” This is exactly how I’d describe Emily St. John Mandel’s works. Days after a classicist who translated Homer’s “The Odyssey” in 2017 eviscerated the Christopher Nolan film based on the poem, Joyce Carol Oates has entered the debate. She’s Team Nolan. The National Book Award-winning author is known for her (sometimes controversial) hot takes on social media, and on Wednesday, she stepped up to the plate in opposition of translator Emily Wilson’s brutal takedown of Nolan’s big-screen adaptation of “The Odyssey.” Nolan had previously said Wilson’s translation inspired him in making the film. But Wilson wrote that she would be ashamed to have written any part of the script. “Her tone of dismissal & haughty superiority strike a sour note,” Oates said of Wilson’s review in a post on X. “Rather than disagreeing with interpretations of Homer in a collegial manner, this person, who has benefited enormously from Nolan’s film, speaks in the crude language of MAGA folks attacking someone with ideas that differ from hers.” Wilson’s biting missive, published in the London Review of Books this week, went so viral that it reportedly crashed the …
