Think you know your England World Cup history? These 25 facts prove you wrong

England have made it no secret that they are hunting history in North America, in what is their first major tournament under Thomas Tuchel. The Three Lions hired the German coach, a proven winner, with one task in mind: ending 60 years of hurt by winning the World Cup this summer. Outside the 1966 win, England’s long history on the sport’s greatest stage has been a story of heartbreak, disappointment and near-misses. But even so, it remains the pinnacle for fans of the national team, many of whom may well consider themselves experts on our trials and tribulations at the World Cup. Think you know your England men’s World Cup history? Radio Times brings you 25 facts that may just prove you wrong… 1. England did not enter the first three World Cups The Three Lions were absent from the 1930, 1934 and 1938 as they were not a member of FIFA at the time. Think you know Sex and the City? These 11 facts will prove you wrong

Think you know Sex and the City? These 11 facts will prove you wrong

We can’t be the only ones in a committed, long-term relationship with Sex and the City, eternally mid-rewatch. But, to paraphrase Charlotte, how well do we ever really know the TV shows we sleep with? Here are 11 fascinating facts – including a number of revelations from the stars themselves – about one of the most beloved and iconic series of all time. How many did you already know? 1) Sex and the City nearly had a Kennedy in its first sex scene Christopher Lawford. hoto by Greg Doherty/Getty Images The first scene of the first episode of Sex and the City introduces us to (dubiously accented) English journalist Elizabeth (played by Australian actress Sarah Wynter), who moves to New York and falls swiftly in love with an investment banker. Cue the show’s first sex scene as well. Played by Scott Bryce in the series, this role was, however, originally destined for someone very different: JFK’s nephew, Christopher Lawford. In fact, Lawford (All My Children), the son of British actor Peter Lawford and JFK’s sister Patricia …

Boosting Facts and Busting Myths about Mythbusting

Boosting Facts and Busting Myths about Mythbusting

Misinformation is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. The World Economic Forum has even identified disinformation (false or misleading information spread intentionally to deceive or harm others) as the foremost global threat, shaping public perception, eroding trust, and influencing policies (Ecker et al. 2024). Yet despite growing awareness, common misunderstandings and mistakes in mythbusting persist. Well-intentioned mythbusting is not necessarily effective mythbusting. In some cases, attempts to correct misinformation can even backfire, unintentionally amplifying falsehoods rather than dismantling them. Research shows that once misinformation takes hold, it can be highly resistant to correction (Walter and Tukachinsky 2020; Lewandowsky et al. 2020). Even professionals engaged in educational research, science communication, and media fact-checking risk inadvertently reinforcing misinformation if their approach does not align with the latest psychological and cognitive research. So, how can we bust myths without making them stronger? This article identifies six common myths about mythbusting and explains how to avoid some pitfalls. Instead of relying on intuition, mythbusting should be grounded in evidence-informed strategies, such as the fact-myth-fallacy-fact approach (Lewandowsky …

Five faith facts about the 2026 NBA Finals

Five faith facts about the 2026 NBA Finals

(RNS) — Sport competitions often prompt the most pious fans to see divine favor and religious meaning in the performance of their chosen teams and athletes. This year’s NBA Finals, pitting the New York Knicks against the San Antonio Spurs, are no exception. The Knicks, who had been on a winning streak since April 23 until the Finals’ third game, would end a 53-year championship drought if they claimed the championship title by winning one more of the remaining playoff games. That alone has inspired many to see the team as specially anointed this season. The Spurs, who won the championship in 2014 and are now down 3-1 to the Knicks, have received support from a now viral group of Catholic nuns known as the “Spurs nuns.”  Here are five faith facts about this year’s NBA Finals:  The Catholic university graduating (potential) NBA champions Three Knicks players — Jalen Brunson, the team’s captain; Josh Hart; and Mikal Bridges — graduated from Villanova University, a private Augustinian college in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The trio’s ties …

Labour ‘hiding facts’ on civil servants at Iranian embassy celebration | Politics | News

Labour is accused of covering up details about Government officials attending an Iranian embassy event to mark the anniversary of the 1979 revolution despite the regime slaughtering thousands of protesters. Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel is angered the Foreign Office has refused to disclose the rank and number of officials who attended the event. She has also demanded answers about whether the taxpayer-funded staff raised concerns about the “slaughter of civilians” at the embassy gathering on February 12. The Government’s own assessment of the killings in Iran states: “The estimated number of deaths, predominantly of protesters, numbered between approximately 12,000 and 20,000 by mid-January 2026.” Dame Priti told the Sunday Express: “It is outrageous that officials attended an event celebrating the Iranian revolution just weeks after the regime slaughtered tens of thousands of brave protesters. The least Labour could do is apologise and explain how this was allowed to happen. Instead, they have stonewalled our questions and tried to keep the facts hidden. As usual with Labour, they are running scared of scrutiny. The …

The truth about cooking oils: 14 essential facts for healthier, cheaper meals | Food

The world of cooking oils is confusing. I keep spotting new ones on supermarket shelves, trumpeting their health claims. Cold-pressed avocado oil, extra virgin macadamia oil, organic coconut oil, premium hemp seed oil … Even familiar oils are mired in controversy. Is it OK to cook with olive oil? Should you avoid seed oils? Meanwhile, prices keep rising – earlier this month, Walter Zanre, the CEO of Filippo Berio UK, said supermarkets were “taking the mickey” out of customers over olive oil pricing. I asked the experts which oils are really worth splashing out on. What are the main differences between cooking oils? “All oils contain a combination of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats,” explains Lisa Howard, the Detroit-based author of The Big Book of Healthy Cooking Oils. Where they differ is in their ratio, which may be shown on the label (although in most countries only total fat and saturated fat is mandatory). Howard holds up three bottles of oil. “They’re all 14g of fat in total [per tablespoon]. The olive oil has 11g …
