Meghan Markle Takes a Page from Princess Diana’s Fashion Playbook

This very ’90s look—sleeveless, with a pencil cut and round neckline—is reminiscent of the “office siren” fashion trend. Although colorful, the dress and accessories are sober and uncluttered. Markle opted for softness: her Akris gown is a slightly lighter shade than Diana’s. Princess Lilibet, budding stylist Behind this decision was a very special stylist: Princess Lilibet. The dress worn by the Duchess of Sussex had been approved by her daughter, Lilibet. In an Instagram post on May 17, Markle revealed her preparations for her trip to Switzerland. The Duchess of Sussex took a selfie in her dressing room mirror surrounded by colorful dresses and black pumps. At her feet, the young princess, captured from behind, helped her mother pack her bags: “Mama’s little helper,” Markle wrote in the caption. For the Sussexes, purple is no longer just the color of royalty, but also a family affair. Originally published in Vanity Fair France. Source link

Joan Collins, 92, channels cowgirl in cropped tasselled jacket at Chelsea Flower Show

Dame Joan Collins  proved that cowgirl chic has a place at the Chelsea Flower Show as she attended the annual RHS gardening event on Wednesday. The Dynasty actress, 92, stepped out to view the Lady Garden Foundation’s Silent No More Garden while donning a fabulous neutral ensemble. The standout element of Joan’s look was her cropped suede jacket, which featured tassels on the front and sleeves. She also added a cowgirl hat and a printed necktie for a full country and western aesthetic, but infused it with her own signature style by adding oversized sunglasses. © Dave Benett/Getty ImagesDame Joan Collins visited the Lady Garden Foundation’s Silent No More Garden Cowgirl chic at Chelsea Flower Show Under the jacket, the Land of the Pharaohs actress slipped on a V-neck linen blouse, and she also wore off-white cigarette trousers and loafers with gold hardware. How Former Fashion Designer Emma Safir Turns Fabric into Painting

How Former Fashion Designer Emma Safir Turns Fabric into Painting

What might it take to tackle the en-slick-ification of the art object? Emma Safir’s answer to this question arises from her embrace of the sensory capacities inherent in textiles and an eagerness to place oppositional strategies and gestures into new formations and dependencies. The results are works of great mystery and manipulation, each one a reflection on the elusive and ambiguous correspondences between the handcrafted and the digitally (re)produced.  A former fashion designer and experienced printmaker, Safir harnesses her intimate knowledge of clothing, traditional embroidery techniques, and decorative ornamentation in a complex and embodied practice of art-making in an era wrecked by shallow consumption and political decadence. Uninterested in the stagnant hierarchical divides between fine and decorative art, craft-based and digital processes, Safir seeks a framework for addressing the fight against commodification by engaging techniques and strategies from across media (photography, printmaking, and handiwork, most specifically) and histories of mark-making (such as puncturing, stitching, and, at times, digitally altering). Everlane Sold to Shein. Was It Ever Going to Make Fashion Better?

Everlane Sold to Shein. Was It Ever Going to Make Fashion Better?

At the same time, I think it’s fair to ask if consumers have become more cynical about the idea that fashion companies can sell them “sustainable” products, and I think that cynicism is earned because of the exaggerated claims of the industry. Can you elaborate on those exaggerated claims? [There is] the absence of standards for what constitutes a sustainable garment, the challenges that [sustainable business non-profit] Cascale or [sustainability data platform] Worldly had with their calculations of what constitutes a sustainable garment, the overselling by the industry of targets for decarbonization that weren’t ultimately achievable, and the pullback now in investment by many companies in their sustainability teams. What is causing the pullback of investment in sustainability teams? It depends on a company by company basis, because some companies are probably accelerating their spend as others are pulling back. But in general the environment, especially in the United States, has become less conducive to investing in sustainability for a number of reasons: (1) the current administration’s disdain for science and the environment; (2) the …

Jonathan Andic, Eldest Son of Mango Fashion Chain Founder, Arrested In Father’s Death

Jonathan Andic, Eldest Son of Mango Fashion Chain Founder, Arrested In Father’s Death

On Tuesday, Jonathan Andic, the eldest son of the late founder of global Spanish fashion brand Mango, was arrested by the Mossos d’Esquadra—the police force of Spain’s Catalonia region—in connection to the death of his father, Isak Andic. Prior to his arrest, Jonathan Andic, who currently serves as the vice chairman of Mango’s board, had been under investigation for months in the case which was initially assumed to be nothing more than an accident. The investigation into Isak Andic’s death has also focused on the relationships between Isak Andic’s children and heirs and Andic’s partner, the golfer Estefania Knuth, as well as on the management of the company. Here’s timeline of the case so far: December 14, 2024 Isak Andic died at the age of 71 when he fell to his death in the Collbató caves in Barcelona’s Montserrat mountain while on a hike with Jonathan. Jonathan called the emergency services, who certified Isak’s death. The Mossos d’Esquadra took Jonathan’s statement two days later, on the 16th, and treated the case as an accident. At …

Queen Mary’s ‘refined nod’ to SS26’s hottest trend – with Victoria Beckham outfit

Queen Mary’s ‘refined nod’ to SS26’s hottest trend – with Victoria Beckham outfit

Queen Mary of Denmark epitomised elegance on 19 May for a presentation of grants from The Queen Mary Scholarship. King Frederik‘s wife, 54, was seen wearing a powder blue and cream look that perfectly flattered her skin tone and hair colour.  The star of the sartorial show was Mary’s blouse, the ‘Twisted Silk Crepe De Chine Top in Sky Blue’ style by Victoria Beckham, as identified by Royal Fashion Police on Instagram. It featured billowing sleeves and a keyhole detail that elevated it from simple workwear to something sophisticated and worthy of a royal outing. Accessorising a Victoria Beckham piece It was paired with a cream A-line skirt by Day Birger et Mikkelsen, which skimmed the knee and was cinched with Mulberry’s skinny ‘Pimlico’ belt to further accentuate the fit and flare silhouette.  For her shoes, the Queen chose the ‘Ellipsis 105’ pumps from Gianvito Rossi, which came in a neutral snake print, and rounded off the look with blue jewellery – the Pomellato ‘Veleno Earrings in Chalcedony’ and the ‘Luna’ ring, as well as …

Jess Cartner-Morley on fashion: Posh Grandpa is fashion’s new main character | Fashion

Welcome to the season of the Posh Grandpa, fashion’s newest main character. We’ve had Brat, we did Coastal Grandma, we loved Tomato Girl Summer. The world is pretty heavy right now, as you’ll have noticed, so any opportunity to lighten up is precious. The nonsense is the point. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. There is infinitely more joy in these looks, however silly they are, than there is in aspiring to look rich and pretty, which is where the aesthetic centre of gravity of our culture swings back to again and again. The esoteric sides of fashion’s personality capture something important about style, which is that it needs a bit of friction to make it interesting. The pebble in the boot, the surprise to snag the eye. This is where the magic happens. I am all in with Posh Grandpa dressing, and not just for the lols, although …

I believed sustainable fashion’s hype. But between Everlane and Allbirds, the letdowns keep coming | Fashion

I believed sustainable fashion’s hype. But between Everlane and Allbirds, the letdowns keep coming | Fashion

It was always about the money, wasn’t it? For a while there, it seemed like the execs opining sustainability is not a trend, it’s the future actually meant it. But when yet another global brand drops its net zero goals or stops talking about DEI, you do wonder. Recent headlines include Stella McCartney adulterating her eco gloss with a sustainable capsule collection for H&M – don’t worry, she’s just “infiltrating from within” – and Lululemon being investigated for Pfas. The letdowns keep coming. Now the internet is reeling from a report that Shein plans to acquire Everlane, the San Francisco-based sustainable basics brand built on “radical transparency”. Shein is the Chinese ultra-fast fashion giant epitomising murky supply chains and crazy-cheap landfill fashion. They release up to 10,000 styles a day, and have been making headlines of their own over secrecy and alleged links to forced Uyghur labour. Fashion reporter Lauren Sherman reported the acquisition plans this week, though neither Shein nor Everlane have confirmed. Everlane appears to be losing money fast. After layoffs in 2020 …
