The singer and actress, 38, made her first appearance at the event in 21 years, and she arrived looking every inch the star that she is. Hilary looked incredible in a silver metallic Rabanne gown that skimmed her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit-worthy physique. On Friday, the ultrafast-fashion giant Shein finalized its acquisition of Everlane, a US clothing retailer that made its name by promising “radical transparency” into how its clothes were made. Neither company disclosed the price of the deal, but Puck reported last weekend that it clocked in at $100 million. Founded in 2010, Everlane became synonymous with a certain strain of millennial consumerism that was supposed to be the exact opposite of Shein. It mainly sold elevated basics, and told a generation of anxious and high-minded shoppers that they could feel morally good about buying yet another pair of plain ballet flats or black high-waisted skinny jeans. Shein, by contrast, became notorious by flooding the internet with astonishingly cheap, trendy clothing produced at enormous scale. It has been criticized for years for alleged poor labor practices. Given how differently Shein and Everlane positioned themselves, many people online felt the acquisition fell somewhere between darkly ironic and outright dystopian. In the music video for her recent single Drop Dead, pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo saunters beguilingly through the ornate rooms of the Palace of Versailles, her eyes fixed on the camera. It is an all round soft-girl production, shot by Petra Collins who captures a hazy teenage aesthetic close to a carbon copy of Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film, Marie Antoinette. But when the video aired last month, it was met with instant backlash online – not for her halting tourists from visiting the world heritage site for the day, but for Rodrigo’s Pinterest-inspired, pastel blue, babydoll ensemble. When Demna took over Times Square for his first Gucci cruise show this week, he clarified his intentions for reviving the brand: Gucci should be everything, everywhere, all at once, coming at you 24/7 in 8K and surround sound. He called the show “GucciCore,” and even from the livestream, the spectacle was awesome: a smirking Tom Brady garbed as a Gucci’d down leather daddy; Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian, and Lady Bunny seated front row; 50 screens blasting ads for fake Gucci products.
