In broadcasting terms, it was certainly that – a project of unprecedented scope and patience, exploring the lives of 14 people from disparate class backgrounds at seven-year intervals, from childhood up until the age of 70. For the bulk of its run, the “experiment” was steered by documentarian Michael Apted, a researcher on the original Seven Up! who directed every entry from 7 Plus Seven (1970) through to 63 Up (2019). Since Apted’s death in 2021, directorial duties have passed to Asif Kapadia, the Oscar-winning director of profile documentaries Amy and Senna. 70 Up, the final entry in the series, finds the surviving participants mostly retired, in a mode of hyperopic reminiscence. Split over two feature-length episodes, it almost has the feel of a clip show; most …

The Russian-born Kazakh’s icy composure on the grand stage helped her snap Sabalenka’s 20-match winning streak at Flushing Meadows on Saturday, denying the Belarusian the chance to emulate Serena Williams and Chris Evert with three straight New York titles. An ankle injury had threatened to derail Rybakina’s campaign even before the tournament started, but the 27-year-old shrugged off those concerns to add the US Open title to her Australian Open triumph this year and Wimbledon success in 2022. The ‌‌title showdown at Arthur Ashe Stadium had all the ingredients of a classic between the top two in the rankings, and though Sabalenka brought …

USA edge Spain to book Women’s Basketball World Cup final against France | Basketball

Published On 12 Sep 202612 Sep 2026 The United States will take on France in the final of the women’s basketball World Cup after scraping to a 76-66 semifinal win over Spain in Berlin. Underdogs Spain, whose best-ever result was reaching the 2014 final against the Americans, levelled the scores at 58-all at the end of the third quarter against the defending champions on Saturday. But the experience of the 11-time champions told in the final period as USA outscored their opponents by 10 to seal victory. Led by 16 points from Breanna Stewart and 13 from Kahleah Copper, USA extended their winning streak at the tournament to 35 matches, a run that dates back to a semifinal defeat by Russia in 2006. Sunday’s clash with France will be a rematch of the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal match, which the Americans won by just one point. “That’s over, you know what I mean? We won that game and that game is over, and this is a completely new game tomorrow,” Stewart told reporters when …

US Women Are Back in the FIBA World Cup Final After a Gritty 76-66 Win Over Spain

BERLIN (AP) — The U.S. women are in a familiar spot — playing for another FIBA World Cup championship. Getting to a fifth consecutive title game was a little harder than the previous few, as they beat Spain 76-66 on Saturday in the semifinals. The Americans had averaged winning the previous four semifinals by 26 points, including a 40-point rout of Canada in 2022. The Americans will face France in a rematch of the 2024 Paris Olympic gold-medal game that the U.S. won by a point. “I think it’s two great teams going to go head-to-head,” said Kahleah Copper, who had 13 points in the win against Spain. “You know I’m excited for the matchup. I’m excited for us to be able to compete.” The U.S. has won 35 straight games in the World Cup going back to a loss to Russia in the semifinals in 2006. Now the Americans are one win away from a fifth consecutive tournament title. That would match the former Soviet Union for the most consecutive championships. After cruising through …

Read One of Yayoi Kusama’s Final Unpublished Interviews

Yayoi Kusama, who died last month, was among the world’s most famous artists, her reach extending far beyond the realm of museums and galleries, both because of the work she made and the way she saw the universe all around her. She was most beloved for her “Infinity Mirror Rooms,” jewel-box installations that dazzle the eye, extending one’s perception and immersing the viewer in an unending abyss of pure beauty and total wonderment. She made the first one, Infinity Mirror Room—Phalli’s Field, in 1965, but these installations didn’t bring her global renown until decades later, during the 2010s. Her 2012 Tate Modern retrospective was perfectly timed, since Instagram was first becoming popular when the show opened and seemingly everyone wanted to post the mind-bending photos that are possible in an “Infinity Mirror Room.” Related Articles Almost overnight, Kusama became not just an art world star but a worldwide icon. People lined up then—and continue to do so now—just to stand in an “Infinity Room” for a few seconds at a time. A 2017 survey of …
