AI compute provider Nscale is looking for .5B in pre-IPO financing

AI compute provider Nscale is looking for $3.5B in pre-IPO financing

Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company founded just two years ago, has said it may go public as early as later this month. Ahead of that expected IPO, the company is reportedly in talks to raise an additional $3.5 billion. Bloomberg reported Friday that the company is looking to sell $1.5 billion in convertible notes — a type of loan that can later convert into company stock — to a group of investors, while also seeking an additional $2 billion in financing from Nvidia. Nvidia also participated in the firm’s Series B funding round in March, a $1.1 billion raise led by investment fund Aker. Nscale hailed its round as “the largest Series B in European history.” The company’s Series A round, in December of 2024, raised $155 million. TechCrunch reached out to Nscale and Nvidia for comment. AI infrastructure startups have seen immense growth amid the current era of AI enthusiasm, wherein compute has become a competitive currency. Nscale recently signed a large deal with Anthropic worth approximately $45 billion. Earlier this week, reports …

Nvidia in talks with OpenAI to guarantee $250 billion financing for data center, WSJ reports

July 26 : Nvidia is in talks to provide roughly $250 billion in financing guarantees for OpenAI as part of a massive data center project, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.  The backstop from Nvidia would help the ChatGPT maker lease a 10-gigawatt project that SoftBank’s energy subsidiary is developing in southern Ohio, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the matter. For OpenAI, a deal would be the first step toward controlling its own infrastructure instead of renting it from Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle, while for Nvidia, it would guarantee demand for its chips for years to come. The project is expected to cost more than $500 billion in total, including the chips inside the data center, according to the WSJ. The $250 billion guarantee covers the data center lease and debt financing, but would not cover the Nvidia chips inside the center, the WSJ said, adding that the chipmaker was also discussing financing OpenAI’s chip purchases worth up to $350 billion. Nvidia’s backing would support financing vehicles aimed at reassuring lenders about …

Apple Closes Unlocked iPhone Loophole for T-Mobile and Verizon Financing

Apple Closes Unlocked iPhone Loophole for T-Mobile and Verizon Financing

Carrier-financed iPhones purchased from Apple will soon be locked to the carrier, ending a workaround customers used to purchase an unlocked iPhone on a payment plan. Until the rule change, buying an iPhone from Apple and opting for financing through Verizon or T-Mobile meant you would get an iPhone not locked to either carrier’s network. That’s no longer the case, and now iPhones financed through Verizon or T-Mobile will not be able to be used with a different network. AT&T-financed smartphones were always locked to the AT&T network. Apple’s new policy was highlighted on Reddit after a user saw a new “Will my iPhone be unlocked?” FAQ item. In most cases, yes. An iPhone purchased from Apple is unlocked. Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any carrier that provides service for iPhone. However, if you choose to finance an iPhone through the AT&T Installment Plan, T-Mobile Equipment Installment Plan, or Verizon Device Payment Program, your iPhone will be locked to the carrier until paid in …

Wall Street banks see AI ‘super cycle’ set to boost deals, financing

Wall Street banks see AI ‘super cycle’ set to boost deals, financing

NEW YORK, July 14 : A rush by technology companies to fund AI infrastructure is boosting dealmaking and financing activity for Wall Street, bankers said on Tuesday, generating lucrative fees from capital raising and loans. Investment banks have reaped strong fees from AI-related deals, including SK Hynix’s $26.5 billion ADR offering and SpaceX’s record $86 billion initial public offering, as well as debt issuance.   But July has been rough for technology stocks, especially microchip makers, as investors wrestle with high valuations and question the longevity of the AI capex boom. ‘MULTI-YEAR CYCLE’ “The build-out of AI infrastructure remains in its early stages, and we believe this multi-year investment cycle will continue to drive elevated levels of strategic activity, financing, and capital formation across markets,” Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said during an earnings call. Solomon added that the industry “is in the middle of an AI capex super cycle” where there are demands to utilize every single financing instrument. Goldman Sachs was the lead left underwriter on the SpaceX IPO, and is also poised to …

Phases 1 and 2 combined will add 1.63 gigawatts (GW) of solar and 1.9 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery storage to the regional grid. When all three phases are complete, Steel River is expected to deliver 2.45 GW of solar and 2.9 GWh of battery storage by 2029. Steel River will use 100% US-made structural steel, with nearly all sourced from Mississippi County, Arkansas, and domestically manufactured solar panels from First Solar. It’s expected to create around 700 construction jobs onsite. Police in Haiti Arrest Lawmaker Arnel Belizaire, Who Faces Charges Including Terror Financing

Police in Haiti Arrest Lawmaker Arnel Belizaire, Who Faces Charges Including Terror Financing

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Authorities say they have arrested Haitian legislator Arnel Belizaire, who faces charges including financing terrorism and conspiracy against state security. Haiti’s National Police made the announcement late Sunday, ending a hunt for the well-known lawmaker, who was first accused around two months ago. Belizaire previously characterized the arrest warrant against him as political intimidation. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney. The U.S. government already had accused Belizaire of “significant corruption” last year, announcing that he and his immediate family members were blocked from entering the United States. Belizaire was arrested in the early 2000s on an illegal weapons charge and sentenced to prison. He escaped and was rearrested, only to escape again following Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake. He was elected to Haiti’s parliament in 2011 and then rearrested when police noted that he had escaped during the earthquake. He was subsequently released following political pressure. Belizaire was arrested again several years ago, after being accused of arms trafficking, but those charges were dropped. Copyright 2026 The Associated Press. All …
