Woman who fled genital mutilation in Togo deported by U.S.

The 28-year-old began to panic when she learned where the military cargo plane, newly departed from a tarmac in Louisiana, was taking her. The United States was deporting her and 13 other West Africans to Ghana, a country none of them called their own. From there, she feared, she would be sent on to neighboring Togo, the home she had fled to avoid genital mutilation. Source link

Dine, dash, caught – Woman fled Sambuca restaurant without paying £91 bill

A dine-and-dasher fled a popular Northumberland restaurant having racked-up a £91 bill after feasting on food and booze. Tracy Dimmick, who has a previous conviction for smuggling drugs into HMP Northumberland for her nephew, ran out of Sambucas, in Cramlington, without settling the bill. However, the 49-year-old was easily identified from CCTV, arrested and brought before the courts in March. She pleaded guilty to making off without payment and was fined and ordered to pay compensation. This week, it emerged that, just prior to that offence, Dimmick had also stolen a total of £46-worth of goods from Morrisons, in Blyth, after targeting the store twice in six weeks. Keith Laidlaw, prosecuting at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court, said the offences happened in August and September last year. Mr Laidlaw continued: “The witness works at Morrisons in Blyth and, on August 4 at 12.20pm and September 26 at 1.30pm, he identified the defendant in the shop because she’s a regular offender. “She was in the store on both occasions and stole £16-worth of razor blades on …

Man packed suitcase and fled Gran Canaria after ex-partner’s actions on first night

A man “had to flee” Gran Canaria after his ex-girlfriend battered him on the first night of their ill-fated holiday. Alisha Lloyd bit and repeatedly punched her former partner after he took exception to her speaking to another male during a drinking session on the Spanish island, their relationship having ended around two weeks prior to the trip abroad. The teenager was even said to have ripped part of her estranged boyfriend’s t-shirt off with her teeth during the prolonged assault and had him turfed out of their hotel when she wrongly told security staff she had been the victim. Being left “scared for his safety”, he then packed his bags and flew home “to get away from her”. Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday, Wednesday, that Lloyd, of Byron Close in Huyton, had been in a relationship with Calum Wignall between February and June of last year. Prior to their split, the couple had booked a 10-day holiday to Gran Canaria and decided to continue with their travel plans together. Matthew Dixon, prosecuting, described how …

My Family Fled the Iranian Revolution. In the West’s War for “Freedom,” I See Another Crusade.

My Family Fled the Iranian Revolution. In the West’s War for “Freedom,” I See Another Crusade.

Last weekend, Iran, one of the world’s oldest, most storied civilizations, was attacked by two countries: the US, which adorably is about to celebrate its 250th anniversary; and Israel, which is younger than Liza Minnelli. I woke up on the first day of the war to the news that dozens of schoolgirls as well as their teachers and parents had been killed that morning by an American Tomahawk missile targeting a nearby Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps compound in the southern Iranian city of Minab. I’ll admit I had never heard of Minab. Learning that it was in the south of the country, my thoughts turned to my father’s sister Roksana, a retired human rights attorney, who lives in the south. It turns out that Ahvaz, where she resides, is a great distance away from Minab, which provided me and my family some measure of assurance while my father tried to get in touch with her. Calls and messages weren’t getting through, a newly familiar problem ever since the Iranian authorities started restricting internet and phone …

He fled to Spain after making £2m – now he has finally been caught

A dealer who was involved in supplying more than £2m worth of heroin and cocaine escaped to Spain in an attempt to evade justice. Kertis Johnson, 41, utilised EncroChat to communicate with an upstream supplier based in Merseyside, alongside a co-conspirator and a downstream courier. He saturated South Wales streets with kilograms of cocaine, which he bought and sold on to other dealers. Cardiff Crown Court heard on Monday that the defendant was involved in the supply of 72kg of cocaine between October 2019 and June 2020. Operating under the EncroChat alias BrownVelvet, Johnson was involved in the multi-kilo shipment of cocaine into South Wales. Messages later discovered on his phone revealed the organised crime group used stash houses and cars with hidden compartments in order to conceal the drugs. It was also revealed that Johnson was involved in supplying between 1kg and 2kg of heroin during the same period, reports WalesOnline. The messages showed the defendant had instructed couriers to deal drugs in and around Cardiff, including Ely and Dinas Powys. There were also …

This is a locator map for Yemen with its capital, Sanaa. AP hide caption toggle caption AP CAIRO — Yemen’s main separatist group and its institutions will be dismantled effective Friday, the group’s secretary-general said, following weeks of unrest in areas of southern Yemen and a day after its leader fled to the United Arab Emirates. Abdulrahman Jalal al-Sebaihi said the Southern Transitional Council would shut down all of its bodies and offices inside and outside Yemen, citing internal disagreements and mounting regional pressure. But that decision was contested by the council’s spokesman, Anwar al-Tamimi, who said on X that only the full council, under its president, can take such steps — highlighting the internal divisions within the separatist movement. Yemen has been mired for more than a decade in a civil war that involves a complex interplay of sectarian and tribal grievances and the involvement of regional powers. The Iran-aligned Houthis control the most populous regions of the country in the north, including the capital Sanaa. Meanwhile, a loose regional coalition of powers — …

The Truth About Venezuela Under Socialism, From Those Who Fled It

Authored by Troy Myers via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours), DORAL, Fla.—Zarai Maza survived a torched vehicle and a horrific car crash after peacefully protesting the Venezuelan regime, an unacceptable act in her home country, where speaking out could cost you your life or those of your family members. (L–R) Accountant Carlos Higuerey, human rights advocate Zarai Maza, and political activist Daniel Tirado all fled Venezuela and now live in the United States. Though they come from different walks of life, they all say the Maduro regime persecuted them and their family members, prompting them to flee. Courtesy of Carlos Higuerey, Zarai Maza, Daniel Tirado She said she believes that the Venezuelan dictatorship was trying to kill her over her activism. “They started the persecution against me in 2014, and it lasted until 2017,” Maza said. “They made three assassination attempts against my life, and after the last one, I was in the hospital. I couldn’t remember anything.” Holding back tears, Maza said the last encounter started off as a normal taxi ride. She recalled …
