Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the treatment of detained Gaza flotilla activists by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir “not in line with Israel’s values and norms”, after a video of Ben-Gvir taunting the detainees sparked international outcry. However, while “extremely embarrassing” for the Israeli government, there has been little in the way of reprimand for Ben-Gvir, says France 24’s Noga Tarnopolsky. Source link

Netanyahu Scolds Israeli Security Minister for Releasing Videos Taunting Detained Flotilla Activists

Netanyahu said that although Israel has every right to stop “provocative flotillas of Hamas terrorist supporters,” the way National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir dealt with the activists was “not in line with Israel’s values and norms.” Ben-Gvir released videos Wednesday showing him walking among some of the approximately 430 detainees. In one, activists with their hands tied behind their backs are kneeling, their heads touching the floor inside what appears to be a makeshift detention area and on the deck of a ship. “Welcome to Israel, we are the landlords,” says Ben-Gvir, waving a large Israeli flag. One handcuffed activist shouts “Free Palestine” as Ben-Gvir walks by and is immediately pushed to the ground by security personnel. In another video, Ben-Gvir says the activists “came here all full of pride like big heroes. Look at them now,” while appealing to Netanyahu to grant him permission to imprison them. Israel’s leader calls for quick deportation of activists “I say to Prime Minister Netanyahu, give them to me for a long, long time, give them to us …

US imposes sanctions on Gaza flotilla organisers amid Israeli crackdown | Gaza News

The United States has imposed sanctions on four activists for their involvement in the flotillas trying to break Israel’s siege on Gaza, alleging without evidence that organisers of the vessels are trying to reach the Palestinian territory “in support of Hamas”. The sanctions on Tuesday come as the Israeli military continues to intercept the latest fleet of Gaza-bound ships. International activists have been sailing towards Gaza in an effort to defy the blockade and show solidarity with Palestinians. “The pro-terror flotilla attempting to reach Gaza is a ludicrous attempt to undermine President Trump’s successful progress toward lasting peace in the region,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement on Tuesday. “Treasury will continue to sever Hamas’ global financial support networks, no matter where in the world they …
