A major UK airport has suffered yet another water outage, which furious passengers have claimed as led to toilets and restaurants being closed. Passengers travelling at Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal have complained of the water outage, with many reportedly “turned away from restaurants”. The outage has been caused by a burst water main, which has affected the supply to the airport. The disruption comes just weeks after a similar water outage left the airport without running water, functioning toilets or access to bars. On July 26, a power failure at a water treatment plant in south-east England triggered low water pressure and supply problems at the airport. A spokesperson told The Sun: “We have a burst water main which is temporarily affecting supply including to Gatwick Airport. “Our teams are on site and working to repair the burst as quickly and safely as possible. Gatwick Airport has warned that it’s facing a fuel shortage amid the busy summer holiday season. The UK’s second-largest airport issued a notice to pilots, telling them to fill up at other airports where possible, The Sun reports. It stated: “Gatwick has a shortage of fuel for the next two days. Please uplift max possible fuel at outstations.” Another “emergency” alert added that airline bosses should be prepared for “potential disruption to the Gatwick fuel supply”. Long-haul flights are understood to be the worst affected, as pilots will have to stock as much fuel as possible at foreign destinations without exceeding weight limits. A source told The Sun: “Most flights beyond 2.5 hours will still need extra fuel in Gatwick. Rail passengers were left stranded at Gatwick Airport after the discovery of sink holes caused train lines to be suddenly halted. Network Rail said engineers were carrying out planned engineering work on the lines outside Purley, when they came across several sinkholes requiring “urgent repairs”. The rail operator added that all lines between Purley and East Croydon were immediately shut down to protect passenger safety, ahead of an inspection from a structural engineer. Network Rail stated: “Sink holes were spotted on the bridge, meaning that ballast, the stones that the track sits on, was falling through the gap, making the track unstable.
