Apple Stores Said to Lose Video Walls, Regain Dedicated Genius Bars

Apple Stores Said to Lose Video Walls, Regain Dedicated Genius Bars

Apple is working on a sweeping retail overhaul that would bring back dedicated Genius Bars to its stores, carve out new spaces for order pickup and Today at Apple classes, and do away with oversized video walls, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. In this week’s “Power On” newsletter, Gurman said that Apple intends to speed up store renovations over the coming years. Apple plans to rework the “Avenue,” its term for the side sections of a store where accessories and services are displayed, reinstate standalone Genius Bars, and remove the large video screens installed in many locations. Pickup and Today at Apple, which typically share a counter and a seating area today, will each get their own compact section along the Avenue, described internally as a “bay” and measuring about 10 feet across. For pickup, Gurman described plans for an all-wood bay with a faint Apple logo worked into the upper section, with lockable drawers underneath for holding customer orders, fronted by a counter where staff can hand items over. The Today at Apple bay …

Courteney Cox Chose to Direct ‘Evil Genius’ After Beverly Hills Run-In

Courteney Cox Chose to Direct ‘Evil Genius’ After Beverly Hills Run-In

Fans may have the Beverly Hills Hotel to thank for Courteney Cox’s newest project.  The Friends alum revealed that she was approached about directing Evil Genius, her first feature film as a director in 12 years, after accidentally running into Barbara Schroeder, who directed the Netflix documentary of the same name, at the iconic hotel in Beverly Hills.  “I was at the Beverly Hills Hotel sitting at the counter; my favorite spot in the corner. I saw [Schroeder], and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I love Evil Genius. You did such a great job,’” Cox said at The Hollywood Reporter’s Studio at 1 Hotel during TIFF, presented by sponsor Canada Goose. “She said, ‘It’s available to direct.’ She goes, ‘You should run with it.’ We had a good relationship before. … I made a lot of deals there [at the Beverly Hills Hotel], and made a lot of money there. It’s just interesting.” Cox jokingly added that those deals were always “at the counter”: “I can’t get inside the poker room.”  Cox’s chance encounter …

Hawking by Graham Farmelo review – the dark side of genius | Biography books

Hawking by Graham Farmelo review – the dark side of genius | Biography books

When I wrote an unadoring review of Stephen Hawking’s final book, a collection of essays published posthumously in 2018, New Scientist suppressed some of my criticisms on the grounds that it was “too early” to voice anything other than praise for the physicist who died, aged 76, that March. It was apparently still too early in 2021, when no British publisher would touch Charles Seife’s exposé of Hawking’s bullying and self-aggrandising behaviour, Hawking Hawking. In this new biography, veteran science writer Graham Farmelo takes a different approach. It is a comprehensive and accessible portrait of a brilliant scientist and an extraordinarily determined man who also possessed deep personal flaws to which the scientific community and the public mostly turned a blind eye. The uncomfortable but unavoidable truth is that Hawking’s overweening ambition and self-promotion, his repeated failure to acknowledge the work of others, his sexism and controlling behaviour were largely ignored because of his disability. I think it is indeed going to take us years to process that. As this book was authorised by the …

The Gentleman star breaks silence on ‘genius’ Meghan Markle move | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Hugh Bonneville, the Downton Abbey star who is playing aristocrat Lord Hawthorne in Netflix’s The Gentlemen, addressed reports that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex would be starring in the new series. She had been linked to a role in season three of the crime drama shortly after she and Prince Harry announced plans to return to Britain. However, subsequent media reports suggested the proposal had been dropped amid a “backlash” to the speculation. Series co-writer and executive producer Matthew Read pointed out that show creator Guy Ritchie has “a great tradition of casting people from unexpected places”, adding that the level of interest in potential cast members demonstrated how invested audiences have become in the show. While Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito said someone with such a high profile could be “a great plus or a great negative”, Hugh dismissed the reports. Instead, the actor took an amused view, calling claims thatt Meghan would join the series as “a genius piece of marketing by whoever just dreamt up that idea.” “I’d suggested Keir Starmer for the …

Milton Avery, the Genius Colorist Who Shaped Rothko

Milton Avery, the Genius Colorist Who Shaped Rothko

The evolution of European modern art can be explained as a story of susceptible young people falling under others’ spells and then asking, What can I do with this? How can I convert it to my purposes? What’s remarkable is how often the main chapters of this story have unfolded in coastal or mountain retreats. Think of Claude Monet on the Normandy coast, wrestling with the influence of his mentor Eugène Boudin. Or Henri Matisse staying in Saint-Tropez with his mentor Paul Signac, before breaking with Signac’s neo-impressionist style and co-inventing fauvism. Or Pablo Picasso, goaded into radicalism by the latest bizarre creations of Matisse, retreating to the Spanish mountain village of Gósol and, mere months later, beginning work on his proto-cubist masterpiece, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. All of these key episodes happened in agreeable resorts, seaside ports, and villages, far from the sophisticated cities assumed to have been the cauldrons of modernism. Modern art in America is no different. Its story can scarcely be told without reference to artists summering on the Atlantic Coast, including …

Apple Testing New ‘Live Notes’ Feature at Genius Bar

Apple is testing a new AI-powered “Live Notes” feature that can transcribe conversations between Genius Bar employees and customers at some of its stores, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. The system is currently opt-in, meaning it is only active if both the employee and customer agree to use it. “The transcript is then added to the employee’s iPad as part of the record of the repair session,” he said. “The goal is to save workers time and let them focus more on the customer, rather than taking notes throughout the appointment.” Popular Stories iPhone 18 Pro Launching in Two Months With These 12 New Features It is now mid-July, and that means the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now just two months away. I turned my phone into an Android TV remote for free – here’s why it’s genius

I turned my phone into an Android TV remote for free – here’s why it’s genius

Jack Wallen/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Bluetooth Remote is the simplest TV remote app I’ve used. This app is free, well-designed, and reliable. Never worry about a lost remote or dead batteries again. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve picked up a new TV remote and thought, “Well, this is poorly designed.”  Or, just the other day, I realized the AAA batteries in my TV remote were dead… and I had no spares lying around. Given the state of smart TVs, there are no physical buttons that allow you to turn the TV on/off, navigate the menu, and enjoy a bit of mindlessness. When that happened, I grabbed my phone, hoping I could find a remote app that would work. My search led me to Bluetooth Remote. I was skeptical. I’d tried remote apps for various TVs before, but never seemed to locate one that was able to either connect to my television or work with any ease or reliability. Also: The best TVs of 2026: …
