The award-winning, best-selling young adult romantic fantasy novel, published in 2018, is the first in Adeyemi’s Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. It tells the tale of the heroine Zélie Adebola as she attempts to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha after the ruling class suppresses the class of magic practitioners. In 2022, Paramount Pictures announced it had won a bidding war for the rights to adapt the book. The film, which features an ensemble cast of Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba and Regina King, was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood from a screenplay co-written by Adeyemi. The first trailer for the much-anticipated big screen adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi‘s bestselling novel Children of Blood and Bone has been revealed, and in it we get a proper look at the all-star cast in the Africa-set fantasy drama. Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s film stars a veritable Who’s Who of Black British and American actors including Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Damson Idris, Lashana Lynch, Amandla Stenberg, Tosin Cole, Viola Davis and the lead of the film, South African actress Thuso Mbedu. Children of Blood and Bone is based on Nigerian-American writer Adeyemi’s 2018 debut novel, and the first book in her Legacy of Orïsha trilogy, which became a The New York Times bestseller. Set in an alternate history pre-colonial West Africa, the book follows the story of Zélie Adebola (Mbedu) as she attempts to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha, following brutal oppresion by the cruel and ruthless King Saran (Ejiofor). Tomi Adeyemi is sharing her feelings about Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming feature adaptation of her YA novel Children of Blood and Bone. The author took to social media to address any fans of her work who may have wondered why she has not recently been promoting the film version that hits theaters Jan. 15, 2027. Adapting Adeyemi’s best-selling 2018 debut novel, director Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s movie stars Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Regina King, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Viola Davis. Adeyemi serves as executive producer and is credited for writing the screenplay with Prince-Bythewood. In a TikTok video that she posted Saturday, Adeyemi included an screenshot of her message to unidentified recipients that read, “There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work.
