Born in 2001 and 2000, respectively, Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are part of the cast of the new series created by Ryan Murphy, an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s acclaimed novel The Shards. According to both of them, despite having a few mutual friends, they had never met before being cast in this project. Seeing them together is inevitably striking: The supermodel’s daughter and the actor’s son are now colleagues on set, confirming that if the world is small, Hollywood is even smaller.
After all, the world of The Shards is also elite and seemingly perfect: We’re in 1980s Los Angeles, among upper-middle-class teenagers, ambiguous friendships, and mysteries ready to shatter any sense of balance.
Homer Gere, after a brief appearance in Euphoria, plays Robert Mallory, the charming new student who arrives at the exclusive school attended by the protagonist Bret, bringing with him an aura of mystery.
Kaia Gerber, meanwhile, plays Susan Reynolds, Bret’s childhood friend, a character inspired by Bret Easton Ellis himself in this semi-autobiographical version of the story. A complex bond will develop between Susan and Robert, suspended between attraction, complicity, and secrets that will ultimately put everyone to the test.
