Swatch’s New Gold MoonSwatch Solves the Problem of the Nightmare Royal Pop Launch

Swatch’s New Gold MoonSwatch Solves the Problem of the Nightmare Royal Pop Launch

Ever looking to underline its space-faring pedigree, Omega has again joined forces with Swatch to release another limited-edition MoonSwatch featuring Omega’s proprietary 18K Moonshine Gold alloy. But whereas previous special versions only had a sliver of the shiny stuff, this new model doesn’t hold back, featuring a dial, hands, crown, and pushers all made from Omega’s 18K Moonshine Gold alloy, with a combined weight of 11 grams. Called the Mission to the Moon 1969, the watch commemorates the Apollo 11 moon landing on July 21, 1969. It’s limited, rather appropriately, to 1,969 numbered pieces and comes in a black-and-gold version of Swatch’s upgraded rubber MoonSwatch straps. Photograph: Courtesy of Swatch Swatch says the gold used for these limited-edition pieces dates from around 1969, coming from old Omega spare parts that have been melted down in the company’s own foundry. In 1969, 11 grams of 18K gold apparently cost $11, so Swatch decided to price the gold in this MoonSwatch based on the price of gold on July 21, 1969, instead of today’s gold price. This …

US Prosecutors Credit Gold Trader in Iran Sanctions Case With Key Help Ahead of Sentencing

US Prosecutors Credit Gold Trader in Iran Sanctions Case With Key Help Ahead of Sentencing

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. prosecutors are seeking leniency at next-week’s sentencing of a Turkish-Iranian businessman who admitted to helping Iranians and their government evade sanctions and who provided key testimony at a 2017 corruption trial that strained relations between the U.S. and Turkey. The prosecutors said Monday in a sentencing memorandum to a New York federal judge that international gold trader Reza Zarrab provided substantial help to the U.S. when he revealed paying millions of dollars in bribes to government and banking officials in Turkey and provided key testimony at the December 2017 trial. His testimony preceded the conviction of Turkish banker Mehmet Hakan Atilla and a sentence of over two years in prison for the banker. After the trial, Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the verdict “scandalous.” In a presentence memorandum, prosecutors wrote that Zarrab’s October 2017 guilty plea to conspiracy, bank fraud and money laundering charges and the cooperation that followed had been “truthful, complete and reliable” and significant, useful and timely. They also noted that he had suffered “danger or …

2,000-Year-Old Gold Rings Found in Thailand by Human Bones

2,000-Year-Old Gold Rings Found in Thailand by Human Bones

An archaeological dig in western Thailand turned up a pair of gold rings in the vicinity of human bones. As reported by the Associated Press, one of the rings bears script that reads “pusarakhitasa,” which means “the one protected by Pushya.” Written in Bhrami, an ancient Indian system of writing, the allusion to Pushya refers to “one of the most auspicious zodiac signs in Indian astronomy,” according to the Thai government’s Fine Arts Department. The other gold ring is bare. Experts have theorized that the rings, discovered at the Don Yai archaeological site about 80 miles southwest of Bangkok, were owned by a merchant of the ancient Indian caste known as the Vaishyas. They were found as part of a dig that followed the discovery of ancient bronze drums nearby. “The site was dated to a late prehistoric era in Thailand, a period of human settlement also known as the Iron Age, established to be around 1,500 to 2,500 years ago,” according to the AP. Other finds from there include eight human skeletons, jewelry, pottery, …

Farage Has Been Paid £270,000 To Promote A Gold Bullion Dealer

Farage Has Been Paid £270,000 To Promote A Gold Bullion Dealer

Nigel Farage was paid £270,000 to promote a gold dealer, it has been revealed. The latest register of MPs’ financial interests show the Reform UK leader received the huge sum from London-based Direct Bullion on May 29. It shows that he did 12 hours of work over three months for the company, which means his payment works out at £22,500 per hour. The payment is double the £135,000 he received from the same company in October last year. He was also paid £91,200 from them in January 2025. The revelation came just a day before the Commons debates whether MPs should be banned from having second jobs. There is no suggestion that Farage has done anything wrong. A spokesman for the Reform boss said: “As has previously been reported and declared, Nigel Farage is a Brand Ambassador for Direct Bullion.” The latest register of interests also show the Clacton MP received £18,402 on June 16 from GB News for six hours work. The Reform leader is currently being investigated by parliament’s sleaze watchdog for not …

Hawkish Warsh Hammers Barbarous Relic: Gold Crashes Back Below 00 As Rate-Hike Odds Rise

Hawkish Warsh Hammers Barbarous Relic: Gold Crashes Back Below $4000 As Rate-Hike Odds Rise

Gold plunged back below $4,000 an ounce for the first time since November 2025 this morning, as a resurgent dollar and the prospect of higher interest rates bring bullion’s three-year bull market to a halt (now down 30% from its January highs). The precious metal has posted double-digit gains for each of the last three years, more than doubling in price as central banks, money managers and retail investors all piled into the trade. That rally ran out of steam in late January, shortly after the precious metal hit an all-time-high near $5,600 an ounce. Chief among the factors that weighed on bullion’s performance was the outbreak of the US-Iran war. Higher energy prices have fueled inflation and increased the likelihood of rate hikes, making bullion less attractive relative to yield-bearing assets like Treasuries. Additionally, during the early period of the war, Gold reserves were used as a ‘piggy bank’ by Emerging Market nations to fund the huge increase in costs to procure energy (and manage currency runs). Although oil prices are now falling as …
