Supreme Court pushes back against Trump and GOP ahead of the midterm elections

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court in the last week has delivered major blows to President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans that suggest the justices will not be receptive to last-minute efforts to change election rules heading into the midterms. With control of Congress at stake, the court on Monday night blocked Trump’s plan to exert federal control over mail-in ballots via a Postal Service regulation. The decision came after the court twice last week ruled against Republicans by declining to revive a new congressional map in Missouri that would have eliminated one of two Democratic-held districts. While the court has a 6-3 conservative majority that often rules for Republican priorities, there are limits to how receptive some justices are to more extreme requests, election law experts told NBC News. That’s especially true for cases that could disrupt voters when an election is close or already underway. Justin Levitt, an NBC News contributor and election law expert at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, said the recent decisions show “there aren’t five votes for abject …

GOP Congressman From Wisconsin Tearfully Recounts Surviving Emergency Plane Landing in Lake

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, a candidate for Wisconsin governor, wiped away tears and laughed while sharing how thankful he was Sunday to survive a harrowing late-night emergency landing into a lake of the small plane he was riding in. The pilot “said we are going down,” Tiffany, a Republican, told reporters at a downtown Wausau firehouse. “’Pull your seat belt tight.’ I gave it a yank and pulled it good and tight. It was probably about 10 seconds later … we hit the water.” Tiffany said he and the pilot, Leonard Boltz, remained on top of the plane in Lake Wausau until it began sinking before deciding to try and swim to shore. He said they swam about 100 to 150 feet (30 to 45 meters) until they reached water shallow enough to stand in. “We’re really fortunate that God was looking after us last night,” said the 68-year-old Tiffany. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the emergency landing happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday. Boltz called …

Trump asks GOP crowd to pledge allegiance — to him

Trump asks GOP crowd to pledge allegiance — to him

President Donald Trump closed out the Republican midterm convention Thursday with a pledge of allegiance — to himself. During his final remarks in Dallas, Trump instructed the crowd to raise their right hands and repeat after him as he led supporters through an unusual promise to vote in November. “I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States, that loves us so much he can’t even breathe,” Trump began. The pledge quickly went off script. Trump had supporters promise to bring their family and friends to the polls before adding, “I don’t care if I’m registered or not. I’m going to try and cheat like hell, like they do.” The president has repeatedly claimed without evidence that Democrats rely on widespread election fraud to win elections. Earlier in the evening, Trump accused Democrats of opposing the Republican-backed SAVE America Act because “they want to cheat.” Trump eventually instructed attendees to bring friends and family to vote even if they planned to support Democrats — prompting boos from the crowd — before …

Trump plots a campaign blitz; GOP candidates face a decision

President Trump’s upcoming midterm campaign blitz is risking dragging down Republicans facing tough reelection bids as his approval rating plummets ahead of November.  Trump will head to battleground North Carolina to campaign with Senate nominee Michael Whatley on Wednesday in an effort to boost Republican efforts in the fight to keep the seat red.  The… Source link

Convicted Sex Offender Offered Opening Prayer at Rally for GOP Senate Nominee in North Carolina

Convicted Sex Offender Offered Opening Prayer at Rally for GOP Senate Nominee in North Carolina

A pastor kicked off a recent campaign stop for Michael Whatley, the Republican nominee for Senate, with a prayer that asked God to bestow “integrity and honesty” upon the event and to right wrongs “hammered down on the conservative movement.” The prayer was hardly unusual by North Carolina political standards. What was surprising was the man who delivered it. Pastor Daimon L. King is a registered sex offender, twice sentenced to prison for convictions involving children, according to state and court records. The episode occurred with two months to go in a marquee Senate race that could help decide which party controls the chamber after the November elections. It risks undermining one of Whatley’s central campaign arguments — that his Democratic opponent, former Gov. Roy Cooper, is soft on crime. And it could feed into an advertising blitz by Democrats that has targeted the Republican candidate’s association with another convicted sex offender, a former GOP official. King did not respond to messages seeking comment. Whatley’s campaign declined to make him available for an interview. In …

Fetterman’s GOP convention appearance raises questions about his political future

John Fetterman’s (D-Pa.) surprise video appearance at the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) first-ever midterm convention is roiling Democrats in Washington, who are growing exasperated by his frequent Fox News appearances and criticisms of democratic socialists. Political strategists and analysts say that Fetterman’s low approval ratings among Democratic voters in Pennsylvania would have already made… Source link

DALLAS — Vice President Vance roused the closing-night crowd at the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) Dallas convention amid growing chatter about his 2028 prospects.   The Thursday night keynote — interrupted at one point with chants of “48” — offered the vice president a chance to charm the base that will be critical if he decides… Source link

What to know about Trump’s pledge of ,000 to ‘every American’ if GOP wins midterms

What to know about Trump’s pledge of $5,000 to ‘every American’ if GOP wins midterms

President Donald Trump has promised $5,000 to every American adult if Republicans retain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the November midterm elections. The pledge has raised questions about its legality, cost and where the money would come from. Is it legal? Federal law prohibits offering payments in exchange for votes and separately restricts promises of federally funded benefits in return for political support. US President Donald Trump’s offer would appear to skirt these prohibitions because it is more in the nature of a campaign promise and would apply to all adult Americans regardless of how they voted. Any such payment would in any case require congressional authorisation, as the US Constitution bars the president from spending Treasury funds without an appropriation made by law. Trump has made similar pledges in the past which never came about, including promising Americans $2,000 checks from tariff revenues and $5,000 checks from savings made from drastic federal job cuts. Trump Floats $5,000 “Stimmy” Checks For Every US Adult Citizen If GOP Holds Congress

During a speech Wednesday night at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, President Trump proposed sending every adult American citizen a $5,000 “Trump dividend” if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in November. “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them,” Trump said, “I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.” He continued, “It will be called the Trump dividend,” adding, “Now all we have to do is win.” NEW: President Trump makes a major promise at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas: $5,000 for every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the midterms. “I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for… pic.twitter.com/XqiphY7y8a — Fox News (@FoxNews) September 10, 2026 Trump told the audience at the American Airlines Center: “Your vote will decide whether our country stumbles at the starting gate of our next 250 years or surges forward and never …
