‘Ted Lasso’ Season Hits the Halfway Mark With Heartbreak All Around

‘Ted Lasso’ Season Hits the Halfway Mark With Heartbreak All Around

Ted Lasso returned with a new episode on Wednesday — though hardcore fans will likely have already watched it when it drops on Apple TV on Tuesday nights. Season four, episode five of Apple’s hit comedy, titled “Riches of Embarrassment,” has romantic woes around every corner — for both the veteran cast and some of the newbies on Richmond’s new women’s football team. It’s the clearest sign yet that this workplace comedy is leaning into relationship-drama territory, a tendency that’s bubbled below the surface since Ted first landed in England and we all fell for this early-pandemic-era surprise hit. The episode marks the season’s halfway point, with several of Ted Lasso’s romantic entanglements hitting another crossroad. Keeley is looking to rekindle a romance with Roy, but her timing sours when she learns his “10-date experiment” is over — and that the last five rendezvous were all with the same woman. Beard confronts Jane after attending her experimental meta play, and she agrees to stop performing in it herself, only for the show to become the …

Craig Fairbrass confirms Villain 2 is halfway through filming

Craig Fairbrass is returning as Eddie Franks in Villain 2, with the actor teasing a more intense and emotionally demanding follow-up to the acclaimed 2020 crime thriller. Production on the sequel is now well under way, with Fairbrass confirming that filming has reached the halfway point. Speaking exclusively to Radio Times, the actor admitted that the shoot was proving both physically and emotionally demanding. “It’s absolutely – I’m on the verge of swearing – brutal,” he said. “We’re halfway through now. Obviously I’m in every day, so it’s long hours and it’s draining, because it’s physical and mental.” He noted that the film is “a different animal” to the Rise of the Footsoldier movies, in which he stars as notorious real-life Essex criminal Pat Tate. Horror as dad ditches son, 7, halfway up Mount Fuji in rain and fog | World | News

A dad has been admonished after ditching his seven-year-old son halfway up Mount Fuji so he could reach the summit. The 48-year-old set off with his two sons on Thursday, but when the youngest grew tired, the father left him at the sixth checkpoint on the Fujinomiya Trail, roughly 8,169ft above sea level, which is higher than Machu Picchu. The boy was told to “wait here” by his father who wanted to reach the 8,000ft summit in Japan, meaning the boy would have been alone in challenging conditions for hours, had a worker not saved him. According to the Mount Fuji climbing website, it takes more than five hours to reach the summit from this checkpoint, and two and a half hours to return. Thankfully, a mountain worker spotted the boy waiting on a bench at around 7.30am and alerted the police. Rain was falling and fog was beginning to come in, so the worker brought him inside a hut while waiting for authorities. It’s not clear exactly how long the boy was left alone …

‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ Review: Film Sequel Delivers Halfway

‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ Review: Film Sequel Delivers Halfway

It’s more than a little daunting coming to the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise as a newbie. Purists would insist that if you want to fully appreciate the new feature-length animated film you need to immerse yourself in the original Nickelodeon series that ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2008. Then you should check out the animated sequel series The Legend of Korra. Not to mention the myriad related comic books, video games, book adaptations and, of course, Netflix’s live-action series remake. As for M. Night Shyamalan’s critically lambasted 2010 live-action movie version, eh, that you can probably skip. Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender The Bottom Line Impressive action, but not much else. Release date: Friday, July 24Cast: Eric Nam, Dave Bautista, Jessica Matten, Roman Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, Dionne Quan, Freida Pinto, Ke Huy Quan, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Ronny Chieng, Ken Jeong, Dee Bradley BakerDirector: Lauren MontgomeryScreenwriters: Tim Hedrick, Christopher Yost Rated PG, 1 hour 39 minutes All of this is to say that this review of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender — …

Artemis astronauts more than halfway to Moon, putting Earth in rearview

Artemis astronauts more than halfway to Moon, putting Earth in rearview

“GREAT SPIRITS” Friday’s to-do list includes a CPR demonstration and medical kit checks, the US space agency said, as well as preparation for the scientific observations they’ll need to document when they are closest to the Moon on day six of their journey. NASA officials reported on Friday that all systems were performing well, and that the astronauts were in “great spirits” and had spoken to their families. The next major milestone of the approximately 10-day journey is expected overnight on Sunday into Monday, at which point the astronauts will enter the “lunar sphere of influence” – when the Moon’s gravity will have stronger pull on the spacecraft than Earth’s. If all proceeds smoothly as Orion whips around the Moon, the astronauts could set a record by venturing farther from Earth than any human before. “There is nothing normal about this,” said mission commander Wiseman late on Thursday. “Sending four humans 250,000 miles away is a Herculean effort, and we are now just realising the gravity of that.” The Artemis II mission is part of …

Poland: Halfway to Democracy | Joy Neumeyer

Poland: Halfway to Democracy | Joy Neumeyer

In the late afternoon of October 19, 2017, a man walked into Warsaw’s central square and set himself on fire. He had first scattered flyers that began with the words “I, an ordinary, gray person,” and warned of the danger posed by Law and Justice (PiS), the right-wing populist party that took over Poland’s presidency and parliament in 2015. The gray person was Piotr Szczęsny, a fifty-four-year-old chemist and consultant. His manifesto accused the country’s leaders of betraying the legacy of Solidarity and condemned PiS for, among other things, taking control of Poland’s judiciary and media, violating its constitution, and discriminating against immigrants, women, the queer community, and Muslims. Szczęsny declared that PiS and Jarosław Kaczyński—a member of parliament as well as the party’s mastermind—had “blood on their hands.” He ended with a call to resist: “Wake up! It’s not too late!” Szczęsny died ten days later. In a posthumously released open letter, he acknowledged that he suffered from depression but emphasized that his suicide was a political act. There had been many protests against …
