Tippi was a Hitchcock Blonde twice, appearing in The Birds and Marnie, which were released in 1963 and 1964, respectively. While Tippi played damsel in distress Melanie Daniels in The Birds, she had a more complex character in Marnie, playing Marnie Edgar, opposite the late Sean Connery. Despite enjoying her work on Marnie, Tippi endured a difficult working relationship with Alfred Hitchcock, explaining in 1973: “He was too possessive and too demanding. I cannot be possessed by anyone. But, then, that’s my own hangup.” Her co-star, Diane Baker later recalled that the director would prevent her from seeing anyone else while on set. Following an explosive argument, the director stopped her from acting for two years, keeping her under contract without giving her any roles. She made her return in 1967’s A Countess from Hong Kong, which was Charlie Chaplin’s final film, and she also made appearances in Satan’s Harvest, Roar, Dream On and The Ghost and the Whale, which was her final film appearance. But nearly six months later, those plans have not fully materialized. In recent days, federal immigration agents fatally shot two immigrant fathers. DHS accused Lorenzo Salgado Araujo of weaponizing his car and trying to run over an agent in Texas, while the agency accused Joan Durán Guerrero of being a public safety threat while attempting to flee in Maine. None of the federal officers involved were wearing body cameras, the agency said. This has prompted lawmakers, including U.S. Sen. A fatal shooting involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Houston is under growing scrutiny after witnesses challenged the federal government’s account of what happened. ICE officials said Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old Mexican national, was shot after he allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon during an enforcement operation. On July 7, 2026, at approximately 6:50 AM CT, ICE law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop as part of a targeted enforcement operation to arrest an illegal alien. The driver of the vehicle, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo—an illegal alien from Mexico—attempted to evade arrest.… https://t.co/2TWG3GuOr9 — Homeland Security (@DHSgov) July 7, 2026 But three men who were inside the vehicle with Araujo dispute that account, saying the encounter unfolded differently and that officers were not in the path of the vehicle when shots were fired. Ellis was convicted of murdering her lover, David Blakely, in 1955, with the judge on the case handing down a death sentence, making her the last woman to be hanged in the UK. The decision has proven highly controversial in the decades since, with evidence of Ellis’s abuse at Blakely’s hand not being revealed to the jury on the case. Ellis’s family and friends have long argued that their romance was filled with threat, manipulation and physical violence, which caused Ellis to suffer a miscarriage in one especially traumatic instance. The defence of ‘diminished responsibility’, which could have been argued in this case due to the troubling context, was not introduced into British law until two years later.
