Karol G, first Latina to headline Coachella, led with love on Sunday

Karol G may have kicked off her headlining set 30 minutes late on Sunday night — which is early for those familiar with the spatial-temporal concept known as “Latino Time” — but it made her display on the main stage no less monumental. “I’m Carolina Giraldo Navarro from Medellín, Colombia, and today, I am the first Latina woman to headline at Coachella,” she told the crowd, decked in the red, blue and yellow colors of the Colombian flag. Yet it was not just a celebration of Karol’s country people; but a musical welcome wagon, extended from Latin America to the rest of the world. “Forever wild, forever free … Latina foreva,” she recited from backstage, kicking off her set with the slinky reggaeton number of the same name — exalting the primordial goddess that lives inside every Latina. Andean pan flutes trilled as she and her backup dancers surfaced in glittering Stone Age club looks, undulating seductively from cave to cave, in a paleolithic apartment complex that recalled “The Flintstones.” Karol was quick to welcome …

The 32-year-old “Baby” singer took the stage in Indio, California, for a stripped-back set that saw him scrolling through YouTube on a laptop, taking requests from fans in the Coachella livestream. He opened with tracks from his 2025 albums Swag and Swag II — including “Speed Demon” and “Go Baby” before telling the crowd he wanted to take them “on a journey” and delving into his archive. He repeatedly asked the audience: “How far back do you go?” Using the laptop as a kind of digital scrapbook, Bieber pulled up old clips of himself singing covers, as well as the “standing on business” paparazzi confrontation that went viral last June. Promoter defends plan for Kanye West to headline London fest

LONDON: One of the promoters of an annual London music festival on Monday (Apr 6) defended plans for Kanye West to headline it, amid a backlash over the US rapper’s previous antisemitic outbursts. Disgraced 48-year-old hip-hop star West – now known as Ye – is due to play three nights at the Wireless Festival in the British capital in July as part of a European comeback tour. The decision to book him as the headliner has already prompted several sponsors to pull out of the event, including drinks giants Pepsi and Diageo. According to media reports, the government is reviewing whether West should be allowed to enter the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer having already called his booking “deeply concerning”. In a statement issued late Monday, Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic which helps promote the event, urged West’s critics to show him “some forgiveness”. Benn called the rapper’s past comments about Jews and Hitler “abhorrent” but said the festival would not provide “a platform to extol opinion of whatever nature”. He asked critics …
