New York Governor Hochul pushes rules to curb youth online gambling access

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is planning to roll out a comprehensive plan to tighten oversight of online gambling, with a sharp focus on keeping young people off betting platforms and curbing industry practices that can fuel addiction. The proposals, released Monday (March 30) alongside draft rules from the state Gaming Commission, expand on priorities outlined in Hochul’s 2026 State of the State agenda. NY Gov. Kathy Hochul Kills Plan To Allow Robotaxi Operations Outside NYC

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has withdrawn a proposal that would allow commercial robotaxi pilot operations outside New York City limits without a human safety operator in the vehicle. The decision was first reported by Bloomberg News earlier Thursday and is a major setback for Waymo as it attempts a rapid US expansion this year. Bloomberg reported: The proposal, which Hochul had included in a policy preview she presented last month, would have allowed autonomous-vehicle companies such as Waymo to apply for permission to pilot their services without human operators in the vehicle. The decision to withdraw the plan was confirmed Thursday by the governor’s office to Bloomberg News. “While we are disappointed by the Governor’s decision, we’re committed to bringing our service to New York and will work with the state legislature to advance this issue,” a Waymo spokesperson said in a statement provided to Bloomberg. Last week, Waymo co-chief executive Tekedra Mawakana told Bloomberg TV that the Hochul administration showed interest in launching robotaxis. Even if it were outside the NYC metro area, …

New York Governor Hochul pulls robotaxi expansion proposal

New York Governor Hochul pulls robotaxi expansion proposal

Feb 19 : New York Governor Kathy Hochul has withdrawn her proposal to allow commercial robotaxi services in smaller cities outside New York, a spokesperson for the governor said on Thursday.  “Based on conversations with stakeholders, including in the legislature, it was clear that the support was not there to advance this proposal,” the spokesperson said. The move is a setback to Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle unit Waymo, which received its first permit to begin testing autonomous vehicles in New York City in August, albeit with a trained specialist behind the wheel.  The unit, which is providing about 400,000 driverless rides weekly to the public in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta and other cities, was hoping to grow its already sizable foothold in the robotaxi market and tap into a large pool of new users.  “While we are disappointed by the Governor’s decision, we’re committed to bringing our service to New York and will work with the State Legislature to advance this issue,” a Waymo spokesperson said.  Waymo’s authority to test …

Kathy Hochul said Wednesday. The federal government freed up the remaining $98 million due for the Gateway project that is increasing passenger rail capacity into Manhattan, as well as an additional $30 million in reimbursements for work that had been completed in January, Hochul said in a statement. The frozen funds were released in tranches over nearly two weeks after a federal judge blocked the Trump administration from withholding the money for the project that began construction in 2023. In compliance with that Feb. 6 order, the administration released $30 million on Feb. 13, followed by an additional $77 million earlier this week. The funding suspension, initiated on the eve of the Oct. 1 government …
