Princess Anne to attend world’s oldest horse race | Royal | News

Princess Anne is set to play a starring role on the anniversary of the world’s oldest classic horse race. The Princess Royal will be a special guest at this year’s Betfred St Leger as it celebrates 250 years since its first race. Anne has a deep affection for horses, having started riding at the age of 11. In 1976, she became the first member of the Royal Family to compete in the Olympic Games for eventing. And the love runs in the family, with her daughter Zara Tindall also representing the country in London 2012. As part of the day’s celebrations on Saturday, September 12, The Princess Royal will present the winning owner with the coveted Betfred St Leger Trophy following the running of the feature race. The 250th anniversary Betfred St Leger forms the centrepiece of a four-day festival at Doncaster Racecourse, bringing together world-class racing, fashion, entertainment and hospitality for one of the biggest sporting occasions in South Yorkshire. No movie has popped at this year’s fall film festivals more than Wild Horse Nine, Martin McDonagh’s dramedy about a pair of bickering CIA agents, played by John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, who visit Chile’s Easter Island ahead of the 1973 coup that ousted that nation’s democratically elected president. Indeed, the film, which Searchlight will release in the U.S. on Nov. 6, received a 14-minute standing ovation following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, and then played through the roof at its North American premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on Friday. Romance was in the air at the Defender Burghley Horse Trials on Friday as Peter and Harriet Phillips enjoyed a countryside date at Stamford, Lincolnshire. Harriet looked magical at the event, wearing a gorgeous floral top from  Boden, alongside a cream pair of trousers from WIGGY KIT. The outfit was completed with shoes from Penelope Chilvers and a bag from Anya Hindmarch. Her sandy hair was seen billowing behind her as she posed with her husband, who wore a cap, checkered shirt, jeans and a brown waistcoat. A star rating of 4 out of 5. Writer-director Martin McDonagh returns with Wild Horse Nine, the fifth film of his rightly celebrated career. Once again, you can expect a rush of nominations and awards, following on from 2017’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (seven Oscar nods, two wins) and 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin (nine Oscar nominations). Like both, Wild Horse Nine premieres in competition at the Venice Film Festival, which is something of McDonagh’s lucky charm. Not that he needs any good fortune with this latest effort, which springs from an expertly crafted screenplay, one that recalls the odd couple set-up of McDonagh’s debut In Bruges. While that featured Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell as two bickering hitmen on a job in the titular “fairytale” town, here we have Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich, as two CIA operatives. Aug 18 : Italian horse Varenne transcended sport during a record-smashing career as the world’s greatest trotter, becoming a symbol of elegance and athletic prowess and appearing as a celebrity on popular TV shows. Varenne died of a heart attack on Tuesday aged 31, leaving behind an estate of over 2,000 offspring and a wide community of adoring fans in Italy and abroad. Trotting, especially popular in France, Finland, Italy and North America, is a form of racing in which horses pull a light carriage called a “sulky”, manned by a driver, while maintaining a specific two-beat gait called a “trot”. The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently sat down for an interview with YouTube personality Hugo Décrypte to discuss his latest movie The Odyssey, with the host suggesting that the rise of artificial intelligence is comparable with a “glass” Trojan Horse. “I think AI is a Trojan Horse that everybody knows the Greeks are inside,” Nolan agreed with a laugh.
