How Porto’s gritty, industrial neighbour became a cool coastal hotspot | Porto holidays

How Porto’s gritty, industrial neighbour became a cool coastal hotspot | Porto holidays

Why go now This once declining industrial city is on the up, but not so much that it has been ruined – yet. See it now, mid-gentrification, before its humble seafood restaurants become overpriced and its beautifully curated museums and galleries overrun. Five miles north-west of Porto city centre, Matosinhos (pronounced mh-to-ZEE-nyosh) is a municipality built on the fishing. After the construction of the vast Port of Leixões in the 19th century, its fishing industry boomed and supported 54 canneries in its mid-20th-century heyday. Two survive, but most have been demolished, along with the textile factories and sugar refinery that occupied the district south of the harbour, next to the extensive sands of Matosinhos beach, which are fringed by surf schools and rammed with Porto residents in summer. Luxury apartment blocks have risen from the ashes of once prosperous industries, but these stand cheek by jowl with 19th-century tiled houses, abandoned buildings daubed with graffiti and faded mid-century architectural classics championing raw concrete. The faculty of architecture at the University of Porto exerted its influence …

Tourists ‘done’ with Spanish island and ‘won’t go back’ to holiday hotspot

Lanzarote is a destination that Brits know and love but the popular holiday spot has put visitors off recently. Tourists say they “won’t go back” to the destination after holidaymakers raised issues. For weeks, people have been saying they’ve faced problems in Tenerife, but now attention has been placed on Lanzarote too. Videos have been shared online showing people opening up about how they think the popular holiday destination is “done”, reports The Express. One video, shared on TikTok by Biggie Bills, got a lot of people talking, as many were in agreement that an unexpected aspect is “putting them off” visiting again as they made some pretty big travel confessions about the Canary Islands. Biggie said: “This is why people are done with Lanzarote. The wind is constant. Face full of sand with your drink, but not everyone agrees. Some areas are calm. Dealbreaker or not?” The video got a lot of people talking, with hundreds commenting. It seems as though they have very specific thoughts on the holiday destination, as some say they …

I ditched my iPhone’s hotspot for this 5G travel router – and I’m never going back

Acer Connect M6E mobile hotspot pros and cons Pros Very portable mobile hotspot with a long battery life Can accept SIM and eSIM, and also has a built-in virtual SIM High speed 5G modem with MU-MIMO support. Cons SIM card tray is awkward to remove without a tool Charging it is on a slow slide. more buying choices Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. A few years ago, I had a vision of never needing a mobile hotspot again. After all, my iPhone — a gadget that’s never more than an arm’s length away — has that feature, and connecting to it is a doddle if all your devices have the Apple logo. But it’s a poor experience. Try as I might, the connection is almost always unstable and slow (especially when streaming or connecting to a remote system). It’s a massive pain if you have any Android devices because they continually disconnect, which hammers the iPhone’s battery. Also: I love AirTags, but this alternative slips right in my wallet and solves their …

New AT&T Elite 2.0 Phone Plan Boosts Wireless Hotspot and Data Performance

New AT&T Elite 2.0 Phone Plan Boosts Wireless Hotspot and Data Performance

Only a few weeks after overhauling its unlimited phone plans, AT&T has added a new plan to the top of the lineup that offers more data and performance — for a higher price. The AT&T Elite 2.0 plan is available now. For a single line, Elite 2.0 costs $110 (plus taxes and fees). As more lines are added, the per-line price goes down. AT&T customers can mix and match plans on an account, but if we assume everyone is signing up for the Elite 2.0 plan, the costs break down like this: • One line: $110• Two lines: $100 per line, $200 total• Three lines: $85 per line, $255 total• Four lines: $75 per line, $300 total• Five lines: $75 per line, $375 total To compare it with AT&T’s next-priciest option, the Premium 2.0 plan costs $90 for a single line, or $55 per line on an account with four lines. What’s included in the AT&T Elite 2.0 plan For those amounts, the plan includes unlimited high-speed 5G data, prioritized even during network congestion, just like …

Check Who’s Using Your iPhone Hotspot Data

Check Who’s Using Your iPhone Hotspot Data

If you regularly share your iPhone’s data connection with your laptop or iPad, or let family members piggyback on your device’s data, you’ll be glad to learn that Apple recently made it a lot easier to keep tabs on who’s burning through your monthly allowance. In a welcome change with the release of iOS 26.4, Apple has moved Personal Hotspot data usage info out of its previous hiding spot and put it in a much more convenient location. Before the latest update, Personal Hotspot’s per-device breakdown was secreted away inside cellular settings, where it was easy to miss. Now it sits right inside the Personal Hotspot menu, making it way more practical for anyone on a capped data plan who’s keen to keep an eye on usage. Here’s how to check it in iOS 26.4 (you can make sure your device is up-to-date via Settings ➝ General ➝ Software Update). How to Check iPhone Hotspot Data Usage Open Settings on your iPhone. Tap Personal Hotspot. Below the “Maximize Compatibility” toggle, tap Data Usage. Here you’ll …

Your phone’s hotspot might be the best public internet you’re not using

Your phone’s hotspot might be the best public internet you’re not using

Finding Wi-Fi on the go can be a challenging task. Public Wi-Fi may be convenient, but it’s got its own risks. Just because you can access the internet on a connection doesn’t mean you should, especially when you’re working with sensitive information or managing your finances. There are many safer alternatives to public Wi-Fi easily available anyway. The answer to your on-the-go connectivity issues is already in your pocket. Your phone’s hotspot is arguably the most underused tool in most people’s tech arsenal. You’re already paying for a cellular data plan, so you might as well use it properly. Public Wi-Fi is a gamble you don’t need to take Open networks are convenient, but far from secure Public Wi-Fi can be genuinely risky. Most are either completely unencrypted or use shared encryption keys, which means anyone else on the same network — possibly hundreds of people — can potentially intercept your internet traffic. Cybercriminals routinely set up free Wi-Fi networks that look completely legitimate but are designed to phish your login credentials, browsing data, and …

iOS 26.4 Highlights Your Personal Hotspot Data Usage More Prominently

iOS 26.4 moves the feature to show how much mobile data connected devices have used via Personal Hotspot to a more prominent and easily accessible location. Now available in Personal Hotspot settings below the “Maximize Compatibility” toggle, the functionality breaks down data usage by device, with non-Apple devices simply showing up as a group of “Other Devices.” Total Personal Hotspot Data usage is also displayed. Previously, the feature was buried in cellular settings. It may be particularly helpful to those with a data limit on their carrier plan. iOS 26.4 is now available in beta to developers.
