American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is rolling out 2027 model year updates to the R1S SUV and R1T pickup this week. Alongside a revised trim-level naming scheme that brings the R1 models in line with the newer R2, Rivian’s R1S can now be had with a new second-row captain’s chair configuration that trades a bit of seat capacity for improved comfort and convenience. Meanwhile, the R1T electric truck gets a new all-season wheel-and-tire option, rebalancing on-road range with off-road capability. Upgraded seating The biggest material update affects the full-size R1S, which is now available with a six-seat configuration that swaps the SUV’s second-row bench for captain’s chairs. The new buckets get individual armrests that fold flush when not in use and a push-to-release cupholder that accommodates large water bottles, while retaining the bench’s heated surfaces and car-seat tie-downs. A Minnesota man who killed an elderly relative went on to fatally stab his wife and their 7-year-old daughter Wednesday at a Minneapolis-area home daycare where other children were present, police said. The man fatally shot himself after the stabbing deaths of his family members at the home daycare in Hopkins, Minnesota, around 9 a.m., Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnston said. Hours later, in nearby Burnsville, Minnesota, which is 12 miles southeast of Hopkins, police were called on a report of a stabbing and found a 78-year-old woman, who was described as a close relative of the suspect, dead, police said. “Our entire community is grieving the loss, unnecessarily, due to domestic violence,” Johnston said. Six other children were at the home daycare, but were not injured and were safely evacuated, Johnston said. It was not clear if they witnessed the violence, Johnston said. The suspect is a 41-year-old man, and the woman killed at the Hopkins home daycare was also 41, police said. None of the victims have been publicly identified, and police said …

The BBC has axed three of its most famous shows in its attempt to make £500m in savings over the next two years. The broadcaster has confirmed that Celebrity Mastermind, the Blankety Blank revival and Live at the Apollo have all been put to rest. The latter has been a BBC mainstay for 22 years. “We are incredibly proud of all three of these much-loved shows and would like to thank everyone involved, both in front of and behind the camera, for bringing them to screen and making them such a success over many years,” the BBC said in a statement. “Unfortunately, we have to make some really tough choices in light of our funding challenges, and these savings have been identified from the entertainment genre.” Blankety Blank is historically one of Britain’s longest-running game shows, though this incarnation stems from 2021, when the BBC rebooted it with host Bradley Walsh.
