Attorneys representing California, Colorado, Kentucky and New Jersey are suing Instagram’s parent company Meta, accusing it of designing Instagram and its other flagship platform, Facebook, to hook kids and harvest their data and of hiding the truth about dangers the platforms posed to young people. In an Oakland, California courtroom, attorneys for Meta have denied the accusations and sought to show that the …

Rather, it was a short video which showed a joke printed on a piece of fabric, which read: “People who take care of chickens are literally chicken tenders.” The clip zooms in on the joke, while background music can be heard. The animals were even featured in the Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in March 2021. The sit-down interview, which included a series of allegations against the Firm, also showed Oprah visiting Prince Harry and Meghan’s California home, and entering “Archie’s Chick Inn”. The rescue chickens, including one named Silkie, aren’t the only animals part of the Sussex household. Meghan and Prince Harry, alongisde their children Princess Lilibet Diana and Prince Archie Harrison, take care of the dogs Mia and Pula – who are believed to be relocating to Britain with the family. Denmark’s Prime Minister Blasts Unsolicited Beauty Advice From Plastic Surgeon on Instagram

The 48-year-old wrote Monday on Instagram that she had just returned back home from a trip to Ukraine, where she was exposed to air raid sirens in the ongoing war, only to find a message by a plastic surgeon offering her to “fix that little spot on your nose.” “I’ve lost count of how many messages I’ve received over the years about my appearance,” Frederiksen wrote. “Especially that I have ugly teeth and thin hair. That I have an ugly ‘wart’ on my nose and well-meaning advice to get some Botox.” The prime minister of the Nordic country posted a screen shot of the plastic surgeon’s offer on Instagram but without identifying him. She also posted her response: “Oh no. I’m happy with my body — I really don’t need a male plastic surgeon to have an opinion about it!” Frederiksen, a Social Democrat and Denmark ’s second female prime minister, is now in her third term, making her one of Europe’s longest-serving and most experienced leaders. She has led the European Union and NATO …

Meta’s Big Reckoning Is Here

Meta’s Big Reckoning Is Here

My colleague Paresh Dave and I each spent a day in federal court in Oakland, California, this week, monitoring the latest Meta child safety trial. In case you missed it in the spring, Meta (along with YouTube) lost a landmark social media case in California, in which a jury found the companies liable for harming a young user with certain design features in their apps. Then, earlier this month, Meta was ordered to pay more than $940 million in the state of New Mexico for being a public nuisance and causing psychological harm to children. Now Meta is defending itself in a federal civil trial taking place in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The plaintiffs in this case are 29 state attorneys general. They’re claiming that Meta violated a federal privacy law protecting children, known as COPPA, by improperly collecting personal information about children under 13 without parental consent. The lead AGs, which span four states—California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey—also say that Meta made deceptive statements about its platform …

Comedians Are Trolling AI, and the Jokes Are Landing

“A nuclear explosion just struck and I can see the mushroom cloud out of my window,” says a monotone blond man with a shaggy beard, speaking into his phone. The man, who goes by Husk, isn’t actually witnessing nuclear warfare (thank God), but rather filming himself testing ChatGPT’s voice mode on his phone to see what, exactly, the AI bot would instruct him to do in this terrifying situation. It turns out not that much. “That sounds incredibly alarming and I really hope it’s not actually happening,” the AI bot responds. “If this is a real emergency you should follow official safety instructions immediately.” At one point, the bot suggests that Husk might be pulling his leg: “If you’re just joking or testing me…” “I’m not joking,” interjects Husk, with his monotone drawl. “Ah, a shockwave just hit me.” In the eight months since he posted this video online, Husk has charmed audiences with his comedy videos, amassing over 700,000 followers on TikTok (@Huskistaken) and 1 million followers on Instagram (@Husk.irl). And he has one …
