Selma Blair Reveals Extent of Career Fallout After Instagram Comment

Selma Blair has revealed new details about the career fallout she faced following a controversial Instagram comment she made amid the Israel-Hamas war in February 2024. The veteran star said she lost her entire career and the team that supported it — talent agency CAA, a manager of 30 years, a lawyer and personal and book publicists — in the wake of leaving a comment widely criticized as anti-Islamic under a video posted by immigration reform advocate Abraham Hamra. Though she apologized, Blair noted it wasn’t enough and not only did she lose that team but also brand deals, payment for a supposed Super Bowl advertisement, her son’s godmother and more. So much that, she says, she came to learn “what erased feels like.” “The brands I worked with were gone within a day. A few partnerships I’d spent years building were shelved. My agency was gone. My lawyer was gone. My publicist was gone. My book agent was gone. My book publicist was gone. My social media manager was gone. My son’s godmother was …

Israeli Americans Protest Outside ‘NAZA’ New York Premiere

Israeli Americans Protest Outside ‘NAZA’ New York Premiere

Dozens of Israeli Americans and members of Jewish communities gathered outside the Lincoln Center on Saturday to protest the premiere of NAZA at the New York Film Festival. The documentary, directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, was filmed at night from Tel Aviv rooftops and examines “the systems behind the mass killing of Palestinian civilians” by Israel‘s military operations in Gaza, the filmmakers previously said. During the protest, demonstrators screened footage from the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel from LED screens mounted on trucks outside the premiere. Nova festival survivors Rom El-Hai and Shalev Biton also spoke to the crowd, sharing their accounts of Oct. 7. “We’re here not because we’re saying, don’t show the film,” Israeli-American Council (IAC) co-chair Tal Shuster said of NAZA during the rally. “Everyone has the freedom of speech, that’s the United States. We are saying: it’s not all the facts. Show everything else, not just the documentary.” “We have the trucks here,” Shuster continued. “Let’s each one of us be an ambassador and show people what actually happened. …

Matthew Lillard Is Embarrassed About Scream 7 Return After Melissa Barrera’s Firing

Matthew Lillard has confessed that he’s “embarrassed” about returning for Scream 7 following Melissa Barrera’s firing from the slasher franchise. During a recent Q&A, via a video posted on TikTok, the actor said Barrera was “on the right side of history” when she expressed support for Palestinians in 2023 amid the Israel-Hamas war. “It’s just human, it’s like who we are… I don’t know what else to do,” Lillard said. “For me… I have queer kids; if I’m not standing up for queer kids or kids in the trans community, what the fuck am I doing?” The Five Nights at Freddy’s star continued, “Listen, I don’t think it’s easy all the time. Melissa Barrera, who’s a beautiful actor, was fired for what she said. … That’s really fucking bullshit and really hard, and she’s on the right side of history. And when they start coming after your job, sometimes things are worth it.” “But I’m just gonna say, what happened to Melissa, the whole world didn’t pipe up,” he added. “She was like a year …

Israeli Minister threatens to Revoke Citizenship of ‘NAZA’ directors

Israeli Minister threatens to Revoke Citizenship of ‘NAZA’ directors

Israel‘s Culture Minister has said he will work to revoke the citizenship of Oscar-winning filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor over their new documentary, NAZA. Writing on X, Zohar described the film as “vile,” saying it “constitutes treason.” The documentary, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, features testimony from 24 Israeli military officers outlining the systems and protocols they allege Israel uses to target and kill civilians in Gaza. The film’s title, NAZA, comes from an acronym the Israeli military uses as a shorthand for civilian casualties. “This is exactly the reason I led the important reform in cinema so that Israeli citizens will no longer have to pay out of their own pockets for the harm to IDF soldiers and the State of Israel,” Zohar wrote, referring to his recent reforms of government funding for the Israeli film industry. NAZA, like the documentary No Other Land, directed by Zohar and Abraham together with Palestinian filmmakers Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal, did not receive any Israeli public funding. …

Inside NAZA the Bombshell Expose on IDF’s War in Gaza

Inside NAZA the Bombshell Expose on IDF’s War in Gaza

NAZA, which won a Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival Saturday night, is already one of the most shocking and controversial documentaries of the year. It may also prove to be one of the most indispensable. The exposé, from Israeli directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, features testimony from 24 Israeli military officers outlining the systems and protocols they allege Israel uses to target and kill civilians in Gaza. The film’s title, NAZA, comes from an acronym the Israeli military uses as a shorthand for civilian casualties. Abraham and Szor, part of the director collective behind the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, which documented the destruction of a village in the occupied West Bank by Israeli soldiers and settlers, shot NAZA clandestinely over three years, doing the interviews under the cover of night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv. The duo used VFX to alter the voices and faces of the officers. Their allegations and revelations are harrowing. One describes hacking into the phone of a 12-year-old girl to identify when her father, …

Macklemore Responds to Backlash Over ‘Free Palestine’ Onstage Plea

Macklemore Responds to Backlash Over ‘Free Palestine’ Onstage Plea

Macklemore is doubling down after facing backlash from a pro-Israel organization over his “Free Palestine” public plea while opening for Ed Sheeran‘s Loop Tour. On Monday, the rapper wrote on social media, “Wanting all humans to be treated equal should never be controversial.” His post also included his speech from Saturday, the second night of back-to-back shows at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. After stating “Free Palestine” again onstage Saturday night, Macklemore later clarified to the audience, “To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.” “So I say Free Palestine, I say Free Lebanon, I say Free Cuba, I say Free Congo, Free Sudan, I say Free all people in America living in fear of this terrorist organization, ICE. None of us will be free until we are all free,” he added. This came a day after Macklemore’s opening set on Friday …

Portuguese Artists Drop Out of Jerry Seinfeld-Headlined Festival

Portuguese Artists Drop Out of Jerry Seinfeld-Headlined Festival

Multiple acts participating in a comedy festival in Portugal, the inaugural MEO Commedia a La Carte Fest (Lisbon International Humour Festival), have announced that they are no longer participating. Actress Inês Aires Pereira announced on Saturday that her show Namastê was being removed from the festival‘s lineup and explained her reasoning being that “one of the names insistently defends ideas and acts that I consider indefensible.” She also added in her social media post: “We cannot relativize or normalize a genocide.” Her statement did not explicitly identify any particular act that she was referring to. The comedy duo Cebola Mol, made up of Eduardo Madeira and Filipe Homem Fonseca, also announced on Saturday that they too would not be performing in the festival. “We will celebrate justice, freedom and joy with you on another occasion,” they wrote on social media. Other acts to withdraw from the festival include concert “Tributo Pop” (Carolina Deslandes, Tatanka and Bárbara Tinoco), the group Conjunto Cuca Monga, comedian Pedro Tochas and visual artist Vhils (Alexandre Farto). Reasoning was not publicly …

Petition Calls for Macklemore’s Removal From Ed Sheeran Tour

A pro-Israel organization is calling for the removal of Macklemore from Ed Sheeran‘s Loop Tour after the rapper’s onstage “Free Palestine” public plea. On Friday, while opening for the “Shape of You” singer at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, Macklemore performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall.” He also told the audience, “A big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place is so I could stand up in stadiums like this and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine. I said, ‘Free Palestine!’ I want those words to be loud and clear, so that people all the way in Gaza to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten about them.” The Grammy winner added that he believes “every single human being that walks this earth deserves” to “know safety and peace before they know the sound of violence, to know the sound of laughter on a playground before planes and bombs, for parents to be able to say bye to …

Venice Adds Gaza Doc ‘NAZA’ to Competition

Venice Adds Gaza Doc ‘NAZA’ to Competition

The Venice Film Festival has added Naza, a politically-charged documentary from No Other Land filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor to its competition line-up for this year. The documentary claims to reveal in detail “the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.” The film builds on revelations first published by the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine, Hebrew-language outlet Local Call and The Guardian between 2023 and 2025. Naza was produced by The Guardian and James Wilson at JW Films in association with Placeholder Films and Unseen Hand. Wilson produced Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-winning The Zone of Interest. Glazer is an executive producer on Naza. According to the producers, the film’s title “comes from a military acronym euphemistically used by Israeli intelligence to indicate the number of civilians that it expects will be killed in an airstrike.” The doc will have its world premiere in Venice on Sept. 10. It is the only feature documentary picked for competition this year. Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor are two of the four co-directors of No Other …

Voice of Hind Rajab Director Reacts to Israeli Military Investigation

Voice of Hind Rajab Director Reacts to Israeli Military Investigation

The director of the Oscar-nominated docudrama The Voice of Hind Rajab has criticized the Israeli military investigation announced this week into the death of the 5-year-old Palestinian girl, who was killed after Israeli forces fired on her family’s car in Gaza City. “This announcement is a smokescreen,” Kaouther Ben Hania said on Instagram, questioning why it took so long to launch the investigation. “For more than two years, the evidence has been there: independent investigations, satellite imagery, ballistic analysis,” Ben Hania wrote. “And there was the most devastating evidence of all: Hind’s own voice, describing the Israeli tanks circling around her. What more did we need? Did we really have to wait for the accused to decide to investigate itself (yes, itself!) before these facts could finally be taken seriously?” She added, “Look at the cases the Israeli military is choosing to speak about today: they are precisely the ones that international public opinion has made impossible to ignore. And what about all the others? Those whose names we will never know because their deaths …
