The pair first met while starring in 1999 teen series Freaks and Geeks and went on to work together on a string of hit movies, including Pineapple Express (2008), The Interview (2014) and The Disaster Artist (2017). When Franco was accused of sexual misconduct in January 2018, Rogen publicly distanced himself from the actor after originally supporting him – something Franco described as “hurtful”. Seth Rogen Hasn’t Talked to James Franco in ‘Long Time’

Seth Rogen and James Franco spent years as friends and close collaborators on the short-lived TV show Freaks and Geeks and movies like Pineapple Express, This Is The End, The Disaster Artist and The Interview. But after Franco was hit with numerous allegations of sexual misconduct in 2018, Rogen has said he has no plans to work with him again. And his approach hasn’t changed. Still Rogen was asked about his relationship with Franco in a recent interview with The New York Times, and he indicated the situation is complicated. “I honestly think the nuance of it is too personal for me to get into right now,” Rogen said. “It is a very personal thing. There’s the public-facing side of it, which I’ve spoken about, and I have the same stance publicly that I’ve had, and I think the proof is in the pudding — I have not worked with him in years. But the personal side of it is just so nuanced, and it involves people that I don’t know if I should be …

Annual Trophée Chopard Dinner Honors Odessa A’zion and Connor Swindells

“Tonight I’m not here to receive applause and awards, tonight I’m here to give an award,” acclaimed actress and Trophée Chopard godmother Isabelle Huppert told guests a lengthy standing ovation. The Trophée Chopard dinner has become a tradition in Cannes, during which Chopard honors two young actors at an evening on the beach presided over by the official Cannes jury, as well as festival heads Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch. Huppert was funny and thoughtful in her remarks: At one point, one of the massive diamond earrings dangling from her ear got stuck in her dress, and Chopard co-president, Caroline Scheufele, helped untangle them. “It’s a beautiful earring though,” she joked. Later in her speech, Huppert spoke broadly about the role of cinema in society. “Cinema is not only an industry,” she said. “it is a way of inhabiting the world. I think cinema is a language of peace.” Odessa A’zion was the first to accept her award and did so in her usual style. She got up on the stage and took her speech, …

Odessa A’Zion and Connor Swindells Honored by Chopard in Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival itineraries of leaders Thierry Fremaux and Iris Knobloch are understandably jam-packed with events, so when they stand in the spotlight together, and the former says “this is one of the best evenings of the festival,” chances are it’s going to be a good night. The two joined Chopard’s Caroline Scheufele at Carlton Beach Friday night for the luxury jeweler’s Chopard Trophy gala to fete two actors hand-picked as “next generation” talents in the presence of a godmother tasked with presenting the trophies. This year, that honor went to French film icon Isabelle Huppert, who took her time in handing over the awards to Odessa A’zion and Connor Swindells. Prior to reading her speech, the actress, in Cannes for the world premiere of Asghar Farhadi’s Parallel Tales, said she took the gig “very seriously,” and it showed. “The Chopard Trophy does not simply reward talent. It recognizes a movement, a promise, something that is already there yet still in the process of becoming,” she said. “Perhaps that is what it means to …

Ex Sony CEO Regrets Making Seth Rogen’s ‘The Interview’ After Hack

Michael Lynton, the former CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, is looking back on the 2014 film The Interview with deep regret. In a recent excerpt from Lynton’s upcoming memoir From Mistakes to Meaning: Owning Your Past So It Doesn’t Own You, published recently in the Wall Street Journal, he opens up about how greenlighting The Interview, a dark comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco about a plan to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was the “biggest mistake of my career,” because it led to the infamous Sony hack. Lynton was made aware on Nov. 17, 2014, by the head of IT reporting that 70 percent of Sony’s servers were irreparably damaged. Hackers released stolen emails that had confidential scripts and personal information. The FBI became involved with evidence suggesting that North Korea was most likely behind the attack to axe the release of the film. The movie was pulled from the U.S.’s major theater chains ahead of its Dec. 25 release after threats from hacker groups implied that moviegoers would be in …
