Union Seminary’s Rev. Dr. Serene Jones

Union Seminary’s Rev. Dr. Serene Jones

Rev. Dr. Serene Jones served as president of Union Theological Seminary in New York City for 18 years—long enough to see her own daughter graduate from the historic institution. During that time, she has been a strong advocate for integrating activism with theological education, mirroring her own calling and journey. We get Rev. Jones’ insights into how a seminary education has changed in the past two decades, and how today’s students are facing the challenges and realities of 2026 America. Her take on how churches and universities kept our democracy knitted together, and how the moral discourse that came from that has diasppeared, is a powerful warning, and an urgent call to action. As seminaries shuttered, Union grew. For Serene Jones, controversy was the price of survival.

NEW YORK (RNS) — When the Rev. Serene Jones arrived at Union Theological Seminary in 2008, she focused on two jobs: Fix the house, then make a bigger table. Eighteen years later, as Jones prepares to step down as president in July, the historically Christian and progressive seminary in Manhattan has renovated its aging campus, expanded its interreligious programming and enrolled its largest incoming class in more than 30 years. “Now the house is fixed, the table is open, and everybody’s pouring in,” Jones said. In fall 2025, Union enrolled 128 new students; last year it was 102. The growth comes at a precarious time for theological education. Seminaries across the country are facing declining enrollment, rising costs and fewer students pursuing ordained ministry. Many schools have closed, merged, sold campuses because of financial strain or maintenance costs, or moved more of their training online. In New York, over the past decade, two once-prominent Episcopal seminaries, Episcopal Divinity School and General Theological Seminary, have been unable to maintain a traditional residential-campus model. “Nearly all seminaries …

We’ve also got all the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants DLC safe codes as well. The safes are spread across all the missions and locations found in the game, with some being required to unlock as part of the story, and others just holding extra goodies. We’re not sure if Troy Baker, who plays the titular Indiana Jones, will need the extra help, as he recently told the Radio Times Gaming team that he will be on his third playthrough when it launches on the Nintendo Switch 2. We can’t speak for the rest of the cast, however… Nevertheless, it’s a good thing that you’re playing the game in the here and now, as back when the game is set, poor Indy couldn’t just look up the safe …

Torchwood’s Ianto Jones shrine gets preservation update

Torchwood’s Ianto Jones shrine gets preservation update

Doctor Who prop maker James Sutton has revealed that preservation efforts are under way for the fictional entrance to Torchwood HQ in Cardiff Bay following the removal of Ianto Jones’s shrine. The tribute, which was built by fans of the Doctor Who spin-off to commemorate the fictional character after he was killed off in 2009 and had covered the location used as the entrance to Torchwood HQ, was taken down in April due to maintenance works. Writing on Instagram on Thursday (7 May), Sutton revealed that, with the permission of Mermaid Quay and BBC Studios, he’d been to visit the location and had salvaged “a few smaller dressing pieces” with the hope of returning for “the larger pieces”, including the newspapers in the windows. He wrote: “The idea came to me last week after spotting parts of the Hub entrance still visible behind the remains of Ianto’s Shrine. I was amazed some of the original details were still surviving nearly 20 years later, and with redevelopment plans underway, I realised there was a real chance …

Indiana’s Indiana Jones | Nina Siegal

Indiana’s Indiana Jones | Nina Siegal

In April 2014 agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the family farm of Don Miller, a ninety-year-old electrical engineer and amateur archaeologist, and seized thousands of artifacts, skulls, and other bones that he had stolen from indigenous burial grounds and cultural heritage sites across the globe. Miller had hoarded his plunder in his house, his barns, and a disused fallout shelter in Rush County, Indiana. Investigators found that he had also created eccentric and morbid displays: “arrowheads hammered into a skull for dramatic effect, a baby’s skull repurposed as an apple bowl.” Bones were mixed with animal remains, “strewn across shelves and stuffed into tote bags…. They were filthy with grime and black mold, infested with silverfish.” Mice were nesting in skulls. In a locked room, there was a nearly complete skeleton laid out on red felt cloth in a glass case labeled “Sioux Warrior, 19th Cent.,” which Miller claimed was the remains of Crazy Horse, the famous Lakota leader of a rebellion against the US military. Miller was so attached to it …
