Last One Laughing special gets a major rule change for new episode

Things are about to get much more difficult on Last One Laughing UK… The entertainment hit, which tasks comedians with ensuring they don’t giggle while trying to make one another laugh, will return for a Halloween special later this year – but there’s a twist. Speaking at the Broadcast Summit, commissioner Cat Lynch told audiences that, in addition to the normal rules around not laughing, comics will also be penalised for screaming. The Prime Video comedy series will be introducing scares to make the contestants jump, which might make it rather difficult to withhold screams… There’s no word yet on who will be taking part or if there will be any returning faces, so watch this space. Sam Campbell and David Mitchell. Amazon MGM Studios Prime Video confirmed last month that Last One Laughing had been greenlit for a third season as well as a Halloween special, with the former coming to screens in 2027. The most recent series concluded earlier this month and saw the return of Bob Mortimer, who entered the game hoping to …

The hit Prime series returned for a second outing last month, with 10 comedians – including last year’s champion, Bob Mortimer – entering the studio and attempting to make it through the day without laughing. Gledhill was one of the newer faces among them, and in an appearance on co-star Alan Carr’s Life’s A Beach podcast, she admitted that a scene which she considered to be one of her funniest moments didn’t make the final edit. The 38-year-old explained: “The thing that I did that I thought might have been funny hasn’t made it into the show because it was too mucky. Me and Sam [Campbell] did an improv in the bed.” …

I went to the London area named one of the best places to live – everyone I told burst out laughing

I went to the London area named one of the best places to live – everyone I told burst out laughing

“Bow, really? You can’t be serious,” followed with a hearty laugh. That was the response I got when I told residents that Bow was ranked among the best places to live in London. The shock, the horror and the complete confusion left everybody laughing. The only constant was that opinion usually came from someone who had lived or worked in Bow for a long time. I grew up in Homerton, and Bow is a 10-minute journey from me. I echoed people’s surprise to see that the Sunday Times ranked Bow among the ‘Best Places to Live’ in London I remember when I was young, going regularly to Bromley-by-Bow Tesco on the S2 bus from Homerton. It always felt like an adventure going there, and back then, the area was certainly a bit rough. If you asked 12-year-old Ayo, would this be the best place to live? I would have certainly replied that there must be better. Artwork on the Lord Morpeth pub that shows the East London Suffragettes -Credit:Ayo Oluwalana/MyLondon After I visited Sutton a …

Last One Laughing is the funniest show on TV – it shows what Brits do best

**Warning: Contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Last One Laughing UK.** Who would have thought that Prime Video could’ve topped the utter hilarity of Last One Laughing UK season 1? Between Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade speed dating, to Danny Dyer giving the cast acting lessons and surprise appearances from Nick Mohammed and Alison Hammond, it seemed impossible to do any better. Enter the casting team of season 2. Affectionately dubbed the “deadpan daddies” by Roisin Conaty, this year’s cast include a true variety of comics, many of whom lasted longer than anticipated due to their deadpan nature, from Romesh Ranganathan to Diane Morgan. Were they any good at the game by making the other comics laugh or did they manage to stay so long because they have in their locker what Brits know and love: sarcastic and deadpan humour? Diane Morgan, for example, is beloved for her role as Liz on Motherland, a no-nonsense and unflinching mum who remains cool and under pressure after cutting off her finger. And then there’s Philomena Cunk. It’s interesting to …

Who won Last One Laughing UK season 2?

Who won Last One Laughing UK season 2?

**Warning: Contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Last One Laughing UK.** Last One Laughing UK season 2 began with 10 comedians and they all had just one job: don’t laugh! As audiences reached the final episode today (2 April), just four comics remained in the race to become the winner, but it was by no means an easy feat. David Mitchell, Mel Giedroyc, Sam Campbell and reigning champ Bob Mortimer remained in the running, and with just 40 minutes left, host Jimmy Carr announced they were now in sudden death, meaning whoever laughed next would be handed the red card. But for David Mitchell, he got the last laugh and was crowned the winner of Last One Laughing UK season 2! David Mitchell for Radio Times. Robert Wilson / Radio Times “That was quite insane because I think we disappeared into a place where there was no laughter,” David said following his win. He added: “I have to say, for all the bleakness at the end, I am delighted to win and I think that shows a want …

What humour means to older people – and why some find it hard to keep on laughing

What humour means to older people – and why some find it hard to keep on laughing

For many older people, humour can be a lifeline. It’s not easy to discuss the challenges of ageing – from loneliness and the loss of a loved one to dealing with chronic pain. But laughter can be an invaluable way of opening up about how hard life sometimes feels. “I struggle to get round at times, but I have to,” a 72-year-old man told me during my research with colleagues into older people’s experiences of humour. “If I didn’t laugh at myself, I’d cry.” Past research has suggested that cognitive decline can reduce older people’s ability to be funny. But our study offers an alternative explanation for the reduced amount of humour in their lives. It’s not so much about older people losing their sense of humour, as about changes in their opportunities to use and enjoy it. We interviewed 20 people aged 60 and over about the role of humour in their lives, having already asked them to rate their wellbeing. What emerged was a complex picture: humour can be a key part of …

Last One Laughing UK cast star across this week’s 12 covers

It was the TV hit no one saw coming. When Last One Laughing landed on Prime Video last year, it became the fastest word-of-mouth sensation we’ve seen at Radio Times. A brilliantly simple idea, it locked 10 of Britain’s sharpest comics in a room and challenged them to do the unthinkable: not laugh. The result was six hours of escalating absurdity, stitched into one of the funniest series on TV. If you missed the first run, seek it out before diving into series two, it’s a masterclass in controlled chaos. As you can see, we feature 12 different covers this week. We spoke to all 10 contestants, plus the hosts, about what it’s like to take part. Not laughing, it would seem, is only half the battle: the real art lies in breaking everyone else. The comedians quickly realised this was unlike any panel show they’d done before. As Jimmy Carr succinctly puts it, it was “the right show at the right time… it’s impossible to be sad or angry while laughing”. Page 1 Page …

Keir Starmer shows true colours on Iran – makes UK a laughing stock | Personal Finance | Finance

Keir Starmer shows true colours on Iran – makes UK a laughing stock | Personal Finance | Finance

Is Keir Starmer the most embarrassing leader in British history? I had to go back a thousand years to find somebody even less equipped to stand up for his own country. That man was Æthelred the Unready, King of England from AD978 to 1016. Too scared to fight the Vikings, he tried buying them off instead. They simply came back for more. Sound familiar? There’s a similar logic behind the Chagos Islands fiasco. Æthelred has gone down in history as a by-name for uselessness and incompetence. Now Britain has a worthy successor. Let’s call him Starmer the Non-starter. Although that’s quite polite compared to what others are calling him. Donald Trump has dismissed him as a “loser”. Kemi Badenoch has blasted his dithering. Nigel Farage calls him humiliating. From day one, Starmer has struggled to stand up for his own country. Today, he prostrates himself before international law that nobody else follows. Iran certainly isn’t bound by any rules. The regime spreads terror through proxy armies across the Middle East while slaughtering its own people. …
