Watt’s up, doc? Huddig hybrid loader gets a big battery boost [video]

Watt’s up, doc? Huddig hybrid loader gets a big battery boost [video]

Swedish heavy equipment brand HUDDIG has given its 1370 hybrid wheel loader platform a major battery upgrade for the new model year, boosting its battery capacity from 44 kWh to fully 61 kWh – an impressive, 40% upgrade! HUDDIG’s 1370 TIGON hybrid is an incredibly flexible machine that can be equipped for a wide range of work. In addition to being able to do everything a conventional wheel loader can do, it can be fitted with a loader-mounted crane (LCC), a bucket lift with an insulated basket, and even be operated via remote control. The killer app for this machine, though, is a high-capacity traction battery that enables the loader to operate as a fully electric machine. And this isn’t a gimmick or a concept for HUDDIG, either – the company has a deployed fleet of 41 first-generation machines that had collectively operated for 96,306 hours and saved an estimated 140,439 gallons of diesel before the launch of the second-gen machine. “With 100,000 hours of actual operation, we’ve had a very solid foundation for our development …

Avant Tecno e727 electric wheel loader

Avant Tecno e727 electric wheel loader

Increasingly volatile fuel prices are making electric equipment options a need, rather than a want for many fleets, and Avant Tecno is working to meet that need with the new e727 electric wheel loader – the company’s largest offering in North America. The benefits of compact electric equipment assets in urban areas are well known, with their low noise, zero tailpipe emission, and lower cost of operations already well known. The question, then, has been about the machines’ higher upfront costs and challenges associated with charging infrastructure – but those challenges are increasingly easier to navigate than roller coaster gas prices. The timing for Avant Tecno’s US launch of its new e727 electric wheel loader, promising 1,400 kg (~3,000 lbs.) of lifting capacity at a lift height of over 10 feet, couldn’t be better. “Bringing a fully electric, sustainable loader that’s as powerful and reliable as our diesel models to the US market has been a long time coming,” said Beau Slavens, president of Avant Tecno USA. “The e727’s advanced features, like the Autoshift and its enhanced powertrain, …

25-ton LiuGong 870HE electric wheel loader

25-ton LiuGong 870HE electric wheel loader

Chinese equipment brand LiuGong is putting its 25-ton 870HE electric wheel loader to work at a STRABAG quarry in Slovenia, proving that electric vehicles can get the job done without the sky-high fuel costs associated with fossil fuels. Fuel consumption at STRABAG’s Slovenian quarry operations is both the largest contributor to the company’s carbon footprint and one of its most significant operating costs. Given the company’s dual goals of achieving carbon neutrality target by 2040 and staying profitable long enough to make it to 2040, a move to 100% electrified equipment is seriously being considered. To that end, STRABAG is testing one of LiuGong’s big electric loaders all summer to evaluate how the zero-emission solution can be successfully integrated into its existing operations. “Decarbonising our construction machinery is a key step in reducing our emissions,” explains Lutz Müller, Technical Manager Aggregates and Concrete, STRABAG. “The electric wheel loader from LiuGong shows how low-emission operation and high performance can be successfully combined at our quarries.” Advertisement – scroll for more content With the strait of Hormuz …

Where do you charge your wheel loader? Try the Circle K!

Where do you charge your wheel loader? Try the Circle K!

As more and more job sites make moves to electrify their heavy equipment assets, there have been more and more questions from those on the outside looking in about how and where those big machines get charged up – which is why I absolutely love this picture of an electric wheel loader charging up at Circle K! Volvo Construction Equipment (CE) segment leader Gustav Bomberg took to LinkedIn recently with some absolutely fantastic pictures of the company’s L90 Electric wheel loader plugged into a 400 kW DC fast charger outside of a Circle K on a snowy morning. “It was fun to watch people’s reactions when a wheel loader was charging outside McDonald’s,” he writes. “We charged it there, too.” Volvo first announced the new L90 Electric wheel loader at last summer’s Volvo Days event, with dedicated electric motors for propulsion and hydraulics, enabling full available power to both systems with a faster response and shorter warm up times than conventional ICE loaders. XCMG delivers world’s biggest, all-electric wheel loader

XCMG delivers world’s biggest, all-electric wheel loader

XCMG celebrated the launch of its new, massive XC9260BEWL and XC9260BEWD lines by delivering one of each to Australian mining giant, Fortescue – part of a record-setting $400 million electric equipment order meant to help slash the company’s carbon emissions. Unveiled this week at a formal ceremony in Xuzhou, China, the XC9260BEWL (battery electric wheel loader) and XC9260BEWD (battery electric wheel dozer) are built to meet or exceed the performance of XCMG’s diesel-hybrid XC9260 electric drive machines (above), which offer the same 783 kW (~1050 hp) electric motor as the battery-electric versions. Extending the similarities further, that should give the BEVs the same 127,000 kg (~280,000 lbs.) payload capacity and high-production bucket capacities (ranging from 11.5 to 14.5 cubic meters, or 15–19 cubic yards) as the hybrid machines, as well. Battery specs haven’t been released, but XCMG rolled out a 15-ton battery-powered version of the XC9150 last year equipped with a 1,002 kWh (!) lithium iron phosphate battery co-developed with BYD and supporting fast DC charging. The assumption, then, is that the battery packs in …
