Chef Eric Greenspan, the seasoned L.A. restaurateur who often materializes on the food TV circuit, has debuted Mish, his modern update on the classic Jewish deli in Mid City. “I’ve always been jealous of chefs who’ve explored their own personal culinary memories as children and their own family culinary traditions,” says the James Beard Foundation finalist. “I’ve never done that in my career — until now.” Greenspan has cooked under the likes of Alain Ducasse, Ferran Adria and Joachim Splichal. Spencer Pratt, who for a brief dizzying moment went from reality-show afterthought to the potential next mayor of Los Angeles, is back to being the person from that reality show. The Associated Press late Monday afternoon officially called second place for his progressive rival Nithya Raman, after six days of the City Council member steadily gaining ground as more and more ballots were counted. A new batch of votes Monday took Raman’s lead from 3,000 when the day started to more than 21,000 at its close. With just 8 percent, or 65,0000, of ballots outstanding, Raman’s lead was deemed insurmountable, and the AP called it. Raman will now face incumbent mayor Karen Bass in a November runoff in a battle between two onetime Democratic allies who will argue over whether the city needs a steady moderate hand or a new progressive one to combat the many issues facing it. James Handy’s girlfriend has spoken out after her son was arrested in connection to the murder of the beloved Hollywood actor. Officers found Handy unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest in the front yard of a Los Angeles home Wednesday morning. The 81-year-old, known for his decades-long career as an iconic character actor, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Investigators arrested the son of Handy’s girlfriend, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, on suspicion of murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a release. Officials said he lived at the residence, located in the Tarzana neighborhood, with his mother, who has been identified by media reports as Wendy Gledhill. Wendy Gledhill told TMZ her son suffers from mental health issues, including schizophrenia, and stopped taking his medication last week. “They know I loved him so much,” she said of Handy’s family. “I’m so sorry. Spencer Pratt’s campaign for Los Angeles mayor began as a celebrity long shot. Days before Tuesday’s primary, the former MTV reality star is threatening to force incumbent Mayor Karen Bass into a November runoff. Pratt, best known for “The Hills,” is polling at 22% among likely voters in a new UC Berkeley-Los Angeles Times poll, just behind Bass at 26% and City Councilmember Nithya Raman at 25%. Pratt and Raman each gained eight percentage points since March, according to the poll. Los Angeles mayoral elections are nonpartisan.
