The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warnings for 39 areas on Wednesday as thunderstorms could sweep the UK. According to the forecaster, parts of the UK will experience thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, causing some disruption in places. The swift in the weather conditions come as the country goes through extreme weather conditions with temperature levels soaring to 34C on Monday. On Monday, the UK recorded its all-time highest May temperature as part of London reached 34.8C. “This heat would be exceptional in the UK even in mid-summer, let alone in May”, the Met Office said. The warning comes into place at 3pm today and will remain active untill 11.59pm tonight. Around 39 areas in the country are likely to be impacted by the yellow warning, as per the Met Office. The Met Office has issued weather warnings for ice in 99 regions in the UK on Wednesday, with 93 of these areas under the same 10-hour alert. Covering almost the entirety of Northern Ireland is covered by a yellow weather warning for ice which kicks off at 3am tomorrow morning, January 28 and will remain in place until 10am. The weather agency warns that ice will form overnight Tuesday and may lead to some disruption through Wednesday morning. Temperatures will plunge to below sub zero and, after the recent very wet weather, icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated surfaces. Elsewhere, spanning 10 hours another yellow weather warning for ice will start at midnight tonight. Remaining in place until 10am tomorrow the weather warning covers 93 areas in England, Wales and Scotland. The mercury will fall below freezing soon after midnight, leading to ice patches forming.
