The BMW iX3 is a range monster, but the iX5 may top 500 miles

The first electric iX5 will have a massive battery, the largest in a BMW EV yet, that could offer a range of over 500 miles on a single charge. When is BMW launching the first iX5 EV? BMW is putting the new X5, including the electric iX5, through its final calibration tests at its manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The fifth-generation X5 marks the debut of the first fully electric version, the iX5 60 xDrive. Like the new iX3, it will use BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive system with an 800V architecture. BMW said the Gen6 electric drive delivers 30% faster charging speeds and a 30% increase in driving range compared to its current system. Instead, it will be based on an updated version of its CLAR platform that underpins the current X5 to support electric and gas powertrains. BMW’s new X5 (iX5) …

BMW put the new iX3 through the paces, and it still drove 500 miles

BMW drove the new iX3 through heavy rain and snow on public roads, climbing over 6,500 feet up hills, and it still managed 500 miles without stopping to charge. BMW iX3 proves long-range capabilities in real life The German luxury automaker is taking another swing at the EV market with its Neue Klasse models now on sale. As the first Neue Klasse EV, the new iX3 is already proving to be a considerable upgrade from BMW’s current electric vehicles. Days after the iX3 50 xDrive outlasted every single EV during NAF’s Summer El Prix range test, driving 485 miles (781 km), BMW put the Long Wheelbase variant through the paces in China on public roads. Using vast underground networks, the fungi offer vegetation nutrients and water in exchange for their carbon. The fungi then siphon the carbon into the soil, supporting pretty much all life on the planet. In particularly healthy conditions, AM fungi webs can boost plant roots’ foraging area by 100 times while providing over 80 percent of its needed phosphorus. But just how much fungi is actually doing all of this heavy lifting? New analysis published today by the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN) reveals there are over 621 trillion miles of fungal pathways containing around 300 megatons of carbon within …

BYD’s Super hatch packs 65 miles EV range and will cut fuel costs

The Dolphin G DM-i is BYD’s first car specifically designed for Europe. With up to 65 miles of pure electric range and 646 miles combined, BYD said the plug-in hatch will redefine the segment as an affordable, efficient alternative. More than enough EV range for a daily commute After unveiling the Dolphin G DM-i a little over two weeks ago, BYD claimed its “game-changing Super Hybrid tech would provide over 621 miles (1,000 km) of combined range at an affordable price. While we know BYD’s plug-in hybrid system, or “DM technology,” offers plenty of combined range, we were waiting to find out exactly how far it could drive on electricity alone. BYD revealed the full details on Wednesday as its official launch nears. Powered by its Super Hybrid system, the plug-in hatch will deliver “an EV driving experience,” BYD said, with a front-mounted electric motor powering the wheels and enough range for a daily commute. Putin humiliated as mystery blast rocks region miles behind frontline | World | News

A huge explosion lit up the skies above Russia’s Belgorod region on Monday, sending a vast plume of smoke into the air and triggering reports of injuries and widespread damage. Dramatic footage shared online showed a towering cloud rising above the area as debris appeared to fall back to the ground following the blast. The exact cause remains unclear. Local reports initially suggested a Russian aerial bomb may have fallen in the area, while later accounts speculated that a Ukrainian drone strike could have hit an ammunition storage site, setting off a major detonation. Neither explanation had been independently confirmed. Regional officials described the incident as a “detonation”, while emergency services continued to assess the situation. What damage was reported at Belgorod? According to Belgorod operational staff, the blast caused damage in and around the village of Belovskoye. Officials said five women suffered concussion injuries and were taken to Belgorod City Hospital No. 2 for treatment. The force of the explosion reportedly damaged three apartment blocks, more than 20 private homes and an office building. …

Most CarPlay apps mirror the apps on your iPhone. I like driving, which is a good thing since I live in a rural area. Whether it’s work trips or traveling to some remote trailhead to get a few days away from it all (my latest obsession is section hiking Hadrian’s Wall), I spend a lot of time behind the wheel. Over the past 12 months, I’ve covered more than 25,000 miles. That’s a lot of time in the driver’s seat, and plenty of time to find the very best apps to help make whatever trip I’m on as quick, easy, and painless as possible. I traveled 2,700 miles with Sony, Apple, and Sennheiser headphones – this pair sounded the best

Jada Jones/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. It’s become my custom to bring along two pairs of the latest headphones or earbuds when I have air travel planned — one pair for my outbound flight and one for my return.   Although I can gauge a pair of headphones’ performance on trips to the grocery store or while working in my home office, there’s no more authentic testing ground than the most overstimulating place I know: Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Also: I wore 5 different headphones across 8 flights – here’s how each pair handled my stress tests (2025) This time, I traveled with some of the latest headphones released this year to test them in a new environment. I took the Apple AirPods Max 2 and Sony WF-1000XM6 from Atlanta to New York City and back, and tested the Sennheiser Momentum 5 and the Sony 1000X The Collexion from Atlanta to Las Vegas and back. In an airport and on a plane, I can better understand my experience with a pair of …
